OK, it's working now. I hate to jump to conclusions on things as I know often problems I perceive as being caused from elsewhere turn up to be explainible, but that is the verbiage I got twice in a pitch black box before I got it to work finally.
There is a little program called Keep Vid that you can use to download you tube (and other) videos in an flv format. Pretty simple program and you can use it to save stuff that you know is destined for the memory hole.

You're welcome. I save mostly music videos because it seems you tube deletes them a lot. They must have deleted half the ones I had "saved" to my favorites or to a list. Or thought I had saved them. The only way you can be sure is to get some kind of program that lets you download them yourself.
