Beta Testing QE 4 - "Large Amount" Of $100 Bills Stolen From Federal Reserve Post Date: 2012-10-13 20:58:47 by Esso

A month ago, just before the launch of QEternity, we caught a rare glimpse of what may be the beta test of one of the Fed's latest ploys in "unconventional monetary easing" when bank robbers decided to throw money out of their car in central LA during a police pursuit. Today, a month later, and 4 weeks after Bernanke's latest open-ended monetary easing, incorrectly reference virtually everywhere as QE3 (as Twist has had more flow impact on the market than QE 1 and 2 combined) has proven to be, at least so far, an absolute failure, we learn what perhaps may be an even more "effective" approach to juicing the monetary supply with quite literally brand new, freshly ...

Texas-based oilfield services company Baker Hughes Inc. reported Friday that 1,411 rigs were exploring for oil and 422 were searching for gas. Two were listed as miscellaneous. A year ago, Baker Hughes listed 2,023 rigs. Of the major oil- and gas-producing states, Texas gained four rigs while Alaska, New Mexico and Oklahoma gained one apiece. Louisiana lost four rigs, and California dropped by three. Arkansas, Colorado, North Dakota and Wyoming lost one rig apiece. Pennsylvania and West Virginia were unchanged. The rig count peaked at 4,530 in 1981 and ...

'The Bank Was Saved, and the People Were Ruined.' Post Date: 2012-10-10 07:35:22 by Ada

The above quote is from William Gouge, commenting on the Panic of 1819. The panic had been caused when the First Bank of the United States had first expanded the money supply dramatically by offering loans, then contracted the money supply by tightening its requirements for new loans, causing a crash. This is a useful quote, as, in its simplicity, it states the very nature of crashes brought on by irresponsible banking practices. In every case in which this occurs, it is possible through the complicity of the government of the day. The origin of this syndrome goes back to Mayer Rothschild, a very clever fellow who, in the late 18th century, offered financial benefits to politicians in ...
GOLDMAN: A Significant Tax Hike Is Coming, And Neither Party Is Even Talking About Stopping It Post Date: 2012-10-09 08:42:43 by Ada

Goldman's Jan Hatzius takes the pulse of the economy, and mostly thinks things are getting a little better. GDP is now back to tracking at 3.0%, which is hardly robust, but a bit better than where it's been. The jobs report was confusing and mixed...Hatzius sees reasons for optimism and pessimism in it. But one thing he's certain about is that the economy is almost guaranteed to suffer a fiscal hit in the near future, and that leaders in both parties don't seem intent on avoiding it. This is from his newest note. Although the present situation looks a bit better, we think the risks to growth over the next few quarters are skewed to the downside. The biggest concern is ...
How Americans view wealth and inequality Post Date: 2012-10-05 23:40:26 by X-15

There have been lots of questions and discussions recently about inequality and economists often argue about what is the right level of inequality to have in society. But Mike Norton, professor at Harvard Business School, and I decided to take a different path and we decided to ask people what inequality they would want. Now, there are lots of ways to ask this question and we used the philosopher John Rawls. Rawls said that "a just society is a society that if you knew everything about it, you'd be willing to enter it in a random place". And it's really a beautiful definition. He called it a veil of ignorance, because if you're very wealthy, you might want the ...
Warnings That A Massive Stock Market Crash Is Imminent Post Date: 2012-10-05 06:41:57 by Tatarewicz

In the financial world, the month of October is synonymous with stock market crashes. So will a massive stock market crash happen this year? You never know. The truth is that our financial system is even more vulnerable than it was back in 2008, and financial experts such as Doug Short, Peter Schiff, Robert Wiedemer and Harry Dent are all warning that the next crash is rapidly approaching. We are living in the greatest debt bubble in the history of the world and Wall Street has been transformed into a giant casino that is based on a massive web of debt, risk and leverage. When that web breaks we are going to see a stock market crash that is going to make 2008 look like a Sunday picnic. ...
13 States Now Considering Gold and Silver as Money Post Date: 2012-10-02 10:41:08 by christine

13 States Now Considering Gold and Silver as Money:When the governor of Utah signed a bill that made gold bullion and silver bullion legal tender in the state last March, he had no idea of the groundswell he was going to start. The Utah Sound Money Act outright flies in the face of the fiat money system, which is the printed money used today; backed by nothing but the promises of politicians
It is not practical for people to carry around heavy gold bullion or silver bullion coins, so the Utah Gold & Silver Depository was created. People can deposit their gold bullion and silver bullion coins there and receive a debit card to make transactions withjust like ...

Mexico is the biggest unreported story of the year. Just look at the Mexican ETF (NYSE: EWW) compared to China (NYSE: FXI) and Brazil (NYSE: EWZ): mexican etf India and Russia are well off their highs as well. Face it, BRIC is dead. But the stock market of our good neighbor to the south is making new highs. In fact, the Mexican Bolsa IPC Index is just off its all-time highs of 41,600. It looks like the best-performing stock market of the last twenty years. The U.S. is Mexico's biggest trade partner, with 80% of its exports. That might seem like a lot, but this is down from 87% just a few years ago as Mexico diversifies its economy. The country currently has 44 free trade ...

