ZOMBIE ALERT issued by Homeland Security
Post Date: 2012-09-09 04:45:23 by Tatarewicz

The ‘alert’ was a humorous way to give advice to citizens on how to prepare for such real threats as hurricanes, earthquakes, pandemics and terrorist attacks. Homeland Security issues ZOMBIE warning! Actually, it's part of a preparedness campaign for disasters. If zombies take over, the government wants you to be prepared. The Homeland Security Department warned citizens on Thursday that the “zombies are coming,” and urged them to be ready for a walking-dead apocalypse, The Associated Press reported. The zombie “warning” is part of a public health campaign calling for citizens to be ready for disaster — to know to stock up on food, batteries and ...

Outbreaks: In the first half of Wednesday's show, Dr. Gary Ridenour talked about various disease outbreaks such as Hantavirus, as well as West Nile, and Lyme disease. Interestingly, historians believe that Alexander the Great died from exposure to Hantavirus in 323 BC, and soldiers were also struck by it during the Korean War. The rare disease is spread by the deer mouse, and there's been a recent outbreak at Yosemite National Park from people who stayed in the "signature tent cabins," he reported. The incubation time is 2-4 weeks, and people who contract the virus (which is not passed between humans) may experience flu-like symptoms, and fever. About a third of the cases ...

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) – A possible lawsuit is brewing over the shootings at the Aurora movie theater, and there may be many more. The suit could target the owner of the theater. Lawyers in New York they say Cinemark is the main entity they’re planning to go after for compensation for the victims. They’re hoping they can reach some sort of settlement right off the bat, but they’re prepared to go to court. “We have the experience and the contacts to hopefully end this litigation quickly,” attorney Marc Bern said. Bern is with Napoli, Bern, Ripka, and Scholonik, a New York firm that has represented victims from Sept. 11 and the Costa Concordia ship wreck. Bern ...

In the first half of Thursday's show, survivalism expert Jim Rawles discussed how the collapse of the dollar and the stock market could cause civil unrest in major metro areas, and shared tips for preparedness. Eventually, foreign investors are going to demand a higher rate of return on treasury paper and "that will be the key trigger to unravel the whole ball of wax," he said. This will certainly happen within the next 10 years, probably within the next two years, he stated. If we have a solar storm or EMP event, it could take down our telecommunications system. Food stamps (which some 43 million Americans currently receive) are now on EBT cards, handled by a centralized ...

Scanning for Drunks With a Thermal Camera

ScienceDaily (Sep. 4, 2012) — Thermal imaging technology might one day be to identify drunks before they become a nuisance in bars, airports or other public spaces. Georgia Koukiou and Vassilis Anastassopoulos of the Electronics Laboratory, at University of Patras, Greece, are developing software that can objectively determine whether a person has consumed an excessive amount of alcohol based solely on the relative temperature of different parts of the person's face. Writing in the International Journal Electronic Security and Digital Forensics, the team explains how such a system sidesteps the subjective judgements one might make based on behaviour and so allow law enforcement ...

Japanese toilet maker TOTO employee Akiko Matsuyama laughs as she shows a "Toilet Bike Neo" at its showroom in Fujisawa, near Tokyo, Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012. TOTO rolled out the eco-friendly three-wheel 250cc motorcycle with a specially customized toilet-shaped seat that runs on bio-fuel from the discharge of livestock or waste water. Japan's best-known toilet maker on Wednesday unveiled a "poop-powered" motorcycle that can travel as far as 180 miles on a tank filled with animal waste. Billed as the world's first waste-powered vehicle, the three-wheeler has a toilet in place of a regular seat and huge paper roll at the back. But as a young female model ...

> A Proposal for Romney/Ryan9/6/12Romney and Ryan, to the best of my knowledge, and with a web search, have not made public their College Transcripts. Since it's a key issue by many that Obama has denied access to virtually ALL of his early recordsI would propose that much could be gained by Both Romney and Ryan to make available, via WebSite Links, their transcripts (I'd assume they're at least Average Grades, they're both obviously intelligent). Obama Can Not release his. Someone in the GOP Camp  needs to bring this up to the Candidates. It's an Issue! As another play, Post Their Birth Certificates on other Sites. Link them on campaign literature. Show ...

Compressed natgas vs electriic for cars

Although I'm a long-time supporter of electric vehicles, it would be irresponsible as an investor to ignore potential threats to this market. So for the sake of clarification, I've decided to take a closer look at the benefits of natural gas-powered vehicles to see if they are, in fact, enough to close the lid on electric car development. The first benefit is fuel price. The most recent EPA report of compressed natural gas (CNG) prices indicates $2.13 per equivalent gasoline gallon. In some parts of the country, that's half the price of 87 Octane. Of course, natural gas won't be dirt cheap forever... but neither will gasoline. Quite frankly, I suspect there will be a ...

