Detoxifying Self-Deception It can be proven Jesus Christ never existed, and your preacher can't prove 'He' did By John Kaminski skylax@comcast.net 8-3-5 Once you base your whole life striving on a desperate lie, and try to implement that lie, you instrument your own undoing. - Ernest Becker, The Denial of Death It's like taking candy away from a baby. The candy's no good for the kid, but it will take him many years and much learning to realize the favor you did for him. In the meantime he'll whine about how mean you were and how wrong it was to do that. But when he's a healthy adult, because of the very thing you took away, he may actually develop the judgment and wisdom to thank ...

THE MACHINE VERSUS THE CHURCH: MAN'S WAY VERSUS GOD'S WAY June 27, 2005 by: S.R. Shearer "It is intolerable to us that a contrary thought should exist anywhere in the world, however secret and powerless it may be. Even in the instant of death we cannot permit any deviation. In the old days the dissenter walked to the stake still a dissenter, proclaiming his dissension, exulting in it. Even the victim of the Russian purges could carry his resistance with him locked up in his skull as he walked down the passage waiting for the bullet. But we make the brain perfect before we blow it out." - George Orwell INTRODUTION Imagine a colossal Machine that moves about the earth gobbling ...

ACLU Sues N.C. for Varied Courtroom Oaths By EMERY P. DALESIO, Associated Press WriterTue Jul 26,10:01 PM ET When witnesses are sworn in, the religious texts of non-Christian faiths should be allowed in North Carolina courts along with the Bible, the ACLU argued in lawsuit filed against the state Tuesday. Denying the use of other religious texts would violate the Constitution by favoring Christianity over religions, the American Civil Liberties Union of North Carolina said in its lawsuit. State law allows witnesses preparing to testify in court to take their oath either by laying a hand over a "Holy Scripture," by saying "so help me God" without the use of a ...

Quest Church makes race a matter of faithConference opens doors on hard-to-discuss topic By JOHN IWASAKI SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTER With its non-traditional style and younger, multiethnic membership, the Quest Church views itself as a congregation that never arrives but continually "emerges," moving toward a deeper understanding of God within a shifting culture. The Interbay church started as a predominantly Asian American group, but an influx of students from nearby Seattle Pacific University and other new members broadened the mix. Last summer, Quest Church held a series of classes to explore the intersection of faith and race, questioning why churches remain among ...

Who's taking blame for Christian violence? Post Date: 2005-07-28 09:43:02 by Zipporah

Now that imams in Britain and Canada are standing up and publicly condemning terrorist acts as anti-Muslim and against the teachings in the Qur'an, I wonder if pressure might be put on Christian leaders to take a similar stand. Contrary to what some might like to insist, Christianity is not the religion of "an eye for an eye" but it is the religion of Jesus, who refined those earlier directions and distilled the ten commandments into two. One was to "love thy neighbour as thyself." Pretty definitive isn't it? As is the edict of turning the other cheek. Jesus expected to be betrayed. He expected to be arrested by the authorities. There was no exhortations to prepare for ...

Pope's Prayer Omits Israel, and Words Fly Post Date: 2005-07-26 09:13:08 by Arete

ROME, July 25 - Israel and the Vatican traded sharp words on Monday over a Sunday sermon in which the new pope, Benedict XVI, prayed that God would stop the "murderous hand" of terrorists who had struck in "Egypt, Turkey, Iraq, Great Britain." Israel summoned the Vatican ambassador there to explain why Pope Benedict had failed to mention attacks against Jews. An Israeli Foreign Ministry statement charged that the pope, in a brief sermon delivered from his vacation retreat in the Italian Alps, had "deliberately" left out a reference to a July 12 suicide bombing in Netanya that killed five people. "We expected that the new pope, who on taking office ...
Israel Angry at Pope Over Terror Comments Post Date: 2005-07-25 23:13:18 by 1776

Pope Benedict XVI faced the first major conflict of his 3-month-old papacy when Israel summoned the Vatican envoy Monday to express outrage that the pope "deliberately failed" to condemn terrorist attacks against Israelis. The pontiff also said in separate comments Monday that he didn't see any anti-Christian motive in recent attacks blamed on Muslim extremists and urged dialogue with the best elements of Islam. The German-born Benedict, who has consistently reached out to Jews since assuming the papacy, was criticized by Israel for remarks Sunday from his Alpine vacation retreat in northwestern Italy. He prayed for God to stop the "murderous hand" of terrorists and ...

