Reasons to Trust the Bible

Reasons to Trust the Bible 3. Internal Harmony Imagine asking 40 men from varied backgrounds to write a book, each writing a section. The writers live in a number of lands and do not all know one another. Some do not know what the others have written. Would you expect a book thus produced to be harmonious? THE Bible is such a book. Written under even more unusual conditions than those described above, its internal harmony is nothing less than profound. Unique circumstances. The Bible was written over a span of some 1,600 years, from 1513 B.C.E. to about 98 C.E. Many of the approximately 40 writers thus lived centuries apart. Their occupations were varied. Some were fishermen, ...

“God is not partial, but in every nation the man that fears him and works righteousness is acceptable to him.”—ACTS 10:34, 35. THE professor was at home on a Sunday afternoon, not expecting any visitors. But when one of our Christian sisters called at his door, he listened. She spoke about pollution and the future of the earth—subjects that appealed to him. However, when she introduced the Bible into the discussion, he seemed skeptical. So she asked him what he thought about the Bible. “It is a good book that was written by some intelligent men,” he replied, “but the Bible is not to be taken seriously.” “Have you ever read the Bible?” she ...

UN-acceptable censorship: The United Nations tries to outlaw criticism of Islam

Almost 500 years ago, on the wall of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany, Martin Luther posted his 95 Theses, characterizing as "madness" the notion that papal pardons could absolve individuals for their sins. As viewed from Rome, Luther had maligned, even defamed, the church. Luther was eventually excommunicated. His conduct ultimately led to the creation of a Protestant Church in Germany and a Reformation throughout Europe. It is difficult to believe that in the 21st century anyone would seriously propose that conduct such as Luther's should be deemed illegal. But a few weeks ago, the General Assembly of the United Nations took a giant step in that direction. It ...

Satan Goes to Church
Post Date: 2009-01-14 04:13:25 by Elliott Jackalope

A few minutes before the church services started, the townspeople were sitting in their pews and talking. Suddenly, Satan appeared at the front of the church. Everyone started screaming and running for the front entrance, trampling each other in a frantic effort to get away from evil incarnate. Soon everyone had exited the church except for one elderly gentleman who sat calmly in his pew without moving, seeming oblivious to the fact that God's ultimate enemy was in his presence. Satan walked up to the old man and said, "Don't you know who I am?" The man replied, "Yep, sure do." "Aren't you afraid of me?" Satan asked. "Nope, sure ...

Prayer is worthless, and I can prove it [Full Thread]

What would happen if we get down on our knees and pray to God in this way: Dear God, almighty, all-powerful, all-loving creator of the universe, we pray to you to cure every case of cancer on this planet tonight. We pray in faith, knowing you will bless us as you describe in Matthew 7:7, Matthew 17:20, Matthew 21:21, Mark 11:24, John 14:12-14, Matthew 18:19 and James 5:15-16. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen. We pray sincerely, knowing that when God answers this completely heartfelt, unselfish, non-materialistic prayer, it will glorify God and help millions of people in remarkable ways. Will anything happen? No. Of course not. This is very odd. Jesus makes specific promises in the Bible ...

Is Earth Being Visited From Another World? - Wielding the sword of Truth to cut through the bonds of "religion"

Is Earth Being Visited From Another World? Somewhere in the vast expanse of the universe there is a specific place, no one is sure where, that is called heaven. In this place there are three - the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The Word of the Lord says in Ecclesiastes 3, there is a time appointed for everything, and the Father has a purpose and a season in which to fulfill it. For the past several years the Spirit has brought forth a message from the Father to many of His servants world-wide that this is the beginning of an awesome visitation to the people of this earth to bring forth and manifest His Son, Jesus, in a great and powerful way. Know that this is the time of the latter rain ...

The Jewish people are God's chosen people. In a world where there is increasing anti-Semitism, God is still in control. There is absolutely no evidence in the Bible where God rejects the Jewish people as His chosen people. There is no evidence where God is for anti-Semitism. In fact, the roots of Christianity is in Judaism. In the Book of Exodus, the same God that Christians worshipped the last 2000 years is the exact same God as the "Lord God of the Hebrews" (Exodus 3:18). The Bible was written by men and inspired by God thousands of years before Christianity. The Jews were held in captivity by the Egyptians for over 400 years. God constantly reminded the Jewish people, who ...

Chapter CXXXIV.—The marriages of Jacob are a figure of the Church. “If, then, the teaching of the prophets and of Himself moves you, it is better for you to follow God than your imprudent and blind masters, who even till this time permit each man to have four or five wives; and if any one see a beautiful woman and desire to have her, they quote the doings of Jacob [called] Israel, and of the other 267 patriarchs, and maintain that it is not wrong to do such things; for they are miserably ignorant in this matter. For, as I before said, certain dispensations of weighty mysteries were accomplished in each act of this sort. For in the marriages of Jacob I shall mention what ...

