Did Bible writers believe the earth was flat? No, this false idea is not taught in Scripture! Post Date: 2005-11-23 16:56:52 by A K A Stone

Photo copyrighted. Courtesy of Eden Communications. No, this false idea is not taught in Scripture! Some Bible critics have claimed that Revelation 7:1 assumes a flat earth since the verse refers to angels standing at the "four corners" of the earth. Actually, the reference is to the cardinal directions: north, south, east, and west. Similar terminology is often used today when we speak of the sun's rising and setting, even though the earth, not the sun, is doing the moving. Bible writers used the "language of appearance," just as people always have. Without it, the intended message would be awkward at best and probably not understood clearly. [DD] In the Old ...
The irony of the intelligent believer [Full Thread] Post Date: 2005-11-23 09:53:17 by Starwind

Let me begin by assuring the reader that I am no genius, except by some outmoded and ill-chosen intelligence classifications. Genius is a word best reserved for the supremely gifted, great and original minds such as Mozart, Shakespeare and Babbage, not third-rate novelists with a prediliction for techo-dilettantism and blogosphere debate. And yet, I am perhaps reasonably well-suited to answer the question that has been asked many times of every intelligent and educated Christian by incredulous atheists. How can you - an intelligent individual with an expensive education - possibly take seriously what is at best archaic mythology? How can someone who is otherwise considered to be smart ...

An Illuminati Primer By Henry Makow Ph.D. November 19, 2005 Politics has banished Religion from public discourse but Religion still offers the best description of political reality. The essence of political struggle is actually spiritual, a cosmic battle between God (Good) and Satan (Evil) for the soul of man. The struggle is between an international financial elite dedicated to Satan, led by the Illuminati, and the remnants of humanity that still uphold God's Plan. The unsuspecting masses hang in the balance, inhabiting a fool's paradise like children. This struggle is not between nations, religions or between ideologies of Left or Right. Dear F4UM, While browsing the MEMRI website for more silly jihadi jokes, I stumbled upon this little jewel. Immediately, I thought of the opinions of serveral posters here. This imam or whatever they call moonbat "scholars", I found yet another fool quoting Roger Garoudy, the infamous holocaust denier. Well here goes, feel free to quote this guy liberally, because he's obviously very smart. At least I now know who was responsible for all the "fuzzy holocaust math" that's all the rage over in France. Evolution is stupid! Post Date: 2005-11-20 09:59:40 by A K A Stone

Evolution makes no sense at all. I just don't see how any intelligent person could believe such nonsense. I mean, have you ever seen an ape that could be taught to do algebra? No! Other than the most basic skills (which a dog can also be taught), an ape does not have the capacity to learn anywhere near the human level. Apes are dumb! You can say a dog is smart (and it might be), but it can't logic like a human being can. Furthermore, if we evolved from a lower species, then why is it that the apes didn't evolve in the evolutionary process? Come on folks, you don't need a PHD (post hole digger) to figure this out. Where are all those half man/half ape fossils which should be abundant in the ...

HOUSTON (AP) -- The leader of the largest branch of American Judaism blasted conservative religious activists in a speech Saturday, calling them "zealots" who claim a "monopoly on God" while promoting anti-gay policies akin to Adolf Hitler's. Rabbi Eric Yoffie, president of the liberal Union for Reform Judaism, said "religious right" leaders believe "unless you attend my church, accept my God and study my sacred text you cannot be a moral person." "What could be more bigoted than to claim that you have a monopoly on God?" he said during the movement's national assembly in Houston, which runs through Sunday. The audience of 5,000 responded ...

VATICAN CITY - The Vatican's chief astronomer said Friday that "intelligent design" isn't science and doesn't belong in science classrooms, the latest high-ranking Roman Catholic official to enter the evolution debate in the United States. The Rev. George Coyne, the Jesuit director of the Vatican Observatory, said placing intelligent design theory alongside that of evolution in school programs was "wrong" and was akin to mixing apples with oranges. "Intelligent design isn't science even though it pretends to be," the ANSA news agency quoted Coyne as saying on the sidelines of a conference in Florence. "If you want to teach it in schools, intelligent ...

