CBS News in LA Goes Viral as Story on ‘Assault Revolver’ Takes Over Social Media

When a story goes viral after four years, it’s probably either exceptionally heartwarming or someone done screwed up. This is not a case of the former.

A story filed by a CBS affiliate in Los Angeles back when Barack Obama was still president has managed to garner some attention after a Twitter user noticed an old story that mentioned “(a)n assault revolver with high-capacity magazines” being found at the scene of a crime.

KCAL-TV’s Aug. 22, 2014, story dealt with a tragic case involving a shooting at a San Bernardino nightclub that had left one dead and a police officer wounded.

“A 31-year-old veteran officer and a new officer trainee were in an area known for criminal activity at around 2 a.m., to ‘check on some individuals,’ said Lt. Rich Lawhead of the San Bernardino Police Department,” the story reads.

“The officers confronted a group of five people, who had just left a nightclub, in front of a home on a dead-end street and ‘almost immediately shots were fired,’ Chief Jarrod Burguan said.

“A male suspect’s gunfire wounded the senior officer, a 6-year veteran of the San Bernardino Police Department, twice in the upper body.” A horrible case, one must admit. However, sitting at the end of the story is one of the most California codas you could imagine:

Yes, “An assault revolver with high-capacity magazines and a revolver were recovered at the scene.”

We really have to put an end to assault revolvers, people. Pretty soon, they’re going to start making them with seven, eight, maybe nine rounds! Needless to say, there were plenty of Twitter responses, some of which were catalogued by Twitchy.

Of course, when you consider the kind of politician California usually has, the question may be why this doesn’t happen more often:

This, by the way, is the man challenging 85-year-old Sen. Dianne Feinstein for her seat in the United States Senate representing California. He’s also won the endorsement of the state Democrat Party.

I’m just saying.

Sadly, California isn’t that informed about firearms. You can tell that from either Mr. De Leon or the absurd concern about an “assault revolver.”

Oh, and by the way — as of this writing, they still haven’t corrected it. That mean’s it’s been seen by anyone who’s looked at the story in the four intervening years. Excellent work, KCAL.

Assault revolver? with high capacity magazines?

As Derry Brownfield would say, "Ignorance gone to seed."

I disagree. It is ignorance raised to the level of an art form, and you should stand up and recognize it as such.
