Israel and Dispensationalism - Dispensationalist Dementia
Post Date: 2009-01-31 08:08:02 by AllTheKings'HorsesWontDoIt

Israel and Dispensationalism By Greg Loren Durand Common Law Copyright (1995) Many Christians believe that there are three separate bodies in the world today: the Church, Israel, and the Gentiles. The Bible, however, is clear that God has had only one people throughout redemptive history which He has adopted as His Church (as they are called in the New Testament), or as the people of God (as they are called in the Old Testament). The modern distinction that is made between the Christian Church and Israel is, by and large, the product of the Dispensational system which originated in the last century with J.N. Darby and C.I. Scofield. It is perpetuated today in the writings of Hal Lindsey, ...

Submission to Authority That Is Rewarding

Submission to Authority That Is Rewarding THERE can be wisdom in submission, in showing subordination to existing arrangements. Whatever apparent appeal it might have, total independence is undesirable, unrealistic. No one person on earth can do everything or know everything. Just as we are dependent on air, sun, food and water for life, so, too, we need other persons and what they can do for us if we are to benefit from life and to enjoy it. 2 Governmental arrangements, employer-employee relationships, family ties, association with the Christian congregation, our very living among people, all impose on us certain duties. We owe something in return for what we receive from others. Of ...

CAESAR (Cae82;sar). A Roman family name that became a title. In 46 B.C.E., Gaius Julius Caesar was appointed dictator of Rome for ten years, but he was murdered in 44 B.C.E. Caesar was the name of his family (Gaius being his personal name and Julius that of his clan or house). The family name passed to his adopted son and ultimate successor Gaius Julius Caesar Octavianus (Octavian). Octavian established his rulership over the realm in 31 B.C.E., and in 27 B.C.E. he was accorded the title of Augustus by the Roman Senate, becoming known as Caesar Augustus.—Lu 2:1-7. Thereafter, the next four Roman emperors (Tiberius, Gaius [Caligula], Claudius, and Nero) laid claim ...

SUPERIOR AUTHORITIES An expression at Romans 13:1 designating human governmental authorities. That scripture has been variously rendered: “Let every soul be in subjection to the superior authorities, for there is no authority except by God; the existing authorities stand placed in their relative positions by God.” (NW) “Let every subject be obedient to the ruling authorities, for there is no authority not under God’s control, and under His control the existing authorities have been constituted.” (We) “Everyone must obey the state authorities, for no authority exists without God’s permission, and the existing authorities have been put there by ...

“Keep Bearing Much Fruit”

“Keep Bearing Much Fruit” “Keep bearing much fruit and prove yourselves my disciples.”—JOHN 15:8. IT WAS the evening before his death. Jesus had taken ample time to encourage his apostles with a heart-to-heart talk. By now, it must have been past midnight, but Jesus, moved by love for his close friends, continued speaking. Then, in the midst of his conversation, he reminded them of one more requirement they needed to meet to remain his disciples. He said: “My Father is glorified in this, that you keep bearing much fruit and prove yourselves my disciples.” (John 15:8) Do we today meet this requirement of discipleship? What does it mean to be “bearing ...

Paying Back Caesar’s Things to Caesar [Full Thread]

Paying Back Caesar’s Things to Caesar “Render to all their dues.”—ROMANS 13:7. ACCORDING to Jesus, there are things we owe to God and things we owe to Caesar, or the State. Jesus said: “Pay back Caesar’s things to Caesar, but God’s things to God.” In these few words, he confounded his enemies and neatly summed up the balanced attitude we must have in our relationship with God and in our dealings with the State. No wonder that his listeners “began to marvel at him”!—Mark 12:17. 2 Of course, the first concern of Jehovah’s servants is that they pay back God’s things to God. (Psalm 116:12-14) In doing so, however, they do not ...

Get the Whole Truth!

Get the Whole Truth! “I NEVER saw that name in my Bible,” remarked Francisco. The name Jehovah had just come up in a discussion with one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. True, he could not have seen the divine name in his Bible, a 1969 edition of the Portuguese Almeida version. The name Jehovah does not appear in it. As a Brazilian Catholic, Francisco regularly attends Mass on Sundays and enjoys reading the Bible in his home. But the name Jehovah intrigued him. Who Is God? The next week, the Witness brought him another edition of the Almeida version. They compared the two editions at Psalm 83:18. And what did they find? Why, in that 1966 edition, this text ...

God

God Definition: The Supreme Being, whose distinctive name is Jehovah. The Hebrew language uses terms for “God” that convey the idea of strength, also of majesty, dignity, and excellence. In contrast to the true God, there are false gods. Some of these have set themselves up as gods; others have been made objects of worship by those who serve them. Are there sound reasons for believing in God? Ps. 19:1: “The heavens are declaring the glory of God; and of the work of his hands the expanse is telling.” Ps. 104:24: “How many your works are, O Jehovah! All of them in wisdom you have made. The earth is full of your productions.” Rom. 1:20: “His invisible ...

