Ding-dong, Cap One calling. Credit card issuer Capital One isn't shy about getting into customers' faces. The company recently sent a contract update to cardholders that makes clear it can drop by any time it pleases. The update specifies that "we may contact you in any manner we choose" and that such contacts can include calls, emails, texts, faxes or a "personal visit." As if that weren't creepy enough, Cap One says these visits can be "at your home and at your place of employment." The police need a court order to pull off something like that. But Cap One says it has the right to get up close and personal anytime, anywhere. Rick Rofman, 71, ...

Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan and Citigroup are among the banks that have successfully completed trial runs using their own models to assess risk and capital requirements. However, Citi said in a statement that the Fed allowed it to use its own models only after insisting it changed its capital calculation. Under the new calculation agreed with the Fed, Citis assets increased by $56bn and its main capital ratio fell from 10.5 per cent to 10.1 per cent. The announcement by the Federal Reserve and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency on Friday gives those banks clarity on what methods they can use to calculate their capital requirements. During the trial run, banks had to show ...

The Global Paradigm Shift is in full swing. The Global Currency Reset is near, better described as the Return of the Gold Standard. The Iran Nuclear Talks will proceed to conclusion, better described as the Petro-Dollar Surrender Talks with nuclear proliferation rider agreements. The last chance is Gold & Silver, since what comes will be like a mighty storm. In its wake, the only wealth standing will be gold, silver, resource deposits (energy, minerals, water), and farmland. Time is running low for the many citizens of the United States and the other nations of the world to wake up and benefit from their own epiphanies. It is very late, far past the eleventh hour. Both Russian oil and gas majors signed an agreement to cooperate with Algerian state-owned Sonatrach in August 2006, but so far no joint projects have been agreed, Vedomosti newspaper said. Sonatrach is the largest Algerian and African company and the 11th largest oil consortium in the world. US olive oil pushing gov't to test imported oils Post Date: 2014-02-19 02:23:37 by Tatarewicz

It's a pressing matter for the tiny U.S olive oil industry. Shoppers are more often pouring European oil _ it's cheaper and viewed as more authentic than the American competition. And that's pitting U.S. producers against importers of the European oil. Some liken the battle to the California wine industry's struggles to gain acceptance decades ago. The tiny California olive industry says European olive oil filling U.S. shelves often is mislabeled and lower grade. They're pushing the federal government to give more scrutiny to imported varieties. One congressman-farmer even goes as far as suggesting labels on imported oil say "extra rancid" rather than extra ...

Hulbert: 'Eerie Parallels' Between Current Dow Chart and That of 1929 Tuesday, 11 Feb 2014 11:30 AM By Dan Weil A chart of the Dow Jones Industrial Average going back to July 2012 closely matches one from 1928-29, signaling a crash may be coming later this month or in March, if the correlation continues, says Mark Hulbert, editor of Hulbert Financial Digest. "There are eerie parallels between the stock markets recent behavior and how it behaved right before the 1929 crash," he writes in an article for MarketWatch. He first wrote about the chart on MarketWatch in early December, questioning its validity. But now that the pattern has continued to repeat, he's ...

IBT Prices have continued to fall across multiple bitcoin exchanges, caused by a halt of withdrawals on one of the oldest ones. Mt.Gox suspended withdrawal capability on its exchange Friday, starting a chain reaction of price declines that was still underway as of noon Monday. Mt.Gox has seen the largest of the drops, but other large exchanges like BTC-e and Bitstamp have experienced a valuation decrease as well, creating a buyers market for the virtual currency. In the month leading up to Friday, bitcoin prices had experienced a period of stability, giving proponents of the cryptocurrency a point of contention with naysayers who see it as highly volatile. That all changed, though, ...

I think it is remarkable that, despite the growth the US has enjoyed since the 1960s, the poverty rate has barely changed. Writing for the Wall Street Journal last month under the title How the War on Poverty Was Lost, Robert Rector notes that: Fifty years and $20 trillion later, LBJs goal to help the poor become self-supporting has failed. He writes further: On Jan. 8, 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson used his State of the Union address to announce an ambitious government undertaking. This administration today, here and now, he thundered, declares unconditional war on poverty in America. Fifty years later, were losing that ...

Three Currencies Ready for a HUGE Revaluation by Karim Rahemtulla Senior Correspondent & Emerging Markets Specialist, Wall Street Daily Dear Wall Street Daily Reader, The U.S. dollar and euro are doomed. Why? Because in addition to being in slow-growth economies, saddled with debilitating debts, theyre the victims of an enormous increase in money supply. Result? Serious inflation and devaluation for both currencies in the coming years. Even if the United States doesnt add to its already bloated debt, the interest on it coupled with massive money printing virtually guarantees higher prices. The same goes for Europe, as the region is printing money out of ...

Elliott Management's Singer: US Economy Is Steered By a Ship of Fools Wednesday, 05 Feb 2014 07:25 AM By John Morgan While the Washington, D.C., establishment looks the other way and pretends calamity is not around the corner, the Federal Reserve has been doubling down on all of the perilous risks that caused the 2008 financial meltdown, says hedge fund titan Paul Singer, principal of Elliott Management. Singer is decidedly not a fan of quantitative easing (QE) or other Fed policies that have artificially plumped up asset prices. In his January letter obtained by ZeroHedge, Singer says the impact of government monetary policy has grown so "manipulative and large" that it ...

Harvard's Martin Feldstein: It's Still Morning in America Monday, 03 Feb 2014 08:06 AM By John Morgan Although the United States will experience slower growth, the country will be much richer in 40 years than it is today, says Martin Feldstein, the Harvard economist who once chaired President Reagan's Council of Economic Advisers. In an opinion piece for Project Syndicate, Feldstein lists several reasons for his sunny outlook. Two of them are unusual, but seem perfectly reasonable. They have to do with the American penchant for innovation and technological breakthroughs. Namely, Feldstein notes that per capital GDP does not measure improvements in the quality of goods and ...

Reid Derails Fast Track by Stephen Lendman Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D. NV) opposes fast track legislation. He broke with Obama on trade policy. "I'm against fast track," he said. "I think everyone would be well-advised not to push this right now." Senator John Cornyn (R. TX) said: "You can kiss any new trade deals goodbye. I think the majority leader's focus is on the November elections, and he doesn't want to expose his vulnerable members to controversial votes." AFL-CIO trade policy specialist Celeste Drake called Reid's comments "a great opportunity to get off the fast track to bad trade deals and open the policy window ...

Casual dining is in some serious trouble. Americans have been told for decades, in cheery voiceovers, that inexpensive sit-down meals at national chains meant Eating good in the neighborhood, where Its always Friday. Every mall or major intersection was given a Chilis, an Olive Garden or an Applebees sometimes all three. Yet the casual-dining industry has largely worn out its welcome. Customer traffic to these restaurants has declined in nine of the past 13 years, according to retail-research firm Black Box Intelligence. Even as the U.S. economy began healing and consumer spending recovered, beginning in 2010, same-store sales were ...