If Christian fundamentalists are to be believed, America's invasion of Iraq and the consequent brutal slaughter of thousands of innocent civilians in that country are all part of a grand divine plan that will finally culminate in the 'second coming' of Jesus Christ. Establishing an empire that will extend all over the globe, Christ will rule like a powerful monarch, saving those who believe in him and dispatching non-believers, all non-Christians and non-conformist Christians, to everlasting perdition in hell. This is no childish nonsense for millions of Christian fundamentalists, who sincerely believe this to be predicted in the Bible. Not surprisingly, American Christian fundamentalists ...

What is a race? How did different skin colors come about? Are black people the result of a curse on Ham? Recommended Resources: * The Revised and Expanded Answers Book * Why Won't They Listen? * The Lie: Evolution * Refuting Evolution * Refuting Evolution 2 According to the Bible, all humans on earth today are descended from Noah and his wife, his three sons and their wives, and before that from Adam and Eve (Genesis 1-11). But today we have many different groups, often called races, with what seem to be greatly differing features. The most obvious of these is skin color. Many see this as a reason to doubt the Bibles record of history. They believe that the ...

Warning of a growing campaign to "Christianize America," the national director of the Anti-Defamation League is calling on Jewish organizations to join him in coordinating a communal strategy for confronting the political and cultural initiatives of religious conservative groups. In a speech last week at the ADL's national conference in New York, Abraham Foxman blasted several conservative organizations, including Focus on the Family, The American Family Association and the Family Research Council. He declared that such groups "had built infrastructures throughout the country... intend[ing] to 'Christianize' all aspects of American life, from the halls of government to the ...

CHELAN, Wash. (AP) - A high school has rescinded a rule that prohibited students from wearing rosary beads a week after administrators prohibited them as symbols of potential gang involvement. Officials at Chelan High School said they acted too hastily when they imposed the ban after a training session with a police officer, who warned rosary beads worn around the neck can be a sign of gang activity, particularly among Latinos. But several students challenged the new dress code, sparking debate among school officials, parents and members of the clergy. "We need to do a better job of communicating when we make changes," Principal Tim Berndt said. "I didn't go through all ...

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - A new Vatican document will bar from the priesthood practicing homosexuals, men whose gay tendencies are "deeply rooted," or who openly espouse a gay culture, a leading Italian newspaper reported on Friday. Il Giornale of Milan printed what it said were excerpts from the eagerly awaited document, expected to be issued at the end of this month. "The Church cannot admit to the priesthood those who practice homosexuality, have deeply rooted homosexual tendencies or those who support the so-called 'gay culture,"' the newspaper quoted the document as saying. In recent months there have been numerous leaks about the contents of the document but Il ...

JERUSALEM (AP) - Archaeologists digging at the purported biblical home of Goliath have unearthed a shard of pottery bearing an inscription of the Philistine's name, a find they claimed lends historical credence to the Bible's tale of David's battle with the giant. While the discovery is not definitive evidence of Goliath's existence, it does support the Bible's depiction of life at the time the battle was supposed to have occurred, said Dr. Aren Maeir, a professor at Bar-Ilan University and director of the excavation. ``What this means is that at the time there were people there named Goliath,'' he said. ``It shows us that David and Goliath's story reflects the cultural reality of the ...

Jewish porn's on the rise Post Date: 2005-11-10 00:25:57 by NOLAJBS

Jewish pornography questions the limits of assimilation. A man gets drunk and lays down with his two virgin daughters. A man secures permission from his two wives to lay down with his two slave girls. A woman disguises herself as a whore and lays down with her father-in-law. This is the original Jewish pornography, as found in the book of Genesis. But is it really Jewish Pornography? In typical Jewish fashion, the answer is yet another question: Would you masturbate to it?Probably not. Why? The Tanakhthe Old Testament and the Jewish Scripturesis full of incest and the taking of virgins. In a literature where the idea of "barely legal" has absolutely no meaning, ...

November 7, 2005 "What are You Doing? What Have You Become?" Israel as an Extension of American Empire By JEFF HALPER There are many tragic and self-destructive features of the Occupation for Israel itself. Although the country was founded on the "original sin" of exclusivity and the expulsion of the refugees, it nevertheless had (has?) the potential to develop into a normal, even progressive society. Many of the socialist principles that accompanied the Zionist program led in those directions. Israel always talked of democracy, even extending citizenship to its Arab population in 1948, even though the underlying concept of a "Jewish democracy," coupled ...
