Tula's governor Vladimir Gruzdev said that the regional government plans to purchase Chinese cars made by the GWM. Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of the GWM plant in Tula's Uzlovaya town, Gruzdev said the localized enterprise would build China-designed cars from scratch, not merely assemble them. "This company brings in the most advanced technology. Tula regional government promises to buy these cars," Interfax news agency quoted ...

Iran has began pre-startup tests on a pipeline built to transport natural gas to Iraq to feed the country’s power plants, says an Iranian official. “After the end of cleaning and calibration pigging, 97 kilometers (Iran’s section) of the pipeline will become operational,” Alireza Gharibi, managing director of Iranian Gas Engineering and Development Company, said on Friday. He added that the 97-kilometer pipeline, 48 inches in diameter, will be linked to Iran’s gas trunklines (IGATs) to deliver natural gas from Iran to Iraq. Last month, Iran’s Deputy Oil Minister for International Affairs and Trading Ali Majedi said Iran is expected to start pumping gas to ...

GAS PRICES ARE FALLING!

GAS PRICES ARE FALLING! August 22nd, 2014 by James Quinn The MSM has been pounding the table about falling gas prices. And for once they are correct. The average prices has fallen by about 25 cents per gallon in the last two months. That is a 6.8% decline. Not too bad. I’ll take it. It will reduce the money coming out of my wallet weekly. The MSM is breathlessly pounding home the fact that gas prices in August are the lowest in the last four years. We must be in a long-term downtrend that is saving Americans millions of dollars. It must be that shale oil miracle. It couldn’t possibly be the economy in recession, less miles being driven and weakening demand ...

HAVANA, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- Cuba's Central Bank (CBC) announced Tuesday it will issue new banknotes with enhanced security measures, as one of the first steps toward establishing a single-currency system. "The Central Bank of Cuba informs the public about the upcoming issuance of national currency banknotes with new security measures," the bank was quoted by official daily Granma as saying. The report detailed watermarks and other anti-counterfeiting features of new 20, 50 and 100 Cuban peso bills. All "bills currently in circulation, which have been printed prior to 2014...will remain valid," the central bank said. In October 2013, the government announced the ...

Blackstone's Wien: Fear of Geopolitical Strife 'Keeps Me Up at Night' Friday, 15 Aug 2014 10:37 AM By Dan Weil The geopolitical turmoil coursing through the world the past few weeks has had only a minor impact on the stock market. The S&P 500 slid 4.3 percent from its July 24 record high to its low last Thursday, but since then has rebounded 2.2 percent. The index stood at 1,963 Friday morning. Still, Byron Wien, vice chairman of Blackstone Advisory, says caution is warranted, given the trouble in the Mideast, Ukraine and the South China Sea. "Right now the market is saying that all of these things are going to work out favorably," he tells CNBC. "Well, ...

Backroom Manipulation of Silver Prices to End?

Welcome to this week’s Market Wrap Podcast, I’m Mike Gleason. This week saw the end of an era for the silver market – and potentially a new dawn for investors in the metal who have long cried foul over price manipulation. On Thursday, the London silver fixing ended after 117 years of setting benchmark prices through ritualized backroom trading. Many precious metals investors welcome the departure of the archaic price-setting mechanism. It will be replaced by supposedly more transparent electronic markets. The new silver pricing system made its debut this week. It is administered by the CME Group and Thomson Reuters and known as the London Silver Price. The U.S. Mint said ...

Adrian Cook, managing director of Carnarvon Petroleum, one of three junior partners in the venture, said the discovery represents one of the most significant developments in Australian oil and gas in recent times. "This is the most significant new oil play in ...

Reuters Insight: Fed's Yellen Resolved to Avoid Raising Rates Too Soon, Fearing Downturn Thursday, 14 Aug 2014 07:30 AM Approaching a historic turn in U.S. monetary policy, Janet Yellen has staked her tenure as chair of the Federal Reserve on a simple principle: she'd rather fight inflation than another economic downturn. Interviews with current and former Fed officials indicate that Yellen and core decision-makers at the U.S. central bank are determined not to raise interest rates too early and risk hurting the fragile U.S. economy. It's a commitment that will be vigorously tested in coming months as pressure builds inside the Fed, among Republicans on Capitol Hill, and ...

The De-industrialization of America

On January 6, 2004, Paul Craig Roberts and US Senator Charles Schumer published a jointly written article on the op-ed page of the New York Times titled “Second Thoughts on Free Trade.” The article pointed out that the US had entered a new economic era in which American workers face “direct global competition at almost every job level–from the machinist to the software engineer to the Wall Street analyst. Any worker whose job does not require daily face-to-face interaction is now in jeopardy of being replaced by a lower-paid equally skilled worker thousands of miles away. American jobs are being lost not to competition from foreign companies, but to multinational ...

Bitcoin: Baffling or brilliant?

RT... Governments are struggling to understand bitcoin. Understanding history might help them better appreciate the Copernican revolution in money. The establishment never deals easily with changes to its status quo. A cocktail of delay, denial and confusion is the usual heady mix which afflicts the governing classes as the bureaucracy wrestles with what art critic Robert Hughes deliciously described as “the shock of the new.” With any form of innovation, the state sector tends to wrap itself in a fetal position and hope the problem goes away. Sometimes the problem is resolved by an outbreak of management decision making, or, the powers that be simply find a way to regulate the ...

Canada-US pipeline may spark more emissions than expected

Paris (AFP) - A proposed pipeline from Canada to the United States may result in much higher greenhouse gas emissions than previously calculated as it could fuel greater oil consumption through higher production and lower prices, a study said Sunday. Researchers from the Stockholm Environment Institute used a mathematical model to estimate the Keystone XL pipeline's potential for atmospheric pollution. Unlike calculations by the US State Department, they took into account a possible consumption rise in line with production, the pair wrote in the journal Nature Climate Change. It was not clear, though, what the production increase was likely to be. Using basic supply-and-demand ...

The largest private solar field in the United States, owned by Apple to support its local data center, comprises two 20-megawatt solar arrays, each covering 100 acres, and a few sheep that graze between the lines of panels. It is part of Apple's efforts to reduce its carbon footprint by using renewable energy and driving energy efficiency in its products. All of Apple's four data centers have used 100 percent renewable energy since March last year, and the one in ...

Russia signed a historic $20 billion oil deal with Iran to bypass both western sanctions and the dollar based western monetary system yesterday. Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak and his Iranian counterpart Bijan Zanganeh signed a five-year memorandum of understanding in Moscow, which included cooperation in the oil sector. "Based on Iran's proposal, we will participate in arranging shipments of crude oil, including to the Russian market," Novak was quoted as saying. The five year accord will see Russia help Iran “organise oil sales” as well as “cooperate in the oil-gas industry, construction of power plants, grids, supply of machinery, consumer goods ...
