Benedict XVI's Visit to Germany Is His First Foreign Trip as Pontiff COLOGNE, Germany, Aug. 19 -- Pope Benedict XVI, the first German pontiff in 500 years, said "the insane, racist ideology" of Nazism gave rise to the Holocaust and pledged to improve relations between Catholics and Jews during a historic visit Thursday to a synagogue, becoming only the second pope to enter a Jewish house of worship. Benedict, a one-time member of the Hitler Youth who deserted the German military during the waning days of World War II, paid tribute to an estimated 11,000 Jews from Cologne who died during the Holocaust during a visit to a synagogue that was destroyed by the Nazis in 1938 but ...

An Open Letter to Christians by Anthony Wade http://www.opednews.com August 12, 2005 My spirit grieves over this war, this administration and the division that has torn this country apart. I pray daily for the will of God to be done, knowing that he uses all things and people, good and evil, for his purposes. I have tried to express the truth in my writing, but I am constantly faced with people who do not wish to hear the truth. People who claim righteousness through Christ, through who all righteousness comes, yet who espouse most un-Christian opinions. Those are the people to whom I am speaking. How much is enough for you? How many children have to come home in a box before you stop ...
FR member walks out of church because his politics is more important than God’s word (Pastor talks about Cindy Sheehan) Post Date: 2005-08-14 14:41:12 by RickyJ

Please excuse me from bringing this over from FR. I just thought this post displayed crystal clear where the average freeper's allegiance lies when there is a choice between politics and the word of God confronting them. Well, I walked out of church this morning over the Cindy Sheehan situation (VANITY) Muself | 8/14/05 | Myself Posted on 08/14/2005 12:17:15 PM EDT by Chi-townChief I'll apologize in advance for this vanity post but I need to get this off my chest: At our 10:30 a.m. mass this morning, our pastor was the celebrant. Today's Gospel was the story of Christ's meeting with the Canaanite woman and the eventual healing of her daughter. Our pastor then followed with his homily ...

The summer calm before the autumn storm seems a good time to reflect on First Principles. God doesn't get much mention in the mass media or anywhere else for that matter. It seems He doesn't exist or if He does, He has been "discredited." Why is that? Could it be that Western culture is essentially illuminist i.e. one that wishes to substitute the rule of rich men for the rule of God? Who owns the mass media after all? Everything has a creator, from a muffin to the universe. Mankind also has a maker. The operating manual is in each soul. It's hard to comprehend but the world is literally run by satan-worshipers. They want to take away our belief in God as a prerequisite to ...

Feel good. Make money. Oh, and praise God. Andrew Buncombe joins the congregation Here are lights flashing, there is music pumping, there is dry ice fogging the air and everywhere you look there are people on their feet, clapping enthusiastically. There are people all around - to the front, to the sides, behind, above, below. People. More than you can count. People everywhere. Suddenly, amid all of this, on the stage in front, a full band emerges from a sunken riser, rocking out and swaying as the people clap and whoop. There is a choir dressed in purple and blue and they are clapping and swaying as well. It's 8.30 on a Sunday morning and we are here to praise the Lord. "We know ...

On the Roof of the World Books; Posted on: 2005-08-10 10:54:37 [ Printer friendly / Instant flyer ] Novel provides insight into religious feelings and the nature of the real and ideal worlds. by Revilo P. Oliver (pictured) OUR RACE'S religiosity has determined so much of our tragic history and today so afflicts us with a desperate crisis, that a study of religions necessarily holds an abiding interest for us. Some of my readers may wish to take an opportunity pleasantly to acquaint themselves with a major but little-known religion in a part of the world that is remote and was indeed inaccessible to White men before the end of the Nineteenth Century. Mipam is a thoroughly enjoyable novel ...
Falwell's 'Vote Christian' Criticized (by Abe Foxman) Post Date: 2005-08-10 00:30:24 by robin

LYNCHBURG, Va. - A Jewish organization is calling on the Rev. Jerry Falwell to retract a "vote Christian in 2008" statement made months ago in a letter raising money for his ministries. The criticism of Falwell appeared Monday on the Web site of the Anti-Defamation League, a group organized in 1913 to fight anti-Semitism. Falwell, founder of Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va., and Moral Majority, included with his mass fundraising letter for Falwell Ministries a sticker that reads, "I Vote Christian." Abraham Foxman, the Anti-Defamation League's national director, said Falwell's statements are "directly at odds with the American ideal and should be ...

Scientists consider the parchment manuscript to be one of the 50 copies of the Holy Scriptures ordered by the Roman emperor Constantine Scientists involved in digitization of the Codex Sinaiticus claimed that the copy of the famous manuscript would appear in the Internet in the nearest future. It may be possible that after publication of the ancient text all of the confessions will have to reconsider their dogmas. The fact is that Codex Sinaiticus includes a full text of the Bible. It contains the oldest version of the New Testament in the world as well as the Greek translation of the Old Testament, the Septuagint. The latter includes the books, which are now considered apocryphal. The ...
(Pat) Robertson Declares Fatwah On Scotus Post Date: 2005-08-09 20:54:37 by Zipporah

Americans watched in amazement yesterday when there appeard on their television screens the image of the High Mullah of the American religious extremists, Rev. Pat Robertson himself, as he prayed earnestly for more vacancies on the Supreme Court, presumably so that more people like John Roberts could be appointed in order to, by judicial activism, convert the entire nation to the Rev. Robertson's brand of Christianity. It is common knowledge that Supreme Court Justices are appointed for life and vacancies occur only upon the death or voluntary retirement of those who are presently serving. Now to "give the devil his due", Mr. Robertson did not pray for the death of any one of ...

