Poster Comment:My dad passed away in 2002. I had 50 wonderful years with him and couldn't have asked for a better dad. And I am one of the lucky people who can say that the same is true for my mom, couldn't have a better one if I could have chosen. Mom is still with us and we all miss Dad but we know we will see him again someday and also that he is in a much better place.

Bio-Communication: Doctor of cognition and neuroscience, Gerald Epling, discussed his work on phenomenal bio-communication which measures and records the energy responses to plants in various conditions as well as responses of one life form to another. "We don't know why it happens," Epling marveled, "but we do have evidence that it happens on a quantum level." He explained that, according to biophysiological research, plants have been shown to respond to a person's thoughts as well as positive and negative actions towards it. While Epling theorized that plants possess "some kind of an emotional system," whether or not they can feel pain remains a ...

The Juscelino Kubitschek Bridge (Ponte Juscelino Kubitschek), also known as the President JK Bridge or just the JK Bridge, crosses Lake Paranoá in Brasília. It is named for Juscelino Kubitschek de Oliveira, former president of Brazil, who in the late 1950s decided to build Brasília as the new capital of the country. It was designed by architect Alexandre Chan and structural engineer Mário Vila Verde. The main span structure has four supporting pillars submerged under Lake Paranoá, and the deck weight is supported by three 200-foot tall asymmetrical steel arches that crisscross diagonally. The decks are suspended by steel cables alternating at each side ...

The Cook County Board has added Section 8, or Housing Choice Vouchers, to the list of reasons landlords cannot bar tenants under the Illinois Fair Housing Law. Up until recently, landlords had discretion on whether they would allow Section 8 tenants to rent in their properties. That all changed on May 8 as the Cook County Board approved a measure that would penalize landlords for discriminating against Section 8 voucher holders. The Illinois Fair Housing Law states that one cannot deny an applicant based on race, ethnicity, religion, age, sex, disability, presence of children or sexual orientation. Now, Section 8 voucher holders have been added to that list. The measure passed 9-6, the ...

NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio (WKYC) -- The Ohio Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals wants Humane Officer Barry Accorti fired for allegedly shooting five kittens in a home's back yard on Monday. OSPCA Executive Director Teresa Landon says Accorti should be fired and charged with five counts of animal cruelty. Accorti retired as a sergeant with the North Ridgeville Police Department a few years ago and was hired as a part-time humane officer with the department. Police tell WKYC that Accorti did not work Tuesday, but will be back on Wednesday. Accorti responded to a home Monday afternoon where a feral mother cat and her five kittens were living in a woodpile. He allegedly told ...

WASHINGTON, June 6 (by Karin Zeitvogel for RIA Novosti) – Russian bees are the latest buzzword among American beekeepers who see the hardy honey-makers as potential saviors against a mysterious blight that has decimated the US bee population. Originally from the coastal Primorsky in Russia’s Far East, Russian bees are twice as resistant to varroa mites, tiny parasites that can infest beehives and were fingered in a report released in May by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as the single greatest cause of the dramatic decline in the US honeybee population, which has fallen from 6 million colonies in 1947 to 2.5 million today. ...

TacoCopter turned out to be a fake. So did the Burrito Bomber. But now, the skies, at least in the U.K., have finally opened up to fast food: Domino's Pizza has carried out a delivery order by drone helicopter. Video of the DomiCopter—developed by Aerosight—was posted by T + Biscuits, the creative agency brought in by the pizza chain's U.K. headquarters. The copter reportedly can deliver up to two large pizzas over a four-mile radius in 10 minutes or less. “If anything, it went quicker than a pizza boy," T + Biscuits founder Tom Hatton told Fox News. "We were amazed at how easy it was going to be.” Of course, there are a few caveats about the ...

Russian Activists Plant Flowers Potatoes in Road Potholes
Post Date: 2013-06-02 06:00:12 by Tatarewicz

YAROSLAVL, June 2 (RIA Novosti) - A group of activists in the Central Russian city of Yaroslavl planted potatoes in road potholes “to see if these potatoes will grow sooner than the city authorities repair the roads.” Road construction and repair in Russia is notoriously inefficient, with funds allocated for road maintenance often embezzled or misused. The quality of the road surface in many parts of the country remains extremely poor, even when highways are frequently repaired. Participants, equipped with light-reflecting vests and spray paint, ringed several hundred of potholes on the city roads with bright-colored paint on Sunday morning in a bid to attract the attention of ...

Industrial-size worm farm cuts Sydney waste
Post Date: 2013-06-01 00:51:50 by Tatarewicz

SYDNEY, May 31 (Xinhua) -- A worm farm trial in a Sydney eatery precinct has halved the total waste of a local restaurant and juice shop, saving on rubbish bills and producing fertiliser, the City of Sydney said Friday. The Green Living Centre held a six-month trial of the farm using a 1,500 litre skip bin to house the worms at their office in Newtown, Sydney. Over the six months the farm diverted 462 kilograms, the equivalent of 6,500 hamburgers, of food waste from two local businesses, said Project Manager Mithra Cox. The 323 litres of organic fertilizer produced by the worms was given away to local residents, and is expected to produce about 40 kilograms of compost. "The worm ...