Leonardo Fibonacci (1170-1250) may have just stuck his 'golden-ratio-based' fork in the equity market's rally. As the following chart shows, the diminishing marginal utility of Quantitative Easing's wealth effect has followed a rather remarkable pattern... and today marks the next turning point. Applying a Fibonacci-based 61.8% retracement level to each of the time-periods following the March 2009 lows, produces a very interesting cycle overlay on the S&P 500 rallies...

Of the many debts that John Suckow would like to unwind from Lehman Brothers Holdings, the first might be shame. Stigma, baggage, jokes about zombie banks back from the deadSuckow would like to jettison all that, just as Lehman is liquidating what remains of its assets, four years after the banks failure sent the financial crisis into overdrive. There are deals to do, and creditors impatient to get pennies on the dollars owed them. Dwelling on the strangeness of Lehmans ongoing existence isnt going to get the work done faster. What might surprise you here a little bit, says Suckow, Lehmans president and chief executive officer, sitting in ...

Making solar power popular through leasing Post Date: 2012-09-24 04:57:02 by Tatarewicz

It was back in late 2004 when I told investors the solar industry was about to embark on a serious growth trajectory... It was that prediction that put me on the map, as it allowed us to make an absolute fortune from the solar rush than ran between 2005 and 2008. During that time, it was not uncommon to walk away with a triple-digit gain from nearly any stock that had the name solar in it. Those days are long gone. And today I won't touch 99% of the solar stocks out there but not because the solar industry isn't continuing to grow by leaps and bounds... Truth is the solar space consistently boasts dramatic growth, year after year. That much hasn't changed ...

In Hong Kong, the price for this asset is up a staggering 90% since 2009. Its gotten so bubbly that the Hong Kong Monetary Authority has implemented strict curbs to cool the market. This asset rose 11% in just six days on the expectation the Fed would announce QE3. The same thing is happening to our neighbor to the north, the resource-rich nation of Canada... Last week, Canada's finance minister also instituted new rules aimed at cooling this asset. And the housing story isnt happening just in Asia or Canada... The United States is in a bona fide housing bull market. Foreclosures are down dramatically. Refinancings are in a mega-boom. Theres a backlog jam of ...

The renewable industry has finally built up enough prestige that it isn't going to quietly lay down and die because of a few bumps in the road... We're coming out of a recession. The weakest industries were bound to be hit the hardest. But that doesn't mean industries like wind and solar are going to fade into oblivion. They've come too far to do that. Prices are falling and there are clear industry front-runners. The question is: Which form of power will achieve grid parity first? Wind power is one of the U.S.'s fastest-growing renewable sectors. With roughly 50 GW of wind power, we have something to be proud of. But we should save our boasting for now... A ...

Gold Counterfeiting Goes Viral: 10 Tungsten-Filled Gold Bars Are Discovered In Manhattan Tyler Durden's picture Submitted by Tyler Durden on 09/23/2012 12:24 -0400 Main Street United Kingdom A few days ago, our report on the discovery of a single 10 oz Tungsten-filled gold bar in Manhattan's jewelry district promptly went viral, as it meant that a tungsten-based, gold-counterfeiting operation, previously isolated solely to the UK and Europe, had crossed the Atlantic. The good news was that the counterfeiting case was isolated to just one 10 oz bar. This morning, the NYPost reports that as had been expected, in the aftermath of the realization that the sanctity of the gold ...

If you wanted to sum up the just-concluded Casey Research/Sprott Inc. Summit titled Navigating the Politicized Economy, you could say "The situation is hopeless but not serious." Casey Chief Economist Bud Conrad reconfirmed with a blizzard of charts and graphs that the ship of state is still heading for a fiscal iceberg

Billionaires Dumping Stocks, Economist Knows Why Post Date: 2012-09-20 01:58:09 by christine

Despite the 6.5% stock market rally over the last three months, a handful of billionaires are quietly dumping their American stocks . . . and fast. Warren Buffett, who has been a cheerleader for U.S. stocks for quite some time, is dumping shares at an alarming rate. He recently complained of disappointing performance in dyed-in-the-wool American companies like Johnson & Johnson, Procter & Gamble, and Kraft Foods. In the latest filing for Buffetts holding company Berkshire Hathaway, Buffett has been drastically reducing his exposure to stocks that depend on consumer purchasing habits. Berkshire sold roughly 19 million shares of Johnson & Johnson, and reduced ...
How to End the Fed, and How Not To Post Date: 2012-09-19 20:15:24 by X-15

It would be very easy to end the Federal Reserve System. Congress would write the following bill. The president would sign it. 1.The Federal Reserve Act of 1913 and all subsequent amendments to that act are hereby revoked. 2.The gold that belongs to the United States government, and which is kept on deposit with the Federal Reserve System, is hereby transferred to account of the United States Treasury. If the Federal Reserve System has made any secret agreements with other central banks regarding the ownership of that gold, those arrangements would become legally null and void. The Fed would own no gold of its own to deliver. Ownership would revert to the United States government. If ...
