Moscow plans to sign an agreement with Iran this year to construct up to eight new nuclear reactors in the country, an informed source says. "Russia and Iran may sign an intergovernmental agreement this year on building from four to eight nuclear reactors, and, under the deal, the contract for the construction of the first two reactors as additions to Bushehr," the source informed of the contract’s negotiation process told Reuters on Thursday. The source noted that negotiations on the agreement are at the final stage, adding that two reactors could be constructed at the Bushehr Power Plant and six others will be built at other nuclear sites across Iran. Russian state ...

I'm a Fiat Slave, And So Are You

Fiat money is at base a form of indirect wealth transfer from those forced to hold the money to those issuing the money. I describe the pernicious servitude created by debt as debt serfdom, as serfdom implies a neofeudal arrangement that requires serfs' acceptance of this financial yoke of servitude. In other words, debt is freely accepted as the line of least resistance in a system that incentivizes debt and places high barriers to debt-free independence from a Status Quo operated to benefit the owners and issuers of debt, not the debtors. Correspondent Jeff W. has identified an even more insidious form of monetary servitude that he calls fiat slavery, as the servitude is enforced by ...

Swiss say no to world’s highest minimum wage

SwissInfo Voters in Switzerland have rejected plans for a nationwide minimum wage. At CHF22 ($25) an hour, the limit would have been the highest in the world. In Sunday's nationwide vote 76.3% of voters were against the initiative. Voter turnout was 55.5%. Under the initiative, someone on a minimum wage in Switzerland would have earned double the rate in Britain or the United States. Although high, the Swiss limit was set against the country’s high cost of living, where the median hourly wage is around CHF33. Luxembourg currently has the top ‘real’ minimum wage at $10.70 an hour, when adjusted for purchasing power, and the Swiss wage would have been comfortably ahead ...

Historic Sino/Russian Trade Deal Signed

Historic Sino/Russian Trade Deal Signed by Stephen Lendman New York Times editors ate crow. They did so without admitting it. Hours earlier they approved copy headlining "China and Russia Fail to Reach Deal on Gas Plan." It was when Russian officials said it was 98% complete. Finalizing it looked imminent. On May 21, it was signed, sealed and delivered as promised. A follow-up Times article was was woefully dishonest. It suppressed what readers need to know. It headlined "China and Russia Are Said to Reach Major Gas Deal." Close to reaching it should have been reported the previous day. Times editors tolerate no favorable Sino/Russian reports. Its correspondents ...

D’oh – James O’Keefe Documents Extremely Hypocritical Hollywood Team Happily Willing To Undermine U.S. Energy Independence To Benefit Saudi Oil… (Video Sting Included) This undercover video is brilliant. James O’Keefe creates a sting where he is willing to finance an anti-fracking movie for Hollywood environmentalists. His approach is to use a fictitious character named Muhammad who will only finance the film under the agreement the film’s intent must be to undermine U.S. energy independence. The Hollywood crew consisting of Ed Begley Jr, Mariel Hemingway, and producers Josh and Rebecca Tickell are totally willing to disguise the source of the funding, and ...

Walmart Is Falling Apart Before Our Eyes

For most of the past five decades, Wal-Mart (NYSE: WMT ) has been the retailer competitors feared most and as a result it made for a phenomenal investment for its shareholders. But Wal-Mart has begun to lose its cache with consumers and major holes are starting to form in its business. Interestingly, Wal-Mart has hidden its financial problems from the headlines because challenges are different around the world, masking themselves in the overall picture. But when you dig between the headlines you can see a company in serious trouble and could be the latest in a long line of leading retailers to go from boom to bust in the blink of an eye. Wal-Mart stores in the U.S. aren't nearly as ...

Russia and China seal historic $400bn gas deal

RT... After 10 years of negotiations, Russia's Gazprom and China's CNPC have finally signed a historic gas deal which will provide the world's fastest growing economy with the natural gas it needs to keep pace for the next 30 years. The total value of the contract is $400 billion, Gazprom CEO Aleksey Miller said. However, the price of gas stipulated in the document remains a "commercial secret." Assuming the overall price of the contract includes only the cost of supplies of Russian gas, than the $400 billion price tag means China will pay about $350 per 1,000 cubic meters. To date, this is the largest contract for Russia's largest gas producer which has no ...

