America's Private Militias of the Nineteenth Century Post Date: 2020-09-01 09:37:04 by Ada

Since at least as early as the mid-1990s, the term militia has been increasingly used by journalists and scholars on the left in connection with alleged right-wing extremists.1 Over time, the term militia has been used to describe nearly any group of nonleftist armed men, and has been generally used in close connection with terms like extremism, violence, and vigilante. We have been reminded of this in recent years during riots in places like Ferguson, Missouri (in 2014), and Kenosha, Wisconsin (in 2020). In both cases, armed volunteers attempted to assist private sector business owners with protecting their property ...

The History Guy: History Deserves to Be Remembered In December 1944, a US submarine stumbled upon a Japanese heavy cruiser. The brief battle resulted in epic journeys for both. The History Guy recalls an event where the story was as much in what happened after the battle as it was in the battle itself. This is original content based on research by The History Guy. Images in the Public Domain are carefully selected and provide illustration. As very few images of the actual event are available in the Public Domain, images of similar objects and events are used for illustration.
Roosevelt’s Fraud at Yalta and the Mirage of the “Good War” Post Date: 2020-08-26 09:40:11 by Ada

This year is the 75th anniversary of the end of World War Two. One of the biggest frauds of the final stage of that war was the meeting at Yalta of Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, and President Franklin Roosevelt. Yalta has become a synonym for the abandonment of oppressed people and helped inspire the 1952 Republican campaign theme, 20 years of treason. The American media uncorked a barrage of tributes to Roosevelt on the 75th anniversary of his death in April. CNN, for instance, trumpeted Roosevelt as the wartime president who Trump should learn from. But there was scant coverage of one of his greatest betrayals. ...

Washington Should Remember the Past and Avoid a World War I Redux Post Date: 2020-08-26 08:23:39 by Ada

Attempting to apply historical lessons to current events typically is problematic. Circumstances change dramatically; almost any moment in time in 1914 looks radically different from any one in 2020. The rise of a dictator and onset of a war may be examples of dangerous trends to be avoided, but rarely are similar enough to current events to predict a repeat performance. Yet the onset of World War I begs for serious remembrance and even more assiduous avoidance. The conflict was a dramatic historical hinge point which radically transformed the world and set the stage for another, even worse global conflagration a generation later, followed by decades more chaos and conflict. A century ...

Two prisoner exchanges took place between the 94th Division and the Germans in the isolated pockets. Mr. Andrew Hodges the American Red Cross representative assigned to the 302nd Infantry was the chief coordinator for the exchanges. On November 17, 1944, he arranged an ease fire between the Americans and the Germans in order to negotiate a prisoner exchange in the Lorient sector. After close inspection, the Germans accepted 71 men for exchange. Most of the men were from the ill-fated patrol from the 301st Infantry, with some prisoners from the 6th Armored and 83rd Infantry divisions. A second prisoner exchange was arranged on November 29th in the St Nazaire sector, fifty-three servicemen ...

Himmler's INSANE Reason for Recruiting non-Germans in the Waffen-SS Post Date: 2020-08-15 19:16:48 by BTP Holdings

My Patron - So long, John - is concerned that some people online are claiming that the Nazis were just racially conscious" rather than full-on racist. These people argue that the Waffen-SS recruited non- Germans, which supposedly "proves" how "diverse" and "inclusive" the German Army was in WW2. Clearly, that view is total rubbish, as this video will make clear. And, in the process of answering this question, we'll discover just how INSANE Heinrich Himmler and Nazi ideology really were.
The Chetniks of WW2 Yugoslavia - Resistance or Axis Collaborators? Post Date: 2020-08-15 18:50:29 by BTP Holdings

Were the Chetniks Axis collaborators? Or did they resist the Axis during WW2? Time to explore this debate by exploring the situation in Yugoslavia during the war, and examining the Yugoslavian resistance, with a focus on Mihailovi's Chetniks. We can compare them to other Chetnik movements as well as to Tito's Communist 'Partisans' and see if we can figure out what the historical truth really is. The REAL Reason why Hitler HAD to start WW2 Post Date: 2020-08-14 13:05:46 by BTP Holdings

The traditional explanation as to why Hitler had to start WW2 misses out one crucial element of Hitler's reasoning. In this video, not only are we going to spell out exactly what Hitler's reasoning is, but show why certain events - like the Autarky policy, the oil crisis and the Holocaust - were the consequence of that reasoning. This video is discussing events or concepts that are academic, educational and historical in nature. This video is for informational purposes and was created so that we may better understand the past and learn from the mistakes others have made. UPDATE: this video has been brigaded by Nazis and inter-Nazis who are downvoting and spouting propaganda in ...

Johann Sebastian Bach, Pipesmoker Post Date: 2020-08-12 17:06:09 by X-15

With the most recognizable name in baroque-era classical music, or perhaps music in general, Johann Sebastian Bach was indeed defined by his art. In 1705, when he was 20 years old, he walked 280 miles to attend a concert by the famous composer and organist, Dieterich Buxtehude. Bach stayed on for four months afterward to study with Buxtehude, hoping to succeed him as organist of Lübeck's St. Mary's Church, but upon learning that a requirement for that position was marriage to one of Buxtehude's daughters, Bach walked the 280 miles home instead. He would eventually marry and have 20 children with two wives, losing 12 in infancy. Three of his surviving children would become ...
