Heartbreaking. My Dad would've been 97, WWII Pacific Theater, Philippines, but he died in 1976 fighting the Cold War, pushing around a desk at a defense contractor, now Raytheon. Dad never talked much about his experiences in the Philippines. Dad never talked much.

I used to hold the flashlight, and became a man.

Seeing this made my heart hurt. Seeing this Marine cry, that cannot go unanswered.

I guess the Army vets will have to be heroes.

Hold the light on the work, son -- not in my eyes!

I heard that a few times.

I cried like a baby seeing that. He didn't have tears at 100, I've sure got a lot in my 60s, 100 proof.

Canada may run out of whiskey.

I knew an old boy in Chicago who was a Master Plumber. He was also a Navy veteran in WW II.

He was in UDT and stationed in the south Pacific. He got drunk on Vanilla Extract once and would never eat Vanilla ice cream.

He is dead for quite a while now. :-/

Interestingly, he never says what they DID die for.

I am under the impression that in WW2 the US armed forces were never told they were fighting to make Europe -- and later the whole world -- safe for Jewish communism.

In Asia, the Japs were barbaric murderers. But would they have murdered as many Chinese as Mao eventually did -- 40+ million?

Minus another 200 points?

Plus 800, just for symmetry.

He didn't die, that's what's so tragic. I have a soft spot in my heart for Marines after that Beirut wing ding in '83.