What conservatives of the '30s teach left and right today about crony capitalism There was a time in the Depression of the 1930s when conservative thought sprang from the dire concrete reality of that terrible era, not from abstractions. They did not use the word “conservative” very often, preferring to call themselves “decentralists” or “agrarians.” Eclectic in background, they were columnists, poets, historians, literary figures, economists, theologians, and civic advocates. In 1936, Herbert Agar, a prominent author, foreign correspondent, and columnist for the Louisville Courier-Journal and Alan Tate, poet and social commentator, brought a selection of ...

Don’t Ban the Banks, but Don’t Let Them Issue Money Either

Epoch Times... Money should not be a complicated thing. Earn it, spend it, save it, and sometimes you’ll have to borrow it. Yet, the way money comes into existence has a profound impact on how we lead our lives. Most people think the Federal government issues money. This is not true for several reasons. First, the Federal Reserve issues dollar notes, which make up the bulk of currency in circulation ($1.23 trillion), but the Federal System is privately owned and not part of the U.S. government. Second, the rest of what we perceive as money is created by the banking system. Nowadays, most payments, especially large ones, are electronic and go through our checking accounts. The ...

Traders made hundreds of millions off of leaked Fed decisions

Researchers in Singapore say millions of dollars in profit was generated illegally by traders in the United States who took advantage of privileged Federal Reserve policy decisions disclosed to them before becoming publicly available. According to that study, “robust evidence” exists suggesting that traders who knew in advance about Fed rate announcements traded during an embargo period, unlawfully benefiting by cutting those deals at the most opportune moment possible and in turn pocketing upwards of $256 million during a 16-year span. Price movements between September 1997 and June 2013 noted by the researchers were “statistically significant and in the direction of the ...

(Reuters) - AT&T plans to pay $48.5 billion to buy DirecTV, the top U.S. satellite TV operator, in a bid for growth beyond an increasingly competitive cellular market. The deal, announced on Sunday, comes as Comcast Corp awaits regulatory approval of its $45 billion bid for Time Warner Cable Inc, a transaction that has the potential to transform the television landscape by creating a new cable and broadband Internet powerhouse. AT&T said it is offering $95 per DirecTV share in a combination of stock and cash, a 10 percent premium over Friday's closing price of $86.18. The cash portion, $28.50 per share, will be financed by cash, asset sales, financing already lined up and ...

How to Save Our Dying Country by Wayne Mulligan Before the U.S.A. even came into existence, entrepreneurship defined its culture. European settlers journeyed here to start fresh... Pioneers pushed westward to stake their claims... And nowadays, tech entrepreneurs flock to Silicon Valley to pursue world-changing ideas. Entrepreneurship is the original American Dream, and it's created one of the most prosperous nations on the globe. Recently, however, a study revealed that the American Dream might be dying – and with it, our entire economy. Although some farsighted people have made it their mission to tackle this problem head-on, their efforts may be in vain. Let me ...

Greenspan: Taxpayers on the Hook to Rescue JPMorgan in Crisis

Greenspan: Taxpayers on the Hook to Rescue JPMorgan in Crisis Wednesday, 14 May 2014 08:07 PM Former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan said JPMorgan Chase & Co. is akin to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac because taxpayers would shoulder the burden of its rescue in an emergency, rather than let it collapse. JPMorgan, the nation’s largest bank, is an example of implicit government guarantees not measured in the nation’s official public-debt statistics, Greenspan, 88, said Wednesday at a forum in Washington organized by the Peter G. Peterson Foundation. The reality is that the government would prop up many financial firms and other companies if needed, he said. ...

BofA's Curry: Gold May Drop to $1,180 Thursday, 15 May 2014 04:13 AM By Dan Weil Gold has stalled after rising for the first 3 ½ months of the year, and MacNeil Curry, head of global technical strategy at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, says the precious metal is headed downward, perhaps to $1,180 an ounce. "We've been in a medium-term downtrend since peaking out back in March at about the $1,392 area," Curry tells CNBC. "And price action since the beginning of April has done nothing to reverse that downtrend. All we've been doing is consolidating." June gold futures settled at $1,305.80 Wednesday on the Comex. Gold soared 15 percent from the end ...

