Will Sodom and Gomorrah will be resurrected?

Do Jesus’ words at Matthew 11:24 mean that those whom Jehovah destroyed by fire in Sodom and Gomorrah will be resurrected? In conscientiously responding to this question over the years, we have discussed Jesus’ words at Matthew 10:14, 15; 11:20-24; and Luke 10:13-15. A recent review of this suggests that these verses need not be taken as statements about the future for the people of Sodom/Gomorrah. Before we examine other Bible comments about the people destroyed in those cities, let us consider what Jesus said. While in Galilee, Jesus “reproach[ed] the cities in which most of his powerful works had taken place, because they did not repent.” He named three: “Woe ...

Mohammed on Stoning Adulterers

In his article on how the Greco-Roman heritage impacted Christianity but not Islam, Fjordman has mentioned the different treatment of adulterers in the two religions. He correctly relates how Jewish law prescribed death by stoning as punishment for adultery (Deut.22:19-23), how Jesus overruled this law, how the Jews gradually let it lapse, and how Mohammed chose to uphold it, as his more zealous followers do until today. But the contrast is even sharper than this. In the Hadith collection of Al-Muslim (4211 and 4214), Mohammed’s intervention in a dispute over the punishment of an adulterous couple is described. The Jewish couple was brought before Mohammed, who, though an immigrant, ...

Are Police Sent by God?

Are Police Sent by God? Throughout history, oppressive regimes have tried to suppress or outlaw the Bible. In the "land of the free," the adversary is more devious. Bible paraphrases change the Truth of God into lies to support the State's agenda. (See Romans 1:25) The words chosen are not Bible words, they are statists' words. The changes are subtle, but the effects are dramatic. For instance, in the Living Bible paraphrase of Romans 13, we are told that if we refuse to obey the "law of the land," we are refusing to obey God. This is just another clever means of persuading Christians to take up citizenship with the kingdoms of the world. The Living Bible ...

The Truth About Church Incorporation

Is a Church required to Incorporate under the Government? According to the Internal Revenue Code, "a church, its integrated auxiliaries, and conventions and associations of the church are excluded from taxation." United States Code, Title 26, § 508(c)(1)(A). Section 508(c) of the Internal Revenue Code provides that churches are not required to apply for recognition of Section 501(c)(3) status in order to be exempt from federal taxation or to receive tax deductible contributions. Churches are automatically exempt from Federal income tax, and contributions to churches are deductible by donors under section 170. Elsewhere, the IRS states: "Although a church, its ...

Techno-Paganism

Technopaganism is an umbrella term that characterizes several different beliefs and practices in Neopaganism (which includes faiths such as Wicca and Neo-druidry) in reference to the place of technology in Neopagan practice. It is somewhat contrasting with the general ethos of paganism which has an emphasis on the natural world. Technopaganism has a number of distinct definitions found in various discourse: * the use of modern-day devices in magical ritual. This can include the substitution of technology for traditional magical tools, such as using their oven for a hearth, keeping a "Disk of Shadows" instead of a "Book of Shadows", and using a laser pointer as a ...

What is the story in the Bible; i.e., what is the Bible REALLY about?

What is the story in the Bible; i.e., what is the Bible REALLY about? And then, speaking of which we were speaking of, I decided that I should write a brief description out so that any questions you have could be properly addressed, as opposed to simply being dressed….. (This was written for a couple of friends of mine, but perhaps it is worth sharing with others! You be the judge of that, please.) Now, where to begin…. Oh, RIGHT!! At the BEGINNING! Genesis. What we are told in the first book of the Bible, Genesis, besides the general information about the creation of the universe, the earth, and man, is about a rebellion against Jehovah, and how He rules the universe He ...

Monotheism vs. Polytheism

An Answer to the Chaos of the Modern World Chronicles(A Magazine of American Culture), April 1996 Monotheism vs. Polytheism by Alain de Benoist Introduction and translation by Tomislav Sunic Can we still conceive of the revival of pagan sensibility in an age so profoundly saturated by Judeo-Christian monotheism and so ardently adhering to the tenets of liberal democracy? In popular parlance the very word "paganism" may incite some to derision and laughter. Who, after all, wants to be associated with witches and witchcraft, with sorcery and black magic? Worshiping animals or plants, or chanting hymns to Wotan or Zeus, in an epoch of cable television and "smart weapons," ...

Death — Why Do We Die?

Death — Why Do We Die? Definition: The ceasing of all functions of life. After breathing, heartbeat, and brain activity stop, the life-force gradually ceases to function in body cells. Death is the opposite of life. Was man created by God to die? On the contrary, Jehovah warned Adam against disobedience, which would lead to death. (Gen. 2:17) Later, God warned Israel against conduct that would lead even to premature death for them. (Ezek. 18:31) In time he sent his Son to die on behalf of mankind so that those who would put faith in this provision might enjoy everlasting life.—John 3:16, 36. Psalm 90:10 says that the usual human life span is 70 or 80 years. That was true when ...

