Awful news for farmers who were storing soybeans, but wonderful news for all those who will be able to get into their fields in May and plant this year's crop of corn and beans.

No one works harder, with less guarantee of income, than the American farmer.

When we lived in Chicago we would drive out to Wheeling. There was a tomato farm near Wolf Rd and Palatine Rd. There were small shacks out back where the migrant workers would stay during harvest season.

The old man was such a cheapskate he would not give us a key to the trunk. When we had finished picking tomatoes they asked to look in the trunk. We told them we did not have a key. And the thought we were stealing tomatoes.

He was also a piker and bought retread tires to save money. One time we were out and the retread came apart. Luckily at the time we had gotten a key for the trunk so we could get to the jack and spare or we would have had to call a service truck. ;)
