A New Orleans man was arrested after allegedly trying to extort Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu for more than $1 million, according to a report.

WDSU reported that it obtained a federal affidavit in which Geourvon Sears is accused of asking Mathieu for “$1.5 million deposited into his account” while threatening to provide the media with allegations of sexual misconduct.

According to WDSU, Sears allegedly texted Mathieu with the message: “$5 million by Friday, I’m done talking, emailing TMZ now.”

WDSU reports that court documents also allege Sears told some of Mathieu’s relatives: “I want $1.5 million by Friday or I am going to kill all you all.”

The victim in the affidavit is identified only as TM, but WDSU reports that Sears’ attorney confirmed that Mathieu is the victim.

Sears is a distant relative of Mathieu’s, and Mathieu’s agent Denise White told WDSU that the matter is a "very private and personal family issue."

"He's dealing with a family member who is dealing with a mental health issue," White told WDSU. "Tyrann is fine. His family is fine. They are getting through."

Mathieu is a New Orleans native and played high school football at St. Augustine High. He starred at nearby LSU and was drafted in the third round of the 2013 NFL draft by the Arizona Cardinals. He played in Arizona for five seasons, before he signed with the Texans last March. Then, this offseason, he signed with the Chiefs on a three-year, $42 million deal.

Mathieu was selected to the Pro Bowl and the all-pro team in 2015.
