The hauntingly beautiful first movement of Ravel's great Piano Trio, based on the Basque zortziko dance form (Ravel's mother was Basque). This composition was used to great effect in Claude Sautet's 1992 film Un coeur en hiver during the climactic "lovers' farewell" scene between Daniel Auteuil and Émmanuelle Béart (who in fact were lovers off-screen at the time, having a daughter together before they too in real life -alas!- split up... )
