John W. Whitehead’s excellent article, Government Eyes Are Watching You: We Are All Prisoners of the Surveillance State, discusses what many persons believe to be the greatest, most innovative television series ever aired, The Prisoner. That is certainly my opinion (but Nowhere Man runs a very close second). For younger LRC readers (and viewers) unfamiliar with this classic series which first ran 50 years ago, here are all 17 episodes.

What have you done -- I had to watch the entire first episode, for the 1st time since 1968 and it's 2:20 AM as I write! THANKS, Bill D. -- ripping good to experience it again, and such a clear, stable rendering. Every bit as fascinating and tho't-provoking as back then. MacGoohan was a truly rare media talent.

The brilliant, unforgettable opening theme music by Ron Grainer has been fittingly recycled as that of the Political Cesspool show that we coincidentally heard from last night, too. I loved the muzak that our hero tries to put a stop to in his pad too, have been dying to hear it again all these years -- wonder what it is! Prolly original ad-hoc material.
