Engineered protein crystals make cells magnetic
Post Date: 2021-05-23 19:49:22 by Horse

Source: American Chemical Society Summary: If scientists could give living cells magnetic properties, they could perhaps manipulate cellular activities with external magnetic fields. But previous attempts to magnetize cells by producing iron-containing proteins inside them have resulted in only weak magnetic forces. Now, researchers have engineered genetically encoded protein crystals that can generate magnetic forces many times stronger than those already reported. Poster Comment:Explains those magnet challenges viral amongst the recently vaccinated.

Smart People Say Dumb Things: Bill Gates Edition

Bill Gates has written a book: How to Avoid a Climate Disaster. Unfortunately, the book is a disaster. He doesn’t get past the introduction before making mistakes that negate the rest of the book. He claims Carbon Dioxide emissions must be reduced to zero to avoid a climate disaster. Assuming that CO2 can even cause a climate disaster, about half the CO2 emitted every year is reabsorbed by the Earth – by the oceans and by plants. Thus, you don’t need zero, a fifty percent reduction would stop the rise of CO2 in the atmosphere. It is vastly more difficult to cut out all emissions compared to cutting them in half. Gates claims we have to deploy solar and wind faster and ...

We romanticize the possibility of visitors from above to distract us from our failures to love our neighbors here below. Sooner or later it was inevitable. After mask discourse became a meta- conversation about the efficacy of the honor system and the Associated Press decided that reporting on the border was contrary to its style guide, we were going to have to settle on some absurd but basically innocuous topic to get us through the early days of Joe Biden’s presidency. Why not UFOs? Boredom aside, it is difficult to say exactly why the subject has returned to the news. Black and white footage of triangular blips apparently speeding past Navy aircraft was leaked to the New York ...

7.2 million-Year-Old Pre-Human Fossil Suggests Mankind Arose in Europe NOT Africa
Post Date: 2021-05-16 10:47:13 by Ada

A new analysis of two 7.2 million-year-old fossils belonging to a hominin species nicknamed “El Graeco” from Mediterranean Europe, suggests that mankind emerged in Europe and not in Africa. The new study could reshape history, since it openly challenges the “out of Africa theory.” The Out of Africa Theory in Serious Doubt When an ancient, toothy lower jaw was discovered back in 1944 in Pyrgos Vassilissis, Greece, nobody really paid attention to the fossil as the casualties in Greece from World War II were so catastrophic that the extremely significant discovery was literally ignored by most anthropologists. After a year of being browbeaten by THE SCIENTISTS not to wear a mask, to wear a mask, to wear double masks, to get vaccinated and still wear a mask, our analytic overlords are still no closer to determining the tiny little issue of where this virus came from. Recently, the widely respected science writer Nicholas Wade published an article in Medium pushing the idea that — contrary to what “the scientists” assured us — COVID-19 might have come from the Wuhan virology lab, not the wet markets. According to Wade, the virologists attacking the lab theory were claiming scientific certainty for something unknowable, and at least one of them has a gigantic conflict of ...

Chinese Rocket Impact Imminent as Experts Try to Pinpoint Ground Zero, Space Force Tracking Now Shared with Public by Jack Davis May 7, 2021 at 4:34pm As 23 tons of Chinese space junk hovers above the Earth preparing to make a blazing descent, U.S. Space Command is monitoring the massive rocket booster that sent a piece of China’s space station aloft last week. According to Space News, the 18th Space Control Squadron currently projects that the rocket will tumble to Earth sometime between 10:13 a.m. on May 8 and 4:13 a.m. on May 9. The New York Times reported the rocket is zipping around Earth at 18,000 miles per hour, which means that not until shortly before it actually falls ...

Project Artemis is a reminder that NASA has long spent tax-payer dollars to have a lot to say and little to show. America is scheduled to send people to the moon as soon as 2024. It’s called Project Artemis, and never mind the trillions in extra debt we’ve run up in the last few years, it’s a veritable steal at only $35 billion on top of the current NASA budget. But wait just a minute. Didn’t we already do that over half a century ago? It seems that in a desperate effort to keep this Trump-era reboot going, last month the Biden administration decided to add a killer app. It’s right there in the very first sentence of the NASA Artemis website. The agency ...

Elon Musk Claims We Are Living in a Simulation

The debate whether everything around us, including Earth and the rest of the universe, is a computer simulation has been going on ever since Swedish philosopher Nick Bostrom came up with the hypothesis. It was later popularised with the release of the sci-fi movie "The Matrix", in which humanity is trapped inside a simulated reality. SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk claims reality is nothing but a simulation. A 2016 video has reappeared online showing Musk speaking at a Code Conference. The tech maverick was asked whether humanity is living in a "Matrix" type of existence. The entrepreneur said the chances that everything around is real is one in billions. "The ...

