We shotmissiles at Syria to shoot missiles. Simple as that. 1million bucks per missile and they have to be replaced.

Those Tomahawks were nearing the end of their useful life, so they had to go.

Folks make this too complicated.

That is rather simplistic view of a natural process, military or otherwise.
Everything, civilian or military has a useful shelf life. After that projected lifetime weaponry becomes dangerous, even atomic weapons are dismantled, new ones brought in for replacement.
Even grunts and dogfaces are replaced year after year.
