So, who is minding the trading desks of all of the big banks, hedge funds and other mega financials? The newbies. They’re the third-stringers… the last men on the deal team… the last to know. So when we see some action on the markets, we ...

In addition to being an engine of misery, corruption, and bloodshed, the War on Drugs should be seen as a multi-tiered criminal enterprise. At the top echelon are found the political figureheads who recite pious bromides. That’s likewise where we encounter the bureaucratic scribes responsible for crafting those cynical pronouncements and the legislation that gives them substance. The operational level consists of federally subsidized, hyper-aggressive law enforcement agencies that carry out military-style raids and seizures. This includes squalid undercover police operatives and the petty criminals who act as “cooperating informants,” as well as the strutting armored ...

How sanctions will affect the West’s $35bn invested in Russian oil

RussiaToday Reuters / Toby Melville Download video (44.18 MB) The US and EU have banned the export to Russia of hi-tech oil equipment needed in Arctic, deep sea, and shale extraction projects. This will leave Western companies, which have an estimated $35 billion invested in Russian oil, in a bind. New stage three sanctions won’t immediately slash Russian oil production, which at 10.55 million barrels per day is the world’s largest, but could derail future foreign investment in Russia’s oil industry. Russia is home to the largest combined oil and gas reserves in the world. The US and the 28 EU countries hope to influence Moscow’s foreign policy in eastern Ukraine. ...

Why a Single Rate Tax Inspires Patriotism

Why a Single Rate Tax Inspires Patriotism By Michael Busler Over this past weekend, President Obama said American companies that relocate their headquarters to foreign countries in order to pay lower corporate tax rates, are unpatriotic. It is like the companies are renouncing their citizenship, he said. While Obama admits that the solution is to reduce the corporate tax rate, he believes that will take too long. Rather he wants legislation that closes the "loophole". Is there an easier and better solution that also increases economic growth, creates the perception of fairness and encourages patriotism? The corporate tax rate, on marginal income, in the U.S. is about 40%, which ...

Marc Faber Remains Adamant: Stocks Will Drop As Much As 30 Percent Monday, 28 Jul 2014 09:43 PM By Dan Weil For months Marc Faber, publisher of the Gloom, Boom & Doom Report, has predicted that U.S. stocks would plunge, and for months they have repeatedly hit record highs. The S&P 500 closed Monday at 1,978.91, within 1 percent of its record high. But Faber is unbowed. "I was looking for a correction, but now I really think that we'll make peak sometime within the next 30 to 60 days. And then go down meaningfully," he tells CNBC. He thinks a 20 to 30 percent drop is coming by October. "Don't forget many stocks are already down 10 percent," Faber ...

What’s Fessler’s “Barrel of Oil Six Times Cheaper Than Water?”

David Fessler hasn’t gotten much coverage in the pages of Gumshoe for quite a while, so when he started teasing about a company that he thinks will have gains of more than 100% by year-end… and that he thinks can produce oil for 28 cents a gallon using “Futuristic Technology … it seemed tailor made for today’s teaser solutionizing. Which is not to say that that 28 cents a gallon number is meaningful — he talks about drilling technology like drilling multiple horizontal zones from one rig, and having multiple rigs on one pad, so presumably that means “lifting costs” (not exploration costs, or processing/midstream/upstream costs). There are 42 ...

Last fall, I became a barista in a small, “socially responsible” coffee company. A few months later, I got a temporary paralegal position at one of the world’s biggest multinational, corporate law firms. The two companies had little in common, but both told me one thing: Don't talk to your coworkers about your pay. At the law firm, this warning was conveyed to me during my salary negotiation. After I had worked for three months through a temp agency, the firm offered me a spot on their payroll. Given the size and success of the firm, the starting salary seemed low. The HR manager tried to convince me that the offer was competitive. She told me that she couldn’t ...

We just received a very urgent opportunity from our friends over at Money Map Press. It involves our colleague Dr. Kent Moors and a little-known construction site in a small Louisiana town. Take a look: You can see the site contains five large storage containers near a large body of water. Seems pretty ordinary, right? Think again. Most people have no idea what any of this means... What you're seeing is actually a $10 billion construction site. The areas highlighted in red and orange represent trains currently being built. Most people don't understand the significance of this location. And that's a shame because according to Dr. Moors - it could change your retirement ...

U.S. Treasury officials are trumpeting the fact that more than 77,000 financial institutions have registered with the Internal Revenue Service, as required by the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (Fatca), ahead of a July 1 deadline. Fatca requires these institutions to report on the financial holdings of their U.S. clients with the aim of reducing the incidence of off-shore tax evasion by wealthy Americans. Yet officials are less willing to discuss how Fatca worsens the already profoundly unjust tax treatment of millions of middle-class Americans living abroad. The vast majority of U.S. expatriates living abroad harbor a strong sense of patriotism that includes a willingness shoulder ...
