Nielsen: 'Outrageous' That Migrants Want $50K to Go Home

(Jose Luis Magana/AP)

By Sandy Fitzgerald | Friday, 14 December 2018 10:52 AM

It's "outrageous" that migrants are demanding $50,000 each to return home if they're not allowed to enter the United States, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said Friday.

"As an American, I think that’s outrageous," Nielsen told Fox News' "Fox and Friends." "They’ve asked us to intervene in the government of Honduras, they've demanded that Americans pay them $50,000 each and they’ve demanded that we change the way in which we do immigration and how we protect our border. These are not migrants who are seeking asylum."

Earlier this week, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported that two migrant groups from Central America marched to the U.S. Consulate in Tijuana, demanding the money, that deportations be stopped and that the processing of asylum seekers be done faster.

Nielsen also shared several statistics about the immigration situation, saying that nine out of 10 illegal immigrants who are arrested already have criminal convictions or are facing pending criminal charges.

"The men and women of ICE work hard every day to secure the country despite limitations from Congress," said Nielsen. "We've seen a 10 percent increase in arrests and removals."

Another important part of the mission is stop drugs from entering the country, she said, with DHS investigators seizing nearly 900,000 pounds of narcotics being brought across the border so far this year.

She also said that the stalemate on border wall financing is a "terrible example of politics at its worst."

"Democrats have voted for the wall before," said Nielsen. "In fact they appropriated money for the wall just last year. Nothing has changed. In fact the numbers have gone up. The security risks have gone up."

Poster Comment:

The solution, of course, would be to drop helicopter money on them.

And we are forced to listen the this particular DHS Secretary who has been preceded by the likes of Tom Ridge and Michael Chertoff.

Chertoff is infamous for his "investigation" of the "terrorist attacks" on 9-11-2001.

Nielsen doesn't understand latin culture.

They demand $50k and expect a counter offer of, say, $500. Then they come down to 40k at which point the US could offer $700. Then they come down to $30k, and the US goes up to $800. Eventually, they'll agree to go for $1000 each.

But the fact that they are demanding money means they are about to give up and go home anyway. They demand money as a "just in case" the US would pay it.

When I lived in Chicago I knew this kid who had a Polish father and a Mexican mother. He had red hair and called himself a Chicano. Go figure. ;)

Many cultures enjoy the dance of "offer, counter-offer, all day long." Not so much here in US where "take it or leave it" seems to rule.

Those people need to understand that US has more than enough government pets to support without adding any more from foreign sources.

The makers are near their breaking limit of the takers to endure.

That's absolutely correct. In the US, we are not accustomed to making offers for something once it has a price on it. Our standard options are to pay it or walk away. But in a great many undeveloped and lessor developed countries, bargaining is much more the rule. But I would take their putting a price tag on a promise to depart as an indication that they are already preparing to do it. Demanding money is an effort on their part to salvage all they've invested in the journey.

Why not? It's worth a shot.

If they'd get DNA sampled with the understanding that they could never enter this country, $5K would be a reasonable deal, imo.

Sent my Dem Senator a blistering email about the failure of building the wall and the failure of our laws not being followed in regards to illegal entry.

Trump and a couple other rich patriots need to buy a news network or start one of their own and run a special on how many thousands of Americans that have lost loved ones to an illegal who was jailed and was known to be an illegal , but still released on the street in an American city - only to commit a murder , rape , robbery , molestation etc. Thousands and Thousands

Ron Paul was right in 08 Build the Wall and Increase Border Patrols or have - Gang bangers and drugs in every town , city , county in America.

Build the Wall and Enforce Our Laws - F'K Schumer , Pelosi and Paul Ryan - who is one rat SOB

Together, the U.S. and Mexico have failed to clean up the New River which flows from Mexico into Southern California. They have spent $90 million dollars in the folly and still Rio Nuevo is fouled and polluted with sewage and other toxins.

This river is too toxic to touch, and people live right next to it. The New River is filled with sewage and toxic pollution. Despite more than $90 million spent, the Mexican and U.S. governments have failed to clean it up.

If we cannot clean up this river, how can we expect to stop illegals from coming across the border and requesting asylum?

You know that in Mexico where they do not have central sewage systems, they use back houses. When you have these situations the users of these outhouses do not put toilet paper into the pit since it fills the pit faster. They put the TP in the trash and take it out and burn it. That is why Mexicans put their TP in the trash here in the U.S. since that is the way they were brought up. ;)

Why don't they dredge the river so that it flows south?

You do that and you'll have half of Central America lining up to get paid.

That is not possible. The headwaters of the New River are a volcanic crater about 18 miles SSE of Mexicali. The Rio Nuevo flows northward in an old channel which dates back to prehistoric times. The Salton Sea is a low point similar to the Dead Sea in the Middle East. ;)

It is a sad fact that so much cash has been spent trying to improve the water quality of that river in Mexico.

Fecal coliform bacteria is up to 400 times greater than acceptable levels. Maybe the Mexicans should put some money into central sewage treatment plants. Then the Mexicans will not have to shit on the river banks. ;)
