Has anyone else driven down a street that is basically two-way, but curbside parking restricts flow temporarily to one-way? That is the subject of tonights rant. After breaking up snowpack on my driveway this afternoon I decided to take the car for a little spin to shake off what I'd gone all lazy about getting with the broom. Anyway, after getting about .002 on the odometer I noticed a vehicle headed north on my street, and using the differential calculus eyeset I was born with determined they were moving. As there were cars on both sides of the street I decided to pull aside and let them pass, as even with a hearty flogging of the accelerator I's only managaed to fishtail back and forth up to a speed of about 15. It took a FULL minute for this idiot to realise I was giving right-of-way, and after that the stupid fucker turned toward me and put on turn-signal, so I had to gun the mustang through an opening with 8 inches on either side of me or we'd have been stuck there all night.

I should clarify. The stupid horse-ass in the SUV knew they wanted to turn into their driveway yet did everything possible to prevent me from just passing on by.
I might have went all Stockholm for a split second.

See, not everyone is blessed with this ability. Spatial relationship tests are not given at the Dept of Motor Vehicles;
LOL, It's usually thugs trying this crap, and I feel bad when I freak out honest citizens, I really do, but it's important we get the word out for people to pull aside and let the better drivers through, it will end up saving the dolts a few minutes and lives too, in the long run.

well, if I lived somewhere where there was snow, I'd be one of those bad drivers. actually, I wouldn't because I'd be home, probably hiding under the bed. i can't stand snow and I'm horrified at the idea of driving in it. if there's a hell and I go there, it'll be snowing every day and I'll be a courier.
but I'm sorry for your experience. my pet peeve is people talking on the phone while they drive, because they seem to drift all over the road, no doubt reacting to the conversation. I think if you're driving you ought to be thinking about driving and paying attention to your surroundings.
I remember going on vacation as a little kid, probably about 1970, to St Louis, MO of all places. I remember driving mile after mile watching the synchronized stoplights change, that was a minor revelation. I was only able to repeat the experience in my hometown at 4:00 am with constant brake and accelerator input.

Blocking his way? Where do you get that? Don't you know that the few posters here I've met in person will swear up and down I'm the best wheelman in the business?

I guess I didn't explain fully. Road ettiquette around here says if one person pulls behind a car, you should come on around, not just sit there and gun it when person A pulls from behind exhibit one.

You know, I think the timing on the lights around here has apparently been set up by sadistic lunatics.
I'm originally from Kokomo, those people are like the Albert Speer of stoplights.

In San Diego they put in left turn green arrows at every major intersection, making every red light at least 3 minutes. I'm of the opinion no one in San Diego can make a left turn w/o a green arrow.

Another thing - on some lights the turn signal goes first, on others they go last. Once I thought there was some reason for it, but if the light-to-light timing is as bad as it seems, I have no idea what the reason is other than to make it worse. Of course it's the ones I would sail through that I once would hardly remember. But, it can't be 50-50, no way. Now I almost celebrate them.

Further complicated by some intersections with traffic sensors. We have cameras at a few. I noticed a few drivers appear very hesitant at intersections with cameras. I wonder if there are more traffic accidents b/c of the cameras.

Sounds like roundabouts are needed, so no one can ever go over 25 mph.

who would go around blocks in order to avoid making a left turn against traffic
I do that too, if I can. Unless there's a left turn light. What I fiercely avoid is having to make a left turn across three lanes of traffic from a gas station when I could have just as easily bought gas from the station on the right just past the light.