Outspoken former Moral Majority founder, The Rev. Jerry Falwell, was the primary guest. Correspondent Bob Simon interviewed Falwell, asking his opinion on a variety of subjects related to Middle Eastern affairs. How he replied astonished many, infuriated many more. By weeks end his words would be published and republished in every major news venue around the world, most ...

Biblical Pool Uncovered in Jerusalem The reservoir served as a gathering place for Jews making pilgrimages and is said in the Gospel of John to be the site where Jesus cured a blind man. By Thomas H. Maugh II, Times Staff Writer August 9, 2005 Workers repairing a sewage pipe in the Old City of Jerusalem have discovered the biblical Pool of Siloam, a freshwater reservoir that was a major gathering place for ancient Jews making religious pilgrimages to the city and the reputed site where Jesus cured a man blind from birth, according to the Gospel of John. The pool was fed by the now famous Hezekiah's Tunnel and is "a much grander affair" than archeologists previously believed, ...

"This woman is a witch!" the men announced to the villagers, said Manjhi, 36. She said they tied her ankles together and locked her in a dark room. August 7, 2005 OK, CLASS, question for the day: Is the Pope Catholic? Oops, my bad. Let's start again: Are Mormons Christian? If you asked the protesters picketing the recent opening of a new Mormon temple in Newport Beach, the answer would be "no." "Have a nice day," yelled one demonstrator. ORLANDO, Fla. --The most divisive issue in American Protestantism will move to the forefront again this week as the 4.9 million-member Evangelical Lutheran Church in America takes a key vote on what role gays should have in the denomination. About 1,000 church members will meet beginning Monday in Orlando, where they'll decide whether to ordain gays who are not celibate and whether to bless same-sex unions. No split is imminent. Conservative Lutherans have planned a November meeting to consider forming an association of like-minded churches -- but within the ELCA. Still, few Lutherans believe church members can reconcile their conflicting views of what the Bible says about homosexuality, ...

Threat to Divest Is Church Tool in Israeli Fight By LAURIE GOODSTEIN The Presbyterian Church U.S.A. announced Friday that it would press four American corporations to stop providing military equipment and technology to Israel for use in the occupation of the Palestinian territories, and that if the companies did not comply, the church would take a vote to divest its stock in them. The companies - Caterpillar, Motorola, ITT Industries and United Technologies - were selected from a list of several dozen possibilities by a church investment committee that met Friday in Seattle. The Presbyterians accused these companies of selling helicopters, cellphones, night vision equipment and other ...

Detoxifying Self-Deception It can be proven Jesus Christ never existed, and your preacher can't prove 'He' did By John Kaminski skylax@comcast.net 8-3-5 Once you base your whole life striving on a desperate lie, and try to implement that lie, you instrument your own undoing. - Ernest Becker, The Denial of Death It's like taking candy away from a baby. ACLU Sues N.C. for Varied Courtroom Oaths By EMERY P. DALESIO, Associated Press WriterTue Jul 26,10:01 PM ET When witnesses are sworn in, the religious texts of non-Christian faiths should be allowed in North Carolina courts along with the Bible, the ACLU argued in lawsuit filed against the state Tuesday. Denying the use of other religious texts would violate the Constitution by favoring Christianity over religions, the American Civil Liberties Union of North Carolina said in its lawsuit. State law allows witnesses preparing to testify in court to take their oath either by laying a hand over a "Holy Scripture," by saying "so help me God" without the use of a ...

Quest Church makes race a matter of faithConference opens doors on hard-to-discuss topic By JOHN IWASAKI SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTER With its non-traditional style and younger, multiethnic membership, the Quest Church views itself as a congregation that never arrives but continually "emerges," moving toward a deeper understanding of God within a shifting culture. The Interbay church started as a predominantly Asian American group, but an influx of students from nearby Seattle Pacific University and other new members broadened the mix. Last summer, Quest Church held a series of classes to explore the intersection of faith and race, questioning why churches remain among ...

Now that imams in Britain and Canada are standing up and publicly condemning terrorist acts as anti-Muslim and against the teachings in the Qur'an, I wonder if pressure might be put on Christian leaders to take a similar stand. Contrary to what some might like to insist, Christianity is not the religion of "an eye for an eye" but it is the religion of Jesus, who refined those earlier directions and distilled the ten commandments into two. One was to "love thy neighbour as thyself." Pretty definitive isn't it? As is the edict of turning the other cheek. Jesus expected to be betrayed. He expected to be arrested by the authorities. There was no exhortations to prepare for ...