Questions to ask a pastor to get "the boot". Is Scripture true? If so, then John 3: 16 says: 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. So, according to orthodox Christianity, all a person needs to do is believe? And they can do this thru their own wills? Then how about John 1 12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. So much for our "will", right? OK then, just a little further into that ...

have no real personal problems with Muslims ... other than the fact that they are heading for Hell. But that's their problem. If that's what they want, then hey, who am I to stop them? They can believe whatever they choose to believe - just don't try to force me to believe it too. I'm not saying that we shouldn't witness to them, but we can't force someone to believe what we believe just because we believe it. (Of course, that brings up whole other message about the necessity to have power in God so that your faith isn't just a bunch of empty words.) I used to sit in Muslim cafes in Africa and banter back and forth with them, all of us poking fun and arguing ...

Comparing Radical Islam to the Beast -666 is at work right now-

These comparisons are riveting to me. Out of all of the teachings that God has given to me, I feel that this is one of the more important. The reason I feel this way is because many people are deceived into believing doctrines and views that blind the Church from the threat that is looming in the near future. Death and destruction is on its way and many are oblivious to it. With the media being controlled by liberals on the far left in our country who are constantly bombarding the nation with political correctness it is almost impossible for the average person who doesn't do any research on their own to arrive at the truth. The astonishing truth is that the beast is growing in power at ...

The “I Can’t Know” Religion

Several times over the years I’ve encountered worshippers in what I would call the “I Can’t Know” religion. Last year, when I was in Shrewsbury, England, the birthplace of Charles Darwin, I walked past a Unitarian Church which had a plaque on the wall declaring that Darwin attended this church when he was a child. Then on the door of the church I read a sign: “No one has the only truth.” church sign: no one has truthNow that’s an interesting statement. I felt like going inside and asking if this was a “true” statement itself and see what kind of a reaction I’d get! This declaration is one that says that people can’t know for sure if ...

And in the naked light I saw Ten thousand people, maybe more People talking without speaking People hearing without listening People writing songs that voices never share... And no one dare Disturb the sound of silence. "Fools," said I, "you do not know Silence like a cancer grows." "Hear my words that I might teach you, Take my arms that I might reach you." But my words like silent raindrops fell, And echoed in the wells of silence. And the people bowed and prayed To the neon gods they made. And the sign flashed out its warning In the words that it was forming. And the sign said: "The words of the prophets Are written on the subway walls And tenement ...

The Victory of Persuasion Over Force

I have adopted the scheme of the Russian writer Dmitri Merejkowski (1865–1941), who believed all religions could be divided into two basic ones. In the first, Luciferian one, Man sacrifices Man to Man. In the second, God sacrifices Himself to Man. I am far more familiar with the first, having expended years of thought upon it. I do know the second archetype has been around for thousands of years. Think of Prometheus, who gave mankind not only fire, but brickwork, woodworking, telling the seasons by the stars, numbers, the alphabet (for remembering things), yoked oxen, carriages, saddles, ships and sails, healing drugs, the mining of precious metals, and art. He paid for his ...

The Hidden Man of Christmas

Putting St. Joseph back in the picture. Christmas cards tend to fall into three categories: the family card (cheerful children in red and green sweaters), the secular card (snowmen, snowflakes, snowy villages), and the religious card. The religious card usually bears a portrait of the Virgin Mary gazing beatifically at the crib of her newborn son, Jesus. Behind her, the picture is just as some of the Gospels describe: shepherds, animals, maybe even the three wise men, though they actually were late on the scene. But where's St. Joseph? Where is the man to whom, according to the Gospel of Matthew, an angel announced the birth of Jesus? Where is the guy who married Mary even though she ...

The Economic Lessons of Bethlehem
Post Date: 2008-12-25 10:35:19 by Ada

DIGG THIS At the heart of the Christmas story rests some important lessons concerning free enterprise, government, and the role of wealth in society. Let’s begin with one of the most famous phrases: "There’s no room at the inn." This phrase is often invoked as if it were a cruel and heartless dismissal of the tired travelers Joseph and Mary. Many renditions of the story conjure up images of the couple going from inn to inn only to have the owner barking at them to go away and slamming the door. In fact, the inns were full to overflowing in the entire Holy Land because of the Roman emperor’s decree that everyone be counted and taxed. Inns are private businesses, ...

"Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men." ~ Matthew 2:16 Christian apologists for the state, its leaders, its military, and its wars are not known for being the most consistent group of religious people. They are, in fact, some of the most inconsistent, hypocritical, duplicitous, two-faced people – religious or irreligious – that one will encounter when it comes to people who defend the state’s military ...