Dates – Chronology of the Bible Definition: Dates mark the time at which events occur. The Bible expresses dates in relation to the lifetime of individuals, the period during which certain rulers were in office, or other notable events. It contains the only complete chronology reaching back to the time of Adam’s creation. Bible chronology also pinpointed in advance the time when certain important events in the fulfillment of God’s purpose would take place. The Gregorian calendar, which is now popular in much of the world, did not come into use until 1582. In secular sources there is disagreement on dates given for events in ancient history. However, certain key dates, such ...

Getting a Permanent Hold on Life In this series of articles on the Bible book of Revelation, we have come to chapter 20, verses 7 to 10. The preceding six verses deal briefly with the thousand-year reign of Christ, during which the earth will be ruled by his kingdom without interference from Satanic influence. This rule of the promised Seed to bless all families of the earth has the purpose of eventually bringing real life—in the full, in its perfection—to mankind. Verses 7 to 10, discussed in this article, show a marvelous universal purpose that God has in connection with those on earth at that time. CAN you feel comfortable and secure in your home if it is heavily mortgaged, ...

Bible Definition: Jehovah God’s written Word to humankind. He used some 40 human secretaries over a period of 16 centuries to record it, but God himself actively directed the writing by his spirit. Thus it is inspired by God. A large portion of the record is made up of actual pronouncements made by Jehovah and details as to the teachings and activities of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. In these we find statements of God’s requirements for his servants and what he will do to bring his grand purpose for the earth to completion. To deepen our appreciation for these things, Jehovah also preserved in the Bible a record demonstrating what happens when individuals and nations listen to ...

Baptism Definition: The word “baptize” comes from the Greek ba•pti´zein, meaning “to dip, to plunge.” (A Greek-English Lexicon, by Liddell and Scott) Christian water baptism is an outward symbol that the one being baptized has made a complete, unreserved, and unconditional dedication through Jesus Christ to do the will of Jehovah God. The Scriptures also refer to John’s baptism, baptism with holy spirit, and baptism with fire, among others. Do persons who really believe God’s Word hold back from being baptized? Matt. 28:19, 20: “Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the ...

Jehovah's Witnesses & Paedophilia

The situation amongst Jehovah’s Witnesses regarding paedophiles is reminiscent of that of the Catholic Church. Whilst the majority of Witnesses abhor paedophilia and the Watchtower actively denounces child abuse, archaic and self-serving Watchtower policies have facilitated this very practice amongst Jehovah’s Witnesses. The result has been a string of successful court cases against the Watchtower Society in recent years. The Watchtower Society has come in for tremendous criticism globally for its stance on paedophilia and been the subject of numerous media reports. http://www.silentlambs.com lists numerous examples that highlight the extent of child abuse amongst Jehovah’s ...

Jehovah's Witnesses - Is It Truth?

This site contains many pages discussing Watchtower doctrine, changed teachings and failed date predictions. For those without the time or patience to wade through it all, here is a brief thought to dwell on: "For over 130 years, the Watchtower has stated that "the end" is just a few years away. Was that the truth?" Whilst fear-inducing warnings about the imminence of Armageddon may be motivational, the light of history allows reality to shine. Consider the following Watchtower statements that for a certainty the end would come in 1914, in 1925, within the twentieth century; and that these predictions were from Jehovah himself. "We have no doubt whatever in ...

People chose to associate with a religious organization for its ability to: 1. Focus attention on God and his everlasting purposes 2. Outline moral guidelines 3. Provide community The Watchtower Society has benefited the lives of many people by achieving the above goals in their lives. Jehovah's Witnesses are generally sincere, clean living people that wish to serve God. Many are well meaning and devote their lives to serving Jehovah in the manner prescribed by the Watchtower Society, attending several meetings and preaching every week. Being a Jehovah's Witness does not create the same level of problems for individuals or society that certain extremist organizations and cults ...

Jehovah Makes Peace, Creates Evil

Jehovah Makes Peace, Creates Evil “I FORM the light, and create darkness; I make peace, and create evil; I am Jehovah, that doeth all these things.” (Isa. 45:7, AS) This reference to Jehovah’s creating darkness and evil has been gleefully seized upon by skeptics, atheists and other critics of the Bible to support their position that it is not the inspired Word of God but merely a collection of ancient writings of a primitive people. However, their prejudice, doubtless begotten by a lurking suspicion that their position is not as strong as they would like it to be, has blinded them to a reasonable consideration of this text as well as of the rest of the Bible. Instead of ...

