Russian President Vladimir Putin pledged to protect Christians threatened by the conflict in Syria, appealing to the plight of religious minorities as justification for Russia's involvement. After a meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Wednesday, Putin expressed sorrow over the persecution experienced by Christians in the Middle East, according to the Associated Press. Russian leaders have worked to develop close ties with Syria's Christian communities. Melkite Catholic Archbishop Jean-Clement Jeanbart has called Russia's intervention in the country a source of "hope for the country's Christians. "The Middle East is the cradle of Christianity, ...

More than 100,000 people have died as a result of the war in Yemen, according to an explosive new report by an American NGO. Based on data collected from a variety of sources, including the United Nations, the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data project (ACLED) said the death toll from the four-year-long war was considerably higher than most previous estimates. Out of the over 100,000 people estimated to have been killed since a Saudi-led coalition intervened in Yemen's war in 2015 against the Houthi movement, at least 12,000 civilians were killed in direct attacks, the ACLED said. Already, 2019 has so far been the second deadliest year of the conflict, with more than 20,000 ...

JOHN KIRIAKOU: About Trump Wanting Iraq’s Oil Fields

What the president advocated was one of the most telling statements of his presidency. It amounted to an admission that he is perfectly willing to commit a war crime. President Donald Trump on Sunday held a highly unusual press conference to announce the successful special forces operation the night before that resulted in the death of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. When Trump read his prepared statement and did not walk away from the podium, my first thought was, “Oh, boy. How much classified information is he going to release now?” My own informed opinion is that he released a lot, talking about who did the raid, how they did it, where they launched from, what other ...

Killing Julian Assange: Justice Denied When Exposing Official Wrongdoing

The hideous treatment of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange continues and many observers are citing his case as being symptomatic of developing “police state” tendencies in both the United States and in Europe, where rule of law is being subordinated to political expediency. Julian Assange was the founder and editor-in-chief of the controversial news and information site WikiLeaks. As the name implies, after 2006 the site became famous, or perhaps notorious, for its publication of materials that have been leaked to it by government officials and other sources who consider the information to be of value to the public but unlikely to be accepted by the mainstream media, which has ...

he men were jolted awake again sometime after midnight. The main gate to the clinic, which was next to the guard’s room, had been blown in, and the staff heard hurried footsteps in the ruined entryway. The intruders ran past the guard’s room and into the clinic’s main building. The clinic staff huddled in the darkened room as several doors were kicked in across the compound yard. After what one of the clinic workers described as five or six minutes, the staffers, worried that they’d surprise the intruders when they eventually reached the guard’s room, called out, “We’re in here!”

Update (7 am ET): In his campaign launch speech, Nigel Farage came out the gate storming, saying there has been a 'breakdown of trust and faith', and pointing to the fact that Johnson failed to keep his promise to get the UK out of the EU by Oct. 31 However, instead of turning his back on Johnson and risk splitting the vote, Farage revealed that the Brexit Party will focus on Labour-held seats in districts that voted to leave during the referendum, as expected. With recent polls showing Conservatives with 40% of support, it still looks like the Tories set to win a large plurality in December. Later, Farage added that he would be willing to compromise his position and form a ...

Alternative media circles have been buzzing for the last two days ever since news broke about the arrest of Grayzone journalist Max Blumenthal, who was reportedly jailed for two days after a SWAT-style police team showed up threatening to break his door down last Friday. Blumenthal is charged with simple assault alleged to have taken place five months ago during the notorious standoff when the US government was working to remove the official Venezuelan government from its DC embassy and replace it with diplomats from the Guaido-led puppet government it was attempting to force into power. Dissident journalists, including Blumenthal, stationed themselves in the embassy in opposition to the ...

Fighting continues to center on town of Ras al-Ayn In a potentially huge complication for the Turkey-Russia ceasefire, Turkey has gotten into combat with Syrian troops in northern Syria, as fighting around Ras al-Ayn, a town in north Syria, turns deadly. An exchange of Syrian and Turkish gunfire has left at least 6 Syrian soldiers dead, and 18 others were reportedly captured alive. Turkey reported they are coordinating this matter with Russia. Capturing Syrian troops in a Syrian town, inside Syria, during an illegal invasion is going to be a difficult situation for Turkey to deal with, and while Russia likely wants to prevent the situation from escalating they’re also an ally of ...

To review, a Russian 'troll farm' spent approximately $100,000 on Facebook ads (the majority of which were bought after the 2016 US election) and operated on other social media platforms with the goal of 'sowing discord' via hyperbolic posts on immigration, black identity politics and Jesus arm wrestling Satan in the name of Donald Trump. Rob Goldman ✔ @robjective · Replying to @robjective Most of the coverage of Russian meddling involves their attempt to effect the outcome of the 2016 US election. I have seen all of the Russian ads and I can say very definitively that swaying the election was *NOT* the main goal. Rob Goldman ✔ @robjective The ...

Journalist Max Blumenthal Arrested, Hit With Political Prosecution Related To Venezuela Reporting

Journalist Max Blumenthal was arrested on October 25 and charged with “assault” in a political case that he says is “completely false” and “manufactured” by Venezuela opposition supporters. From April to May, supporters of Juan Guaido’s attempted coup in Venezuela surrounded the Venezuela embassy in Washington, D.C. They engaged in verbal and physical assaults that authorities largely permitted. Blumenthal, the editor of The Grayzone, reported on antiwar and international solidarity activists, who attempted to protect the embassy from the right-wing opposition. According to Grayzone reporter Ben Norton, “A team of D.C. police officers appeared at ...

Top Linux developer on Intel chip security problems: 'They're not going away.'

Greg Kroah-Hartman, the stable Linux kernel maintainer, could have prefaced his Open Source Summit Europe keynote speech, MDS, Fallout, Zombieland, and Linux, by paraphrasing Winston Churchill: I have nothing to offer but blood sweat and tears for dealing with Intel CPU's security problems. Or as a Chinese developer told him recently about these problems: "This is a sad talk." The sadness is that the same Intel CPU speculative execution problems, which led to Meltdown and Spectre security issues, are alive and well and causing more trouble. The problem with how Intel designed speculative execution is that, while anticipating the next action for the CPU to take does indeed ...

“Only those who do not wish to see can be deceived.” ~ Dianna Hardy, Saving Eve It has been said that hidden truths are unspoken lies. There are plenty of lies in the mainstream news today, whether it is related to politics and politicians, to important events, to war, to economic trickery and deceit, and on and on, but what about the truths that are hidden from view? These are lies as well, but these lies hold dark secrets, as lies of omission are the most sinister of all. In the distant past, fooling the general population was a more difficult task. People for the most part were more skeptical than today, and could not be bombarded with lies and trickery via a controlling ...
