American have an average of $6,506 in credit card debt, according to a new Experian report out this week. But which expenses are adding to that balance the most?

A full 23% of Americans say that paying for basic necessities such as rent, utilities and food contributes the most to their credit card debt, according to a new survey of approximately 2,200 U.S. adults that CNBC Make It performed in conjunction with Morning Consult. Another 12% say medical bills are the biggest portion of their debt.

Poster Comment:

Might I suggest this is due to over population by design through legal and illegal immigration.

The population of Mexico in 1950 was 28 million. Today there are 34 million Mexican Americans and 132 million people in Mexico. Solving the over population problems of Latin America, Africa, the Mideast and Asia is way beyond our ability.

The "be fruitful and multiply" admonishion has long passed its use-by date.

PS: people are NOT going into debt to pay for food, they are in debt because they bought too much other stuff that they couldn't afford.

The credit cards enabled their general stupidity.

Look at that article I just posted on gov lying to us about the cost of food.

Remember the $1.25 minimum wage? Paid 5 silver quarters for working an hour. That is one ounce of 90% silver. Silver is $14.50 an ounce today so the minimum wage should be 90% of that or $13.05 an hour. Wages are not keeping up due to legal and illegal immigration and all those anchor babies.

Hueys = Jobs!

Those villagers aren't going to fire incendiary rockets at themselves.

It wasn't just Hueys.

Armalite made a fortune supplying the Army with M-16s and the ammo that went with them. ;)

How many families could live in the cockpit of an F-18 Hornet?

$1.25 was a 25% increase from the $1/hour that I remember in the early-sixties.

It's all about the devalued dollar, and who who does what job for the minimum wage today?

I have no idea since that fighter only has one pilot. ;)

Congress should investigate this!

THIS^

Can people imagine what housing, energy, food and taxes would be like if we had never opened the floodgates of immigration?

Everyone who was an adult in this country would own their own home if they wanted one.