What Is The Name?

What Is The Name? Should we use a name for God? If so, how is it pronounced? “WHY did they stop putting God’s name, ‘Jehovah,’ in the Bible?” asked a letter to the religious section of the Washington, D.C., Evening Star of September 30, 1961. The question was answered by a clergyman who said: “The chief reason for this name being omitted from most English Bibles is that it did not appear in the original Hebrew manuscript.” In like manner, when the Revised Standard Version of the Bible was produced in 1952 its translators eliminated the use of the name “Jehovah,” saying: “The word ‘Jehovah’ does not accurately represent any ...

AMERICA NEEDS A SPIRITUAL BAILOUT

With all of the talk of a financial bailout in America I thought it might be appropriate to broach the subject that perhaps America is in greater need of a Spiritual bailout. With such thievery emanating from Washington DC, Wall Street, et al, perhaps it is time for God’s people to get serious. America’s problems are Spiritual folks, not financial. The obedience of God’s people holds the key to our nation’s future. Jesus already bailed us out once by paying our sin debt upon the cross. His death was the only way to reconcile God’s books because “the wages of sin is death. Christ picked up my “sin tab”, the fee required by God for my disobedience. ...

War Nerd: Abba, Civil War Songs—Anything But Gaza

I’ll talk about Gaza tomorrow, but I’ve got the day off and it’s not my idea of a good time. For now I’ll just say it turned out exactly like I said it would, but blecch, it’s not my idea of a good time and I’m not in the mood to gloat too much. So I’m going to purposely change the subject to this note I wrote myself on the way to work last week: “Supertrooper??? Not mil. @ all!! Column on misused mil. Lyrics” What I meant to remind myself of there was to do a column on the need to pass a law against civilians using military language in their lyrics. Exhibit A here is those pacifist Swedes Abba, who got famous on a song called ...

While he babbles, other men are risking and losing their lives to protect him. They are fighting the sea, fighting the land, fighting disease and insects and weather and space and time, for him, while he chatters that all men have a right to security and that some pagan god – Society, The State, The Government, The Commune – must give it to them. Let the fighting men stop fighting this inhuman earth for one hour, and he will learn how much security there is." ~ ...

Disgraced pastor faces more gay sex accusations

Disgraced evangelical leader Ted Haggard's former church disclosed Friday that the gay sex scandal that caused his downfall extends to a young male church volunteer who reported having a sexual relationship with Haggard — a revelation that comes as Haggard tries to repair his public image. Brady Boyd, who succeeded Haggard as senior pastor of the 10,000-member New Life Church in Colorado Springs, told The Associated Press that the man came forward to church officials in late 2006 shortly after a Denver male prostitute claimed to have had a three-year cash-for-sex relationship with Haggard. Boyd said an "overwhelming pool of evidence" pointed to an "inappropriate, ...

Things are bad: What do we do about it?Chris | InformationLiberationEverybody knows things are bad in the world. Everything is not peachy. The problems are innumerable, the economy, our freedoms, our happiness, our quality of life, we are suffering in all aspects of life and though we hope for a better future we feel as though the things which are outside of our control will only get worse. The situation we are in is overwhelming, we feel like there is something we can do but we don't know what to do! Whenever anyone is faced with this overwhelming situation, the question always becomes "what do we do about it?" Do we run out on the streets? Do we protest and go on strike? ...

It has been announced that the bicentenary of the birth of the Victorian Prime Minister William Gladstone is to be celebrated by spending £500,000 on the establishment of an “Islamic Reading Room” in Hawarden, Flintshire. The St Deniol’s Library in Hawarden, which is funded by the national lottery, houses Gladstone’s own collection of over 32,000 items. Many of the books contain Gladstone’s detailed annotations and the Library houses most of Gladstone’s non-political correspondence, speeches and papers which are administered by the Flintshire Record Office. According to St Deniol’s website, “a principal aim of the Gladstone 200 Campaign will ...

The Suffering Servant: Isaiah 53 and Why Isaiah 53 cannot refer to the nation of Israel, or anyone else, but must be the Messiah

The Suffering Servant: Isaiah 53 This amazing passage from the Hebrew Prophets was written over 700 years before the birth of Jesus. It is found in Jewish Bibles today, though it is left out of the weekly synagogue readings, as are many other texts of the Bible. When people read Isaiah 53 without knowing which part of the Bible it comes from, they often wrongly assume is from the New Testament. Did Isaiah foresee the sufferings of Jesus to pay for our sins? Though many modern rabbis --and some ancient rabbis-- say the sufferings described are those of the nation of Israel, most ancient rabbis said it refers to Messiah's sufferings. We have provided a link to some of the great rabbinic ...

