How Inuit Parents Teach Kids To Control Their Anger Post Date: 2019-03-14 21:23:27 by Horse

Back in the 1960s, a Harvard graduate student made a landmark discovery about the nature of human anger. At age 34, Jean Briggs traveled above the Arctic Circle and lived out on the tundra for 17 months. There were no roads, no heating systems, no grocery stores. Winter temperatures could easily dip below minus 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Briggs persuaded an Inuit family to "adopt" her and "try to keep her alive," as the anthropologist wrote in 1970. This story is part of a series from NPR's Science desk called The Other Side of Anger. There's no question we are in angry times. It's in our politics, our schools and homes. Anger can be a destructive emotion, but ...

Investigators from Spain's National Intelligence Center (CNI) and the Spanish police have linked a February 22 attack on the North Korean embassy in Madrid to the CIA, according to El Pais. On February 22 at approximately 3pm, 10 masked men carrying fake weapons broke into the embassy, tied up eight people, put bags over their heads, and proceeded to beat and interrogate them for two hours. One woman was able to escape through a second-floor window, and police were called after a neighbor heard her screaming. When officers arrived at the embassy, a man opened the door and told them that nothing was going on. "Minutes later, two luxury vehicles sped out of the embassy," ...
The ICC Intends to Violate the Decision of the Security Council and try Bachar el-Assad Post Date: 2019-03-14 09:27:07 by Ada

Everyone believed it to be impossible for the International Criminal Court (ICC) to try the Syrians, since China and Russia exercised their vetos against a Western draft resolution to do so. But no! A piece of legal sleight of hand may make it possible to dodge the decision of the Security Council. The Court hopes to incriminate President Bachar el-Assad, not for the murder of Rafic Hariri (that lie fizzled out some time ago), but for « crimes against humanity ». In 1998, the United Nations convened the Conference of Rome, which created the International Criminal Court (ICC). Of course, the aim was not to to create a super-Tribunal which would legislate, on behalf of the ...

Did the US Cause the Blackout in Venezuela? Post Date: 2019-03-14 08:18:08 by Ada

As all U.S. diplomats were ordered home from Venezuela, about 70% of Venezuelans have been without electricity and water since last Thursday evening. As of Monday the blackout had killed 21 people (including 6 babies), according to opposition leaders . Reuters reported that according to witnesses and social media, some of the country had power restored on Tuesday. That would be welcome news, as many hospitals have not had power in five days. Cell phone coverage and internet access have been in very short supply. Schools and businesses have been largely closed. Tons of food has spoiled, the economy is at a virtual standstill, and more people are becoming desperately hungry due to the ...

US Regime Change Blueprint Proposed Venezuelan Electricity Blackouts as ‘Watershed Event’ for ‘Galvanizing Public Unrest’ Post Date: 2019-03-13 20:01:44 by Ada

A September 2010 memo by a US-funded soft power organization that helped train Venezuelan coup leader Juan Guaido and his allies identifies the potential collapse of the countrys electrical sector as a watershed event that would likely have the impact of galvanizing public unrest in a way that no opposition group could ever hope to generate. The memo has special relevance today as Guaido moves to exploit nationwide blackouts caused by a major failure at the Simon Bolivar Hydroelectric Plant at Guri dam a crisis that Venezuelas government blames on US sabotage. It was authored by Srdja Popovic of the Center for Applied Non-Violent Action and ...

China Moving in to Help Venezuela After US Cut Their Power Post Date: 2019-03-13 09:31:21 by Ada

US sanctions have successfully managed to literally cut the power from Venezuela by hacking their grid. Obviously, this is a brownish country which should have planned ahead a little bit better (digitalizing your infrastructure is completely insane), but they made decisions based on their poverty situation (digital infrastructure is much cheaper). And shutting down peoples power because you hate their leader is a nasty thing to do. It is a form of open warfare. These people have been reduced to drinking sewer water because of the shutdown of electricity. Now, the Chinese are moving in to help. RT: China says it is ready to help Venezuela to restore its power grid. The South ...
Boeing 737 Max 8 pilots complained to feds for months about suspected safety flaw Post Date: 2019-03-12 19:48:12 by Ada