7/20/2005 Good Letter from a Jewish Reader Posted under: General @ 7:46 pm Jerusalem Post rendition of Haman and Hamans Ears in a story for Children Interesting letter with a little correction I received the following letter after I posted my response to the young Jewish intellectual. I am impressed with the fact that a number of Jews are very cognizant of the hypocrisies of Jewish supremacism. Here is one who is honest and I respect him for it. There is only one slight error in his letter, he says that at Purim, Jews dont eat cookies in the shape of their enemys ears, but in the shape of hats. Actually, some Jews in the Yiddish Tradition call ...

A federal court trial, alleging that the Orthodox Jewish owners of a Pico-Robertson building evicted a tenant because he shared his apartment with a non-Jew, is scheduled to open in Los Angeles next week. The suit by Lawrence Chaim Stein alleges that he was evicted in 2004 by the board of Torat Hayim, a nonprofit that is best known for its Pico-Robertson school and synagogue, but that also manages a handful of apartments. Steins central piece of evidence in the suit is a voice mail left on his phone answering machine by Michael Braum, one of the suits defendants and the pro bono manager of the apartment in the 8800 block of Alcott Street. Talmudic Hate Speech: Defended by Yair Sheleg Deconstructed by Michael A. Hoffman II A dark reminder of the Dark Ages By Yair Sheleg Haaretz (Israeli newspaper) June 28, 2005 (An analysis by Michael A. Hoffman II immediately follows this article) Russia's examination of the Kitzur Shulhan Arukh - the abbreviated codex of Jewish law - to ascertain whether it constitutes racist incitement gave Prof. Yisrael Yaakov Yuval, who researches Jewish-Christian relations in the Middle Ages, the feeling of a "return to the 13th century." Like Yuval, others who know Jewish history could only be astounded by the sensation that the Dark Ages are making a comeback. The probe of a ...

LONDON, JULY 16, 2005 (Zenit) - The long-awaited constitution now being prepared in Iraq could effectively turn the country into an Islamist state, warns the auxiliary bishop of Baghdad. In a letter presented July 14 to the British branch of the Catholic charity Aid to the Church in Need (ACN), Bishop Andraos Abouna expressed his concerns that this new constitution could also include automatic discrimination against non-Muslims. Is the 'Rapture' a rupture? Post Date: 2005-07-21 10:56:42 by robin

July 16, 2005Is the "Rapture" of Evangelical Christianity really a rupture from biblical truth? For thousands of years certain Christians have been predicting the end times. Armageddon and the Second Coming were just around the cornerbut not before the rise of the Antichrist and seven years of battle. These Christians also believe the "Rapture" the Bible supposedly spoke of would allow certain true believers to be swept up to heaven to watch the end times, like the War in Iraq from their living room TVs.Yet scholars say the word ""Rapture"" is not anywhere in the Bible. So the first rupture is from the reality of the good book. In fact, the ...

BERLIN (CP) - German prosecutors said Tuesday they have charged white supremacist Ernst Zundel with inciting racial hatred, four months after he was deported from Canada. German authorities accuse Zundel of decades of anti-Semitic activities, including repeated denials of the Holocaust - a crime in Germany - in documents and on the Internet. Zundel is "known internationally as a leader of the right-wing scene," prosecutors in the southwestern city of Mannheim said Tuesday in a statement listing 14 examples of alleged incitement. It was unclear when he might face a trial, which Jewish leaders hope will spread awareness of the Holocaust. Zundel was arrested in March on his ...

