The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) says it has "no credible" evidence Iran was working on developing a nuclear "explosive device" after 2009 and that the UN's nuclear watchdog considered the issue "closed" after it was presented in a report in December 2015. The 2015 report "stated that the agency had no credible indications of activities in Iran relevant to the development of a nuclear explosive device after 2009. Based on the director-general's report, the board of governors declared that its consideration of this issue was closed," the IAEA said in a statement on May 1. "In line with standard IAEA practice, the IAEA ...
Russia’s S-400 Air-Defense System Proves to Be Red Rag for the US Bull Post Date: 2018-05-01 09:20:13 by Ada

Turkey has been under a lot of pressure recently to reconsider its decision to purchase Russias state-of-the-art S-400 Triumf air-defense systems rather than the weapons offered by NATO allies, notably the US Patriot PAC-3. American officials are threatening Turkey with sanctions. The S-400 deal with Russia has been finalized, and Ankara shows no sign that its having second thoughts. Anyway, a potential purchase of the US system would not preclude the deal with Russia, for the simple reason that the PAC-3 is not an alternative to the Triumf. Some countries, like Poland, buy it for political reasons, but that system is no match for the S-400 from the standpoint of its ...

The nuclear agreement with Iran is worth preserving The analysis of the recent exchanges between French President Emmanuel Macron and President Donald Trump suggest that Washington is most likely about to withdraw from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) nuclear agreement with Iran that was signed by the U.S. and five other governments in July 2015. The decision will likely be made public before the deadline on re-ratifying the agreement, which is May 12th. As one informed observer has noted, a train wreck is probably coming, with very damaging consequences that are hard to predict. Macron was polite, both in his meeting with Trump and during his speech before ...

When U.S. troops were ambushed in Niger last October, the widespread reaction was surprise: The U.S. has military forces in Niger? What are they doing there? Pentagon Cites Multiple Missteps That Led To Ambush Of U.S. Troops In Niger THE TWO-WAY Pentagon Cites Multiple Missteps That Led To Ambush Of U.S. Troops In Niger Yet in many ways, the Niger operation typifies U.S. military missions underway in roughly 20 African countries, mostly in the northern half of the continent. The missions tend to be small, they are carried out largely below the radar, and most are focused on a specific aim: rolling back Islamist extremism. In almost all of the missions, the Americans are there to advise, ...

A New Type Of Poverty Is Crushing The Middle Class (Income after Payments and Taxes) Post Date: 2018-04-30 07:12:58 by Horse

As if the current global monetary system didnt put the middle-class at a structural disadvantage versus the wealthy, by taxing them disproportionately with inflation, encouraging dissaving and taxing labor (ordinary income) much higher than capital (long-term gains), we now find out that the middle class has a new reason they're being pushed into poverty: banks are willingly trying to put them there. In a report by the Sydney Morning Herald, the newspaper notes that more middle- class Australians are being pushed into poverty. The simple explanation why this is happening: Australian banks are trying to figure out exactly how much they can charge customers before pushing them into ...

But during Kims historic meeting with South Korean President Moon Jae-in over the weekend, the North Korean leader made a significant promise he says is contingent on a pledge from the U.S. According to officials of the South Korean government, Kim said he would be willing to give up his nuclear weapons if the U.S. commits to a formal end to the Korean War and a pledge ...

How does one store a million tons of radiated water forever? Theres a building boom going on at the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan where on March 11, 2011, as the coast was catastrophically flooded by an earthquake-triggered tsunami, three of the six reactors melted down. But its not the kind that signals progress. Tepco, which owns the site, has built hundreds of massive storage tanks to hold the radioactive water that is leaking from the disaster. According to a report by Vince Beiser at Wired, the tanks contain as much as 150 tons of groundwater that percolates into the reactors through cracks in their foundations every day. The water is contaminated ...

Two reasons: complexity, and too much money We first published this article in November of 2015, and are re-running it now in light of the dramatic advances Russia has recently made in weapons tech, rapidly outpacing the US. A lot of the problems the author identifies here explain why the US is falling behind. The F-35: Insanely expensive, its costs keep soaring - and it's worse than Russian planes which cost 20 times less In this fascinating analysis, our contributor explains why the US military is in serious trouble, unable to compete with Russia, and unlikely to change going forward. He has experience in the military, civil service, Congress, and the lobbying and contracting ...

Ignore, deny, downplay: Accounts of Syrians from Douma have no place in Western narrative Post Date: 2018-04-29 08:40:25 by Ada

Whatever the Douma residents, who had first-hand experience of the shooting of the water dousing after chemical attack video, have to say, their words simply dont fit into the narrative allowed in the West, analysts told RT. Footage of screaming bewildered civilians and children being doused with water, presumably to decontaminate them, was a key part in convincing Western audiences that a chemical attack happened in Douma. Russia brought the people seen in the video to Brussels, where they told anyone interested in listening that the scene was staged. Their testimonies, however, were swiftly branded as "bizarre and underwhelming" and even an obscene ...

With the still largely ignored Saudi slaughter in Yemen now in its fourth year, RT's In The Now has resurrected a forgotten clip from a 2016 CNN interview with Senator Rand Paul, which is currently going viral. In a piece of cable news history that rivals Madeleine Albright's infamous words during a 1996 60 Minutes appearance where she calmly and coldly proclaimed of 500,000 dead Iraqi children that "the price is worth it," CNN's Wolf Blitzer railed against Senator Paul's opposition to a proposed $1.1 billion US arms sale to Saudi Arabia by arguing that slaughter of Yemeni civilians was worth it so long as it benefits US jobs and defense contractors. At the time ...

Realtor Daniel Sheikhan noticed a residue in his cupholders after picking his car up from Mercedes-Benz Mississaugua, which he says inspired him to review the footage recorded during the "service." After sitting on the lift for just 11 minutes (despite Sheikhan being charged for 90 minutes of labor), two Mercedes techs took his S63 out for an expletive-laced joyride to ...
