LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Two newly ordained Roman Catholic priests are bucking traditions in the Archdiocese of Louisville. Wally Dant Jr., 66, a widower with five children, was ordained Saturday along with Jeffrey Hopper, 48, a former Episcopal priest and Catholic convert who is married. Hopper is the first married man to be ordained in the archdiocese, and both are the archdiocese's first grandfathers to enter the priesthood. "It's been a long journey. Just seeing it come together, it's a joy," said Hopper, who was allowed to become a priest under a Vatican-approved provision that lets former Episcopal priests be ordained and remain married. "We mostly think of ...

Bible Supports Homosexual Partnerships, Says Bishop By Jonathan Wynne-Jones (Filed: 28/05/2006) One of the country's most senior bishops has reignited the Church of England row over homosexuality by claiming that same-sex partnerships are supported by the Bible. The Rt Rev Richard Harries, the Bishop of Oxford, said that traditionalists in the Church needed to be "converted" to see that homosexual unions are confirmed by the scriptures. He reaffirmed his controversial belief that an openly gay man should be allowed to be appointed a bishop. His remarks have angered traditionalists and are set to rekindle the debate on homosexual "marriages" that has left the ...

Pope visits Auschwitz death camp The Pope had insisted on walking alone into the campPope Benedict XVI has visited the former Nazi death camp of Auschwitz in a symbolic end to his tour of Poland. The German-born Pope walked alone under the infamous "Arbeit Macht Frei" gate at the entrance to the camp, where he met survivors and said prayers. More than a million people, mostly Jews, were killed in the gas chambers of Auschwitz. The Pope had specifically insisted on visiting the camp. Earlier almost one million Poles gathered in Krakow as he led Mass. Pope Benedict was to have been driven everywhere during his visit, but the BBC's David Willey at Auschwitz said he wanted to ...

Madonna - Greed over God

In her unending quest for money, publicity and attention, Madonna has finally pushed the envelope right over of the edge of spiritual wisdom into the depths of wholesale depravity. She either doesn’t know, understand or even care that her lack of reverence for the sacred will turn the forces of righteousness operating in the universe against her, which means they may or may not manifest if she calls upon them in times of dire need. Madonna has brought this upon herself by diminishing one of the purest acts of divine love in the history of humanity. By appearing suspended on a mirrored cross in a crucifixion scence during one of her acts on her latest Confessions tour, she is opening ...

THE JEWS BEHIND DA VINCI CODE By Rev. Ted Pike Almost everyone realizes the Da Vinci Code is an unprecedented attack on Christianity and Jesus Christ. But most people don’t know that the media giants orchestrating this attack are Jewish. Sony Corporation, the force behind the Da Vinci Code movie, is the eye of this Jewish promotional octopus. In the late 1980s, Sony of Japan bought out Metro Goldwyn Meyer, Columbia Pictures, and United Artists. Former president of Jewish-owned CBS, Howard Stringer (a Jew), became second in command of Sony International. He is chair and CEO of Sony of America. 1 Sony of America is dominated by Jewish names. Emily Susskind is president. Robert ...

Madonna has defended her crucifixion stunt on her tour - saying Jesus wouldn't mind. Madonna will be wearing a crown of thorns while singing her hit "Live to Tell" on a giant cross during the gig. Madonna says the crucifixion stunt is part of an appeal to fans to help AIDS charities. During the song images of African kids orphaned by AIDS appeared on a screen. ...

Vatican fuels gay clergy debate By Peter Gould Religious affairs analyst Some fear the policy will discourage new applicants for the priesthoodThe Vatican's new policy on homosexuality and the priesthood seems certain to cause further controversy within the Catholic Church. Due to be officially released on Tuesday, the 1,300-word document was leaked a week ago, when an Italian news agency posted details on its website. Having had time to digest the new ruling, some Catholics say they are confused about what it really means. The issue has provoked a fierce debate in the United States, where revelations about paedophile priests led to a scandal that reverberated around the ...