The main Modern Orthodox rabbinical association says that one of its most prominent members has violated the organization’s rules by participating in the National Prayer Service the morning after Barack Obama's inaugural. The Rabbinical Council of America told JTA that Rabbi Haskel Lookstien, religious leader of Congregation Kehilath Jeshurun, broke the organization's rules by participating in the service, which was held at the National Cathedral Wednesday morning. “The long-standing policy of the Rabbinical Council of America, in accordance with Jewish law, is that participation in a prayer service held in the sanctuary of a church is prohibited," the RCA said in a ...

Michael Hoffman's 'Judaism Discovered From Its Own Texts' By Henry Makow, PhD 1-20-9 "Judaism Discovered," Michael Hoffman's monumental new work on Judaism is subtitled, "A Study of the Anti-Biblical Religion of Racism, Self-Worship, Superstition and Deceit." But, what does Hoffman really think of Judaism? We are in crisis. It's time we listened to plainspoken pariahs like Michael Hoffman. Anti-Semitism is on the rise and Hoffman's book explains why this is not irrational "hate." It's more important for Jews than anyone to learn that they are associated with a "religion" they don't really understand. Two polls, ...

YAHSHUA OR PAUL? ESSENE CHRISTIANITY VERSUS PAULIANITY AN EXPOSE´ AND CALL TO ACTIONby Rev. Brother Nazariah, D.D."Paul was the first corrupter of the doctrines of Jesus" -- Thomas Jefferson In previous articles published in The Essene Path, I have briefly touched on the topic of how Paul, the self-proclaimed Apostle, violently opposed the original vegetarian Essene Christianity of Jesus, first by killing and imprisoning its leaders, then by infiltrating the movement and leading a schism. The schism led by Paul -- a meat-eating version of Christianity -- replaced the teachings of Jesus with the teachings of Paul. As briefly described in previous articles, ...

Why Hard Atheists Shouldn't be Taken Seriously

While trudging through the comments section of Sandra Miller’s “Good without God” post, I offered some criticism of so-called “Hard Athiests” and tacitly defended the vast majority of Americans who (according to a U of M study) would never vote for such a person if he/she were running for president. Obviously, this drew some criticism in turn. One needs to closely examine the 100+ comments under Sandra’s excellent post to locate the few believers that joined the discussion. My argument, here and in Sandra’s comments section, is not a defense of religion or even of belief. I am simply critical of hard atheists—defined as people who have made a ...

Why did God command the extermination of the Canaanites, women and children included? Question: "Why did God command the extermination of the Canaanites, women and children included?" Answer: In 1 Samuel 15:2-3, God commanded Saul and the Israelites, “This is what the LORD Almighty says: 'I will punish the Amalekites for what they did to Israel when they waylaid them as they came up from Egypt. Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy everything that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.'" God ordered similar things when the Israelites were invading the promised land ...

How Did the Bible Survive?

How Did the Book Survive? Ancient writings had natural enemies—fire, moisture, mold. The Bible was not immune to such hazards. The record of how it has survived the ravages of time to become the world’s most accessible book is outstanding among ancient writings. That history deserves more than passing interest. THE Bible writers did not engrave their words on stone; neither did they inscribe them on durable clay tablets. They evidently recorded their words on perishable materials—papyrus (made from the Egyptian plant of the same name) and parchment (made from the skins of animals). What happened to the original writings? They probably disintegrated long ago, most of them ...

Reasons to Trust the Bible 5. Fulfilled Prophecy Imagine a weather forecaster who has a long record of being right—every time. If he predicted rain, would you carry an umbrella? THE Bible is filled with predictions, or prophecies. Its record, as documented by history, is clear. Bible prophecy is always right. Distinguishing features. Bible prophecies are often specific and have been fulfilled down to the smallest of details. They usually involve matters of great importance and predict the opposite of what those living at the time of the writing might have been expecting. An outstanding example. Strategically built astride the Euphrates River, ancient Babylon has been called ...

Reasons to Trust the Bible 4. Scientific Accuracy Science has made great strides in modern times. As a result, old theories have given way to new ones. What was once accepted as fact may now be seen as myth. Science textbooks often need revision. THE Bible is not a science textbook. Yet, when it comes to scientific matters, the Bible is noteworthy not only for what it says but also for what it does not say. Free of unscientific views. Many mistaken beliefs gained wide acceptance in ancient times. Views about the earth ranged from the idea that it was flat to the notion that tangible substances or objects held it aloft. Long before science learned about the spread and prevention of ...