Pilots repeatedly voiced safety concerns about the Boeing 737 Max 8 to federal authorities, with one captain calling the flight manual "inadequate and almost criminally insufficient" several months before Sunday's Ethiopian Air crash that killed 157 people, an investigation by The Dallas Morning News found. The News found at least five complaints about the Boeing model in a federal database where pilots can voluntarily report about aviation incidents without fear of repercussions. The complaints are about the safety mechanism cited in preliminary reports about an October plane crash in Indonesia that killed 189. The disclosures found by The News reference problems during ...
An Oxford researcher says there are seven moral rules that unite humanity Post Date: 2019-03-12 04:36:15 by Horse

In 2012, Oliver Scott Curry was an anthropology lecturer at the University of Oxford. One day, he organized a debate among his students about whether morality was innate or acquired. One side argued passionately that morality was the same everywhere; the other, that morals were different everywhere. I realized that, obviously, no one really knew, and so decided to find out for myself, Curry says. Seven years later, Curry, now a senior researcher at Oxfords Institute for Cognitive and Evolutionary Anthropology, can offer up an answer to the seemingly ginormous question of what morality is and how it doesor doesntvary around the world. Morality, he says, ...

Tens of Syrian kids have died as a result of deteriorating conditions of al-Hawl Camp run by the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the London-based Syrian Observatory of Human Rights (SOHR) reported. "At least 90 children have lost their lives due to the lack of facilities and hygiene in al-Hawl Camp," the SOHR said while noting that there are 63,500 refugees settled in al-Hawl Camp. It noted that five adult refugees of al-Hawl Camp have also been killed under SDF's torture. Meantime, pro-militant Baladi news website confirmed death of five refugees under SDF tortures. This comes as a new wave of popular protests have intensified over the lack of facilities in the ...

A sinister plan involving the worlds most notorious oligarchs, as well as the IMF and key elements of the global Zionist lobby, lurks beneath the de facto independent state created by one of Englands richest men in the heart of Argentinas Patagonia. EL BOLSÓN, ARGENTINA At the end of the world, spanning the southernmost regions of Argentina and Chile, lies the land of Patagonia, much of which remains a pristine wilderness that has inspired countless naturalists and would-be adventurers with its dramatic landscapes and natural beauty. For many, it is a place that still feels remarkably untouched and removed from the chaos of the modern world. ...
U.S. "Gets Its Ass Handed To It" In World War III Simulation: RAND Post Date: 2019-03-11 09:08:33 by Horse

In simulated World War III scenarios, the U.S. continues to lose against Russia and China, two top war planners warned last week. In our games, when we fight Russia and China, blue gets its ass handed to it" RAND analyst David Ochmanek said Thursday. RAND's wargames show how US Armed Forces - colored blue on wargame maps - experience the most substantial losses in one scenario after another and still can't thwart Russia or China - which predictably is red - from accomplishing their objectives: annihilating Western forces. "We lose a lot of people. We lose a lot of equipment. We usually fail to achieve our objective of preventing aggression by the adversary," ...

The U.S. paid fifty million francs ($11,250,000) and a cancellation of debts worth eighteen million francs ($3,750,000) for a total of sixty-eight million francs ($15 million, equivalent to about $600 billion given the GDP of 2017[1]). The Louisiana territory included land from fifteen present U.S. states and two Canadian provinces. The territory contained land that forms Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska; the portion of Minnesota ...

Macron Calls for “European Renaissance” in Controversial Alt-Right Pivot Post Date: 2019-03-10 08:43:02 by Ada

If there is one thing I like about French President Emmanuel Macron, it is his voluntarism. While his presidency necessarily embodies the incoherence and indecision of both the French people and oligarchy hence the current suboptimal political equilibrium, recognized by all to be highly unsatisfying Macron as a young globalist evidently has a rare passion and will in promoting his grand designs. Macron recently wrote an op-ed, translated in the various Europeans and published in newspapers across the continent, making his case for a reformed European Union. The text is interesting for the practical proposals, the implausible promises, and the persuasive arguments against a ...

I havent been covering the whole Brexit debacle, because it is worse than the Russia hacking hoax and I fear that reading about it will make readers dumber. But this was certainly something. RT: Prime Minister Theresa May has ostensibly delivered an ultimatum to euroskeptic MPs, claiming that if they reject her Brexit deal on Tuesday, then they run the risk of the UK never leaving the European Union. May issued the warning in a key Brexit speech in the Leave-voting east coast English town of Grimsby, with just days to go before UK politicians vote on her deal for a second time, which was comprehensively rejected by a margin of 230 in January. The prime minister ...
