(SRF/swissinfo.ch) Jaussi, an engineer and Swiss Air Force military pilot, founded the company Swiss Space Systems in 2013 in Payerne, canton Vaud. Through the firm, he is pursuing his childhood dream of becoming an astronaut. The company’s goal is to make space accessible by developing, manufacturing and operating suborbital spaceplanes. The SOAR (Sub-Orbital Re-Usable Aircraft) will be deployed in a first phase to put commercial satellites into orbit, with manned flights coming at a second stage. To make the project commercially viable, Swiss Space Systems ...

May 5 (Bloomberg) --- Bloomberg's "The Next Space Race" is a journey through the booming business of space exploration. The International Space Station is a near zero-gravity laboratory dedicated to scientific research. The end of NASA's shuttle program in 2011 left the world with only one way to get there, buy a seat from the Russians. NASA is holding a competition challenging private enterprise to build America's next spacecraft. Boeing, SpaceX, and Sierra Nevada are all multi-billion dollar aerospace companies competing to win the NASA contract that could cement dominance in the emerging space industry. TEHRAN (FNA)- University of Calgary researchers are the first to discover a previously unidentified cell population in the pericardial fluid found inside the sac around the heart. The discovery could lead to new treatments for patients with injured hearts. The study led by Drs. Paul Kubes, PhD, Justin Deniset, PhD and Paul Fedak, MD, PhD is published in the journal Immunity. The Kubes lab, in collaboration with the Fedak lab, found that a specific cell, a Gata6+ pericardial cavity macrophage, helps heal an injured heart in mice. The cell was discovered in the pericardial fluid (sac around the heart) of a mouse with heart injury. Working with Fedak, a cardiac surgeon and incoming Director ...

Change in How We Think About Gravity?

TEHRAN (FNA) Supercomputer simulations of galaxies have shown that Einstein's theory of General Relativity might not be the only way to explain how gravity works or how galaxies form. Physicists at Durham University, UK, simulated the cosmos using an alternative model for gravity -- f(R)-gravity, a so called Chameleon Theory. The resulting images produced by the simulation show that galaxies like our Milky Way could still form in the universe even with different laws of gravity. The findings show the viability of Chameleon Theory -- so called because it changes behaviour according to the environment -- as an alternative to General Relativity in explaining the formation of ...

According to a report by Channel News Asia (CNA), a new robot chef can prepare 80 bowls of laksa in an hour, therefore eliminating the need for human cooks, an ominous sign that robots will displace foodservice jobs in the next decade. Last Friday, the Singapore catering group Neo Group unveiled the robot chef, called Sophie, at a catering event held at the Singapore Management University School of Law. CNA published a video of the event, shows guest selecting their noodles and toppings, such as vegetables and seafood. Sophie then fries the noddles, adds shrimp, and at the end, pours in the laksa sauce. The entire cooking process takes about 45 seconds. Sophie is available for ...

Chromatin Stress Promotes Longevity

TEHRAN (FNA)- A newly described form of stress called chromatin architectural defect, or chromatin stress, triggers in cells a response that leads to a longer life. Researchers at Baylor College of Medicine and the Houston Methodist Research Institute report in the journal Science Advances that moderate chromatin stress levels set off a stress response in yeast, the tiny laboratory worm C. elegans, the fruit fly and mouse embryonic stem cells, and in yeast and C. elegans the response promotes longevity. The findings suggest that chromatin stress response and the longevity it mediates may be conserved in other organisms, opening the possibility of new ways to intervene in human aging and ...

We are living in a very interesting time, one in where we have a ‘ministry of truth’ that is quite Orwellian. This ministry of truth is deciding what’s real and what’s not for people, and they hold a tremendous amount of power and resources. Google is part of this ministry, and they are playing their part in censoring, demonetizing, and hiding information and platforms that does not suit the plans, agendas and the wants of the people that run Google and who are tied to. One of the most recent examples I wrote about was with regards to one of the top natural health/health awareness websites in the world, Mercola.com. TEHRAN (FNA)- When forecasting weather, meteorologists use a number of models and data sources to track shapes and movements of clouds that could indicate severe storms. However, with increasingly expanding weather data sets and looming deadlines, it is nearly impossible for them to monitor all storm formations -- especially smaller-scale ones -- in real time. Solar energy is the world’s cheapest and fastest-growing power source, but its rise is in danger of stalling, risking catastrophic climate change. Energy expert Varun Sivaram argues that realizing solar's potential will require innovation—creative financing, revolutionary technologies, and flexible energy systems. Dr. Sivaram is the Philip D. Reed Fellow for Science and Technology at the Council on Foreign Relations and author of the book, "Taming the Sun: Innovations to Harness Solar Energy and Power the Planet" (MIT Press, 2018), which the Financial Times called "the best available overview of the solar industry and a roadmap for how to achieve that brighter ...

Thomas Jam Pedersen, engineer and co-founder of Copenhagen Atomics, was skeptical at first upon discovering and reading about thorium energy, which is present everywhere in the world and could technically provide an inexpensive energy supply for everyone for thousand years. While the world is still heavily relying on fossil fuels, thorium energy and nuclear reactors, which reuse nuclear waste, are now part of the energy debate, proposing a pollution-free solution that could provide an unlimited supply of fuel for the next millennium. Thomas Jam Pedersen aims to build a thorium molten salt reactor in Copenhagen, and introduce thorium energy to the public eye. Thomas Jam Pedersen is ...

The rollout of 5G is another great example of how our federal health regulatory agencies have been completely compromised by big powerful corporations. You would think with more than 10,000 peer-reviewed studies showing clear danger with regards to electromagnetic radiation overdose, something our planet is experiencing, that these technologies would be required to go through some safety testing. The truth is, if they went through any type of safety testing there is no way they would be approved. The studies that have already been published show clear links to neuropsychiatric disorders, reduced sperm count, brain damage and cancer among other serious ailments. The science is quite clear. ...