The e-mail message begins with these lines: "14th July, 2005 To All Parliamentarians: As a Hasidic Jew, I was very happy that so many British were killed in the London bomb attacks on July 7. I hope that many of the survivors were blinded, lost limbs, and will suffer for the rest of their lives." The letter goes on to portray the bombings as retribution ...

THE STUMBLING BLOCK By Israel Adam Shamir In the Return of the King, the Oscar-studded film based on the Tolkien's fantasy, there is a touching and inspiring moment: at the lowest ebb of struggle, when the Sauron hordes pour in through the breached gates of Gondor, horns announce the arrival of the relieving force. Rohan is coming, and the looting Orks retreat from the City in disarray. Such a rescue force came to the embattled people of the Middle East in the unexpected form of a film. This inspired creation of Mel Gibson broke the dangerous and immoral alliance between devout American Christians and their Jewish shepherds. Mel Gibson and his Passion of Christ may well have advanced ...

Understanding Evangelical's Prophesy of War and the End Times: finding Hope in the Era of the Neo-CrusadesIs America's warring in the Middle East politically or religiously motivated? Some now argue the war is between the Christian Right and its Bush-man in the White house, versus the forces of Islam. In fact this is ethnically close to being true, but not quite. War is a political expedient, and the "Christian Right" is its enabler, not the reverse. War is the politician's return ticket to office, the only sure answer to full employment. In the 11th Century, the landed gentry and their politicians looked to the Catholic Church for its ennoblement of the 11 Crusades ending with ...

Bedouin Robber Leads Archaeologist to Fragments of Biblical Scroll By Danielle Haas Associated Press Writer Published: Jul 15, 2005 JERUSALEM (AP) - A secretive encounter with a Bedouin robber in a desert valley led to what an Israeli archaeologist hailed Friday as one of the most important biblical finds from the region in a half century. The discovery of two fragments from a nearly 2,000-year-old parchment scroll give rise to hope that the Judean Desert may yield more treasures, said Professor Chanan Eshel, an archaeologist from Tel Aviv's Bar Ilan University. The two small pieces of brown animal skin, inscribed in Hebrew with verses from the Book of Leviticus, are from ...

Oliver (pictured with his wife Grace in 1990) WE DO NOT KNOW when or how or by whom the notion of a life after death was invented. All mammals instinctively fear death, but if they escape their natural enemies and survive to senility, they seem to acquiesce in a quiet extinction of their enfeebled consciousness. RACINE, Wis. Two government lawyers knocked at the door of a brick, ranch-style house here two years ago and, getting no answer, wandered around back. There they found an old man sitting alone on a patio chair. He wore a cap to shield himself from the afternoon sun. He noticed that one of the lawyers was pregnant, and he cleaned off another chair. Sit down, he said. Josias Kumpf had been living in the United States for nearly half a century. He had been an American citizen for 40 years. He had married, raised five children and worked for 35 years stuffing sausage at a factory in Chicago. Retired and a widower, his health failing, he was living at his daughter's home in Racine. Blasphemy against Judaism is Criminal Offense in "Enlightened" Europe Much scorn is poured on Muslims for using or seeking "blasphemy" laws to protect the Koran or the reputation of Mohammed. Western intellectuals have had a field day looking down on "primitive" Muslims in Holland, France, Britain, Iran and Saudi Arabia who are so "unenlightened" concerning "elementary rights of free speech." Yet in Europe, Judaism's sacred "Shoah" ("Holocaust") theology is judicially protected from revisionist historians and irreverent satirists who dare to doubt any aspect of it, and not a peep of protest is heard from western ...

The family of Assaf Deri, an Israeli shot and killed by police in California, has filed a $51 million wrongful death claim against the Burbank Police Department, alleging Deri was killed because of his Middle Eastern appearance. The claim, which is a precursor to a lawsuit, was filed on June 24 by the family living in Israel. Deri, 25, was shot and killed by undercover officers last year after his vehicle was boxed in by police in an alley, the claim said. The claim alleged that Deri was killed because of his appearance and because he was wrongfully perceived to be Muslim. Police officials previously have said that officers opened fire after Deri drove his car into narcotics Detective ...