Who’s Lysenko-ing Now?

Trofim Lysenko was a government-sponsored agronomist and biologist favored by Stalin and the CCCP. By favored, I mean put in charge, given power to define the terms and settle the science, and by government edict, was not to be criticized by man or beast. You know, like Tony Fauci. In the Lysenko era, from 1927 through Stalin’s death in 1953, Soviet academia, media, and party publicly rejected the ideas of Darwin’s natural selection and Mendelian genetics in favor of the early 1800’s ideas of Lamarck, who believed characteristics acquired during an organism’s life could be passed on genetically to the next generation. It wasn’t until 1962 that the Soviet state ...

On the Origin of Races

During America’s current racial crisis, it’s striking how useless and irrelevant has been the intellectual conventional wisdom, which denies that race even exists. So I’m going to step back from the daily fray this week and sketch out a stylized history of how we came to have two opposing ways to try to make sense of the realities of human biological diversity: as continuous or discontinuous. Do people mostly just differ slightly from their neighbors in a steady progression of blurry differences around the world? Or is it more helpful in organizing our knowledge of human variation to think of most individuals as belonging to largely separate major races? These mental ...

Prions: the danger of biochemical weapons
Post Date: 2021-04-28 08:45:45 by Horse

The knowledge of biotechnology increases the risk of using biochemical weapons for mass destruction. Prions are unprecedented infectious pathogens that cause a group of fatal neurodegenerative diseases by a novel mechanism. They are transmissible particles that are devoid of nucleic acid. Due to their singular characteristics, Prions emerge as potential danger since they can be used in the development of such weapons. Prions cause fatal infectious diseases, and to date there is no therapeutic or prophylactic approach against these diseases. Furthermore, Prions are resistant to food-preparation treatments such as high heat and can find their way from the digestive system into the nervous ...

Attention, parents: If your children are online, they are being bombarded by an inescapable public relations campaign by all the Bigs — Big Pharma, Big Government and Big Tech — to brainwash them about the COVID vaccine. While children under 18 remain at the lowest risk of COVID-19, peer pressure to get the experimental jabs is enormous. That groupthink is compounded by relentless messaging from politicians, celebrities and social media influencers posting virtue-signaling photos of themselves flaunting their arm Band-Aids and immunization papers. The playing field is rigged by internet titans who ban all dissenters and label all skepticism as “misinformation” or ...

Earth Day's legacy of failed apocalyptic predictions

All the solemnity that attaches to Earth Day, with scolds like Greta Thunberg and politicians attending "virtual" summits, ought to be drowned out by peals of laughter. The real slogan of the global warming crowd ought to be. "Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me fifty times, shame on you." Yes, fooled by phony proclamations of doom fifty times. At a minimum. Mark Perry of AEI draws on the work of others, and adds his own to come up with a list of 50 failed doomsday predictions. With hat tips to "Wrong Again: 50 Years of Failed Eco-pocalyptic Predictions," RealClimateScience, "Climate 'Experts' are 0-41 with Their Doomsday Predictions," and ...

Utah fire burning underground can’t be extinguished
Post Date: 2021-04-12 10:21:27 by Ada

Courtesy: Utah Geological Survey KANE COUNTY, Utah (KTVX) – The west has seen a rash of wildfires in recent years. Some caused by nature, others caused by humans. But geologists say one fire likely started by spontaneous combustion in Utah has been burning for decades and is showing no signs of dying out. If that’s not intriguing enough, the blaze is burning underground. In Kane County, a blazing hot area located north of western Lake Powell is dotted with heat-related places. Warm Creek, Burning Hills, Smoky Hollow, Blackburn Canyon, and Smoky Mountain are a few of the, ahem, hotspots. According to Utah Geological Survey (UGS) research conducted by Marshall Robinson, these ...

Massive range of underwater volcanoes heating the world’s oceans

“The massive mid-ocean ridge system is a continuous range of underwater volcanoes that wraps around the globe like seams on a baseball, stretching nearly 65,000 kilometers (40,390 miles),” according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). “The ridge system forms the longest and largest mountain range on Earth, winding its way between the continents,” NOAA continues. The majority of the system is underwater, with an average water depth to the top of the ridge of 2,500 meters (8,200 feet).” “The mid-ocean ridge is the most extensive chain of mountains on Earth, with more than 90 percent of the mountain range lying in the deep ocean. ...

Have you heard of it? If you're an ardent supporter of Linux on the desktop, you probably have. MXLinux doesn't have the brand recognition the other popular takes on the Linux distributions.
