A special meeting about Dallas County traffic tickets turned tense and bizarre this afternoon. County commissioners were discussing problems with the central collections office that is used to process traffic ticket payments and handle other paperwork normally done by the JP Courts. Commissioner Kenneth Mayfield, who is white, said it seemed that central collections "has become a black hole" because paperwork reportedly has become lost in the office. Commissioner John Wiley Price, who is black, interrupted him with a loud "Excuse me!" He then corrected his colleague, saying the office has become a "white hole." That prompted Judge Thomas Jones, who is black, to demand an apology from Mayfield for his racially insensitive analogy. Mayfield shot back that it was a figure of speech and a science term. A black hole, according to Webster's, is perhaps "the invisible remains of a collapsed star, with an intense gravitational field from which neither light nor matter can escape." Other county officials quickly interceded to break it up and get the meeting back on track. TV news cameras were rolling, after all.

In fairness to the judge, knowledge of black holes is forbidden in law school curricula.
The topic of racial variation is admittedly disturbing, and in an ideal world might be passed over in silence, but accusations against whites have made such discretion impossible. The right of the accused to present his case includes the right to raise issues that distress his accuser. A plaintiff demanding damages for a broken leg cannot ask at the same time that his leg not be talked about, nor take offense when the defendant presents evidence that the injury was congenital. By claiming harm he opens up the question of why his leg is game. Claiming racial harm has opened the topic of racial differences.
To hell with Dallas, it's North Texas' version of Houston.

Too much. Lessee, another word that should be banned - "sniggers" which was my reaction to this surreal absurdity. Swarthy Hole, anyone?

That's an insult to Americans. We now prolly have the thinnest skins in the world. In Eastern MA, we've had a bunch of teeth gnashing and caterwauling by the earnest, chin nodding set at the temerity of the "horribles" parade in certain towns to poke! fun at the pregnancy outburst in Gloucester MA.

The reason that a lot of minorities in positions of power are so vindictive is that deep down inside, they realize they wouldn't be anywhere near where they are if it weren't for affirmative action. That makes them insecure, so they lash out at everyone who reminds them of this uncomfortable fact.
Isn't that already the word used for housing projects? Good idea, though. The next reprint of Hawking's book could be A Brief History of Time: from the Big Bang to African-American Abysses, edited for political content by Rev. Jesse Jackson, with an introduction by Rev. Al Sharpton.