History Shows, The United States Is Not Anti-Muslim

History Shows, The United States Is Not Anti-Muslim Why is it that the United States, despite its apparently reasonable intentions, is so successfully demonized by its adversaries in the Muslim world? According to this op-ed article from Pakistan's Dawn newspaper, the reasons are partly rooted in history, and partly due to the al-Qaeda 'Frankenstein' Washington created to battle the Soviets in Afghanistan. By Shahid M. Amin* May 18, 2006 IT is becoming increasingly apparent that the Islamic world is passing through a period of crisis, which is both external and internal. Externally, there is a growing distrust, which is developing into an actual or potential clash, between Muslim ...

Milestone: 5,000 Islamic Terror Attacks Since 9/11

May 24, 2006 Milestone: 5,000 Islamic Terror Attacks Since 9/11 The Religion of Peace reports that an important milestone has been reached in umma history: 5,000 terror attacks have now been carried out by jihadis since 9/11. But I'm sure it's just a few misunderstanderers of the otherwise peaceful and tolerant religion. Of course, The Religion of Peace keeps its tallies by monitoring English language news sources only. Therefore, the 5,000 figure is probably well below the actual number of terror attacks in the name of Allah and his ever-so-peaceful religion. Hat tip to Clarity & Resolve who have more, but who incorrectly cite the 5,000 number as the number of deaths. No, it's 5,00 ...

May 23, 2006 Meet the New Christian Conquistadors Ron Luce's Holy Warriors By SUNSARA TAYLOR "Do you care more about the pigs around you or God?" BattleCry leader Ron Luce asked the crowd of more than 17,000 youth gathered at Wachovia Spectrum Stadium in Philadelphia on Friday, May 12. No, this wasn't a metaphor. After reading a passage from Luke 15 that mentions pigs, he actually had a bunch of those big, oinking, pink, farm animals on stage with him! Get it, you either get with Luce's hateful, hyperpatriotic, woman-bashing, racist god, or you're a ... pig? And it became clear during the BattleCry rally, all the talk of battles, warriors and war is not metaphor either. ...

WICCA AND SATANISM Are they really totally unrelated as Wiccans claim? [Full Thread]

We have been receiving threats from Wicca of litigation and prophecies of our death. What is the problem? Answer: One thing alone-- Our contention that Satan is the lord and master and object of worship of Wicca. Wicca, an ancient offshoot of witchcraft and Druidism, claims they have nothing to do with Satan. So, here is the reason we say that Wicca's god is Satan, according to the King James Bible. Jesus speaks to the Pharisees, but He speaks to ALL men and women who reject His exclusive Lordship over them. John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in ...

Sexuality -- a make or break issue By John McNeil of Challenge Weekly, New Zealand Special to ASSIST News Service CHRISTCHURCH, NEW ZEALAND (ANS) -- The Archbishop of Sydney, Australia, the Most Rev Peter Jensen, has spelled out to New Zealand evangelicals why he believes human sexuality is correctly the issue at which Anglican churches should consider breaking fellowship. Archbishop Jensen told a national Latimer Fellowship conference in Christchurch that the real reason this is a make or break issue has to do with the teachings of the Bible. “The biblical ideal of sexual relationships specifically excludes same-sex relationships. The biblical teaching makes this a matter of ...

It's Closing Time By Jim Kirwan 5-22-6 To the New World Order - there is yet another power-point in the fabric of public and private life. This involves something that has always been a part of life for billions of people everywhere - but for Americans this was usually something personal and therefore something very private: That is no longer the case. This involves that delicate gossamer web of belief systems with that particular religious connotation that most people have about their lives. This could stem from deeply held traditions, or by conversion, but aside from the few nations where there is only one religious view permitted - this part of life at least for Americans, has mostly ...

By Martha Dixon BBC News Britain's Jewish population is in decline Jewish leaders in the UK are warning that British Jewry may die out if more is not done to try to combat intermarriage. Studies show between 30% and 50% of young British Jews now marry outside the religion. Britain's Jewish population is in serious decline. The last census for Britain showed that 266,000 people said they were Jewish - 0.5% of the population. Dwindling numbers But 50 years ago figures show there were at least double that number, with about 500,000 British Jews. "Intermarriage and assimilation are the biggest threat to British Jewry right ...

Why 'Jews for Jesus' Is Evil; "A Special Place In Hell"...