Billionaire David Tepper, who runs $20 billion distressed debt hedge fund Appaloosa Management, gave some cautious comments at the SALT Conference in Las Vegas on Wednesday evening. Tepper is one of those closely followed fund managers. Following his comments, S&P futures hit session lows and Treasuries hit session highs. Tepper has one of the best long-term performance track records in the hedge fund world. He has also been the highest paid fund manager the last two years. "I think if you had a million with David when he started Appaloosa, it would be worth more than $191 million," SkyBridge Capital's Anthony Scaramucci said during the introduction. Scaramucci's ...

Russia Is On The Verge Of Dealing A Massive Blow To The Petrodollar

Is the petrodollar monopoly about to be shattered? When U.S. politicians started slapping economic sanctions on Russia, they probably never even imagined that there might be serious consequences for the United States. But now the Russian media is reporting that the Russian Ministry of Finance is getting ready to pull the trigger on a "de-dollarization" plan. For decades, virtually all oil and natural gas around the world has been bought and sold for U.S. dollars. As I will explain below, this has been a massive advantage for the U.S. economy. In recent years, there have been rumblings by nations such as Russia and China about the need to change to a new system, but nobody has ...

Obama’s Economic Recovery is Actually Killing The U.S. Dollar by Bill White It seems as if every day there’s another news report about the economy. President Obama is out campaigning constantly about how well it is doing, but reports that are coming out of the various government departments and independent think tanks belie his constant rhetoric. If he could do as well at managing our country as he does in campaigning about it, our economy would be skyrocketing. It’s long been known that the “official” figures we are hearing out of Washington are false. Anyone else would be thrown in jail and the key purposefully lost for being as good at cooking the books as the ...

U.S. Senate Republicans block energy bill, forfeit Keystone vote

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Senate Republicans on Monday blocked an energy-efficiency bill backed by manufacturers and environmentalists, forfeiting a chance to vote on the long-delayed Keystone XL oil pipeline. On a nearly party-line vote of 55-36, President Barack Obama's Democrats fell short of the 60 votes needed to advance the bipartisan energy bill supported by the White House. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Nevada Democrat, had offered a vote on a separate bill to take the final decision on Keystone out of Obama's hands and give it to Congress if Republicans allowed passage of the energy bill. But Republicans refused. They complained that Reid barred them from ...

Just in case you haven’t been keeping up with the ‘tin-foil’ hat conspiracies, increasingly proven to be true, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, is the center of a secret global economy that has bailed out American International Group Inc., huge insurance companies like AIG, Goldman Sachs Group Inc., Merrill Lynch & Co., J.P. Morgan,Societe Generale and Deutsche Bank AG, among others. The secret cabal’s control over international markets is becoming less of a mystery as increasing numbers of markets reveal themselves so obviously to be fixed. The cabal cheats the 99 percent with Libor interest rates, foreign exchanges, and gold, silver, and platinum price ...

Jeremy Siegel: Long-Term Bond Yields Will Stay Low, So Dow Will Still Hit 18,000 Thursday, 08 May 2014 07:19 AM By Dan Weil Long-term interest rates should remain low amid positive fundamentals for bonds, says financial market guru Jeremy Siegel, a finance professor at University of Pennsylvania. "Everyone expected the 10-year [Treasury yield] to be 3.5 percent by now on its way to 4 percent. It's closer to 2.5 percent," he tells CNBC. The 10-year yield stood at 2.63 percent Thursday morning and touched a two-month low of 2.57 percent Monday. Siegel admitted that he was part of the chorus predicting higher yields. "Now I think we're going to have low interest ...

Business for Survival: Make Money During Crisis BIG_businessWith a financial collapse looming on the horizon, we all need to be preparing. While the normal things that preppers do are important to surviving an economic collapse, they aren’t the only things to think of. That’s because an economic collapse looks a bit different than other types of disasters. In many ways and for many people, an economic collapse looks just like life as normal. It isn’t the same as an EMP attack, where pretty much all the infrastructure we depend upon will be shut down. Rather, during a financial collapse, it is the economy which gets affected; specifically high unemployment and high ...
