Trump Keeps Up Pressure For Dems to Concede Fla. Races

Trump sent out a tweet on Tuesday stating “When will Bill Nelson concede in Florida? The characters running Broward and Palm Beach voting will not be able to 'find' enough votes, too much spotlight on them now!”

President Donald Trump kept up his pressure for the Democrats to concede the Senate race in Florida, despite an automatic recount triggered by a close margin that is mandated by state law.

Trump sent out a tweet on Tuesday stating “When will Bill Nelson concede in Florida? The characters running Broward and Palm Beach voting will not be able to 'find' enough votes, too much spotlight on them now!”

This was the second day in a row that the president has called for the halting of the recount. On Monday he sent out a tweet that “The Florida Election should be called in favor of Rick Scott and Ron DeSantis in that large numbers of new ballots showed up out of nowhere, and many ballots are missing or forged. An honest vote count is no longer possible-ballots massively infected. Must go with Election Night!”

Florida is carrying out a recount, because state law requires a machine recount in races where the margin is less than 0.5 percentage points, and both the election for Senate and governor were within that margin. In both cases, the Republican candidates were ahead on Election Night.

Although some irregularities have been reported, experts have said that Trump’s main claims are without foundation, with University of Michigan Prof. Brendan Nyhan tweeting that “The President is making baseless accusations of fraud and calling for the vote count to be stopped while his political allies are ahead. What would you say if you saw it in another country?”