We were driving in the Galilee, waiting for a red light to change, when they came up to the car. Their smiles were engagingly open as they wished us a fine trip. Then they offered us the flyer. Jews for Jesus. Who says that evil can't be imported, and delivered, free of charge, direct to your car door? Don't get me wrong. The members of Jews for Jesus are pure souls. They are among the most wholesome, guileless, truly well-meaning, fundamentally lovely people you will ever meet. More's the pity, therefore, that there's a special place in hell just for them. I would like to begin by saying that I have nothing personal against these people. But that would be a lie. The reason is that, ...

May 22, 2006 Da Vinci II: Studio Lines Up The Next Blockbuster By Ben Hoyle A CONSPIRACY thriller set in and around the Vatican could be the next Dan Brown novel to receive the blockbuster treatment after the box-office triumph of The Da Vinci Code. Audiences have not been deterred by the film’s lukewarm reception from critics. It has taken more than $200 million (£106 million) in the past three days, enough to propel it into Hollywood’s top four opening weekends, according to Jeff Blake, the vice-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment. He said: “We are certainly exceeding all of our expectations and pointing towards being one of the top ten opening weekends of ...

WHY IS A MARRIED JESUS SO THREATENING TO THE CHURCH? [Full Thread]

WHY IS A MARRIED JESUS SO THREATENING TO THE CHURCH? Date: Thursday, 18 May 2006, 4:25 p.m. Is it because the Church has been exposed in a huge two thousand year long cover-up? Was Jesus not virginal and celibate after all? He called himself the "son of man", emphasizing his human side. His followers called him "Rabbi", and rabbis were married men. With families. (Infertility was a valid reason for divorce among the Jews in Jesus' time. It still is, among Muslims whose traditions are very similar.) So what, pray tell, is so shocking about Jesus being a married man? Does it really take away from his "divinity"? (Only for the brainwashed, surely.) Jesus' ...

In their attempts to dissociate themselves from Satanism, Wiccans have tended to distort their own history. Wicca and Satanism are indeed very distinct religious categories. But there are some intimate historical ties between the two, as even some Wiccan scholars are finally starting to admit. See, for example, Aidan Kelly's book Crafting the Art of Magic (pp.21-22, 25-26, and 176). Wicca is not "the Old Religion", though it does draw inspiration from various old religions. Wicca as we now know it is derived from 19th-century occult philosophy -- including literary Satanic philosophy, among others -- projected onto a non-Christian Goddess and God, plus some de-Christianized ...

He promised to bring miracles to Trinidad, but made no reference to the controversy over his previous visit in which the Maha Sabha had discovered that a man who was supposedly healed by Hinn had died soon after. Hinn simply said, quite ...

Surviving critical brickbats, threats of boycott from religious groups, and a kept-under-wraps promotional campaign, the screen adaptation of Dan Brown's hugely popular novel about dastardly shenanigans in the Roman Catholic Church debuted with an estimated $77 million in domestic ticket sales. Worldwide the Sony release is estimated to have grossed $224 million. "Incredible," exclaimed Rory Bruer, president of distribution for Sony Pictures. "Certainly for an adult movie -- and it kind of skews adult -- anything north of 50 [million dollars] is huge. . . . We always thought very possibly we could be in the 60 range, but when you hit 75 and end with $77 million it's quite ...

Little Blue Book No. 1637 Edited by E. Haldeman-Julius HALDEMAN-JULIUS PUBLICATIONS GIRARD, KANSAS Why am I an agnostic? Because I don't believe some of the things that other people say they believe. Where do you get your religion, anyway? I won't bother to discuss just what religion is, but I think a fair definition of religion could take account of two things, at least, immortality and God, and that both of them are based on some book, so practically all of it is a book. As I have neither the time nor the learning to discuss every religious book on earth, and as I live in Chicago, I am interested in the Christian religion. So I will discuss the book that deals with the Christian ...

Across the United States, religious activists are organizing to establish an American theocracy. A frightening look inside the growing right-wing movement. May. 12, 2006 | A teenage modern dance troupe dressed all in black took their places on the stage of the First Baptist Church of Pleasant Grove, a suburb of Birmingham, Alabama. Two dancers, donning black overcoats, crossed their arms menacingly. As a Christian pop ballad swelled on the speakers, a boy wearing judicial robes walked out. Holding a Ten Commandments tablet that seemed to be made of cardboard, he was playing former Alabama Supreme Court justice Roy Moore. The trench-coated thugs approached him, miming a violent rebuke and ...