Hell Definition: The word “hell” is found in many Bible translations. In the same verses other translations read “the grave,” “the world of the dead,” and so forth. Other Bibles simply transliterate the original-language words that are sometimes rendered “hell”; that is, they express them with the letters of our alphabet but leave the words untranslated. What are those words? The Hebrew she’ohl´ and its Greek equivalent hai´des, which refer, not to an individual burial place, but to the common grave of dead mankind; also the Greek ge´en•na, which is used as a symbol of eternal destruction. However, both in Christendom and ...

Is Hell Hot?

Is Hell Hot? Pagan religions are noted for teaching red-hot hells. The ancient Egyptians, Babylonians, Phoenicians, Persians, Grecians and Hindus taught flaming hells. The Buddhists teach a hell wherein people cook and sizzle in blazing kettles. Is the Bible hell as hot as the pagans paint theirs? Here is the answer. PEOPLE often forget they have brains when it comes to a topic such as hell. Oh, many persons will ponder on financial or other matters, but when hell is the subject they seem to prefer that someone else do the thinking. They may even push all hope of reasoning aside and declare, as one hell-fire believer did, that if he did not think the Bible taught a literal, red-hot, ...

Armageddon Definition: The Greek Har Ma•ge•don´, taken from Hebrew and rendered “Armageddon” by many translators, means “Mountain of Megiddo,” or “Mountain of Assembly of Troops.” The Bible associates the name, not with a nuclear holocaust, but with the coming universal “war of the great day of God the Almighty.” (Rev. 16:14, 16) This name is applied specifically to “the place [Greek, to´pon; that is, condition or situation]” to which earth’s political rulers are being gathered in opposition to Jehovah and his Kingdom by Jesus Christ. Such opposition will be shown by global action against Jehovah’s servants ...

Antichrist Definition: Antichrist means against or instead of Christ. The term applies to all who deny what the Bible says about Jesus Christ, all who oppose his Kingdom, and all who mistreat his followers. It also includes individuals, organizations, and nations that falsely claim to represent Christ or that improperly ascribe to themselves the role of Messiah. Does the Bible refer to only one antichrist? 1 John 2:18: “Young children, it is the last hour, and, just as you have heard that antichrist is coming, even now there have come to be many antichrists; from which fact we gain the knowledge that it is the last hour.” 2 John 7: “Many deceivers have gone forth into the ...

Apostolic Succession Definition: The doctrine that the 12 apostles have successors to whom authority has been passed by divine appointment. In the Roman Catholic Church, the bishops as a group are said to be successors of the apostles, and the pope is claimed to be the successor of Peter. It is maintained that the Roman pontiffs come immediately after, occupy the position and perform the functions of Peter, to whom Christ is said to have given primacy of authority over the whole Church. Not a Bible teaching. Was Peter the “rock” on which the church was built? Matt. 16:18, JB: “I now say to you: You are Peter and on this rock I will build my Church. And the gates of the ...

Babylon the Great Definition: The world empire of false religion, embracing all religions whose teachings and practices do not conform to the true worship of Jehovah, the only true God. Following the Flood of Noah’s day, false religion had its beginning at Babel (later known as Babylon). (Gen. 10:8-10; 11:4-9) In time, Babylonish religious beliefs and practices spread to many lands. So Babylon the Great became a fitting name for false religion as a whole. What evidence points to the identity of Babylon the Great, referred to in Revelation? It could not be the ancient city of Babylon. Revelation was written at the end of the first century C.E. and describes events that would reach ...

Trinity – True or False – ACCORDING TO THE BIBLE!! Definition: The central doctrine of religions of Christendom. According to the Athanasian Creed, there are three divine Persons (the Father, the Son, the Holy Ghost), each said to be eternal, each said to be almighty, none greater or less than another, each said to be God, and yet together being but one God. Other statements of the dogma emphasize that these three “Persons” are not separate and distinct individuals but are three modes in which the divine essence exists. Thus some Trinitarians emphasize their belief that Jesus Christ is God, or that Jesus and the Holy Ghost are Jehovah. Not a Bible teaching. What is the ...

Identifying “the Man of Lawlessness" “The lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will do away with.”—2 THESSALONIANS 2:8. WE LIVE in an era of lawlessness. It is a worldwide phenomenon. Everywhere there is fear of lawless predators and the threat they present to our person and property. Yet, there is a far more insidious lawless element that has been at work for many centuries. In the Bible it is called “the man of lawlessness.” 2 It is vital that we identify this man of lawlessness. Why? Because he is intent on undermining our good standing with God and our hope of eternal life. How? By getting us to abandon the truth and to believe ...