Premonitions - C2C recap

In the first half, paranormal expert and author Joel Martin talked about premonitions and related stories. According to Martin, eight out of ten people have received an after death communication from a deceased loved one. Many of these are actually premonitions, he said. They can be challenging to research because one must either accept a person's claim or be present to record the premonition and verify the subsequent predicted event, Martin explained. He defined a premonition as a forewarning, usually related to tragedy, and noted how they are part of the normal human experience. Premonitions should be fairly specific and not merely a general feeling of unease (i.e., common sense), ...

Saudi Arabia’s central province of al-Qassim faces a fuel crisis, which has led to the closure of gas stations, a report says. According to a recent report by the Saudi al-Weeam newspaper, the crisis has forced many gas stations in al-Qassim, northwest of the capital, Riyadh, to stop work. The report adds that owners of the fuel stations say the Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Aramco) is responsible for the crisis. Several businesses have also stopped work due to the fuel crisis, and residents have called on Aramco to take necessary measures regarding the issue. Aramco, the national oil company of Saudi Arabia, was the world’s most valuable company in 2005. The recent fuel ...

Somebody didn't like the essay last week... The one about how we've turned into a nation of zombies — 100 million people on some form of welfare, 46.5 million on food stamps, and disability claims growing six times faster than the population. This person (I'll call her Lauren) sent me a long diatribe. I take pride in my work and writing, so I must respond. It's also in your best interest that I do. Lauren begins: I didn't like this article. I didn't like your comment about $100k/yr not being 'very much' if you have two kids, a mortgage, and two car payments. If you don't think $100k is very much... Try supporting a household on $28k-$45k/year. ...

ScienceDaily (Aug. 30, 2012) — "Information overload" may be an exaggerated way to describe today's always-on media environment. Actually, very few Americans seem to feel bogged down or overwhelmed by the volume of news and information at their fingertips and on their screens, according to a new Northwestern University study. The study was published in the journal The Information Society. "Little research has focused on information overload and media consumption, yet it's a concept used in public discussions to describe today's 24/7 media environment," said Eszter Hargittai, an associate professor of communication studies at Northwestern and lead ...

And I don’t eat junk food.” Georgia woman Besse Cooper, the world’s oldest person, celebrated her 116th birthday on Sunday to become only the eighth person in the world and the fourth American to ever have been verified by Guinness World Records as having reached that age. Story: Accomplishing amazing athletic feats — in their 80s and 90s Cooper, who was born in Tennessee in 1896, was first certified as the world’s oldest person by Guinness in January 2011, but briefly had to give up her title for a few months when Guinness verified that ...

ScienceDaily (Aug. 27, 2012) — As president of the International Society for Research on Aggression (IRSA) and with consent of the organization's elected council, Craig Anderson appointed an international Media Violence Commission last December to prepare a public statement on the known effects of media violence exposure, based on the current state of scientific knowledge. The Iowa State University Distinguished Professor of psychology appointed 12 IRSA researchers to the commission, including Douglas Gentile, an ISU associate professor of psychology. The Media Violence Commission's research-based report concludes that the research clearly shows that media violence ...

Customs seize million-dollar violin

German customs seized a $1.2 million violin from a professional musician and are demanding she pay almost $500,000 to get it back, reports said on Wednesday. Belgium-based Yuzuko Horigome was transiting through Frankfurt Airport last week after performing in her home country Japan, the top-selling Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper said. When she tried to walk through the green gate for travellers arriving in the EU with nothing to declare, customs officers stopped her and said she needed to pay €190,000 in duty on her 1741 Guarnerius violin. On top of this were fines, taking the total cost to an eye-popping €380,000 euros, the Tokyo-based paper said. Customs confiscated the ...

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The former U.S. Navy SEAL who authored a soon-to-be-published book about the raid that killed Osama bin Laden is now facing threats against his life in addition to possible criminal prosecution. An official al Qaeda website on Friday posted a photograph and the name of the former Navy commando responsible for the book, calling him "the dog who murdered the martyr Sheikh Osama bin Laden." The head of U.S. Special Operations Command told current and former troops that the military would take legal action against anyone found to have exposed sensitive information that could cause harm to fellow forces. "We will pursue every option available to hold ...

Photos Of Athletes: Nobody Notices Nuthin' By Steve Sailer on August 24, 2012 at 10:03am With the news today that Lance Armstrong is surrendering his seven Tour de France cycling titles, I want to return to my rant from last weekthat nobody seems to notice anything when famous celebrities look a little odd. Here, for example, is a picture of the veteran tennis-playing Williams Sisters from the cover of the upcoming New York Times Sunday Magazine. Venus, on the left, looks like an enormously tall and extremely athletic woman in the peak of physical shape. As I recall, when Venus emerged as a pro in the 1990s, she set a record for velocity of service speed for a woman. So, Venus is ...

WASHINGTON, Aug. 22, 2012 (Reuters) — The U.S. government was surprised by the news that a Navy SEAL who participated in the raid on Osama bin Laden's compound in Pakistan has written a book about the operation in which the al Qaeda leader was killed, U.S. officials said on Wednesday. "No Easy Day: The Firsthand Account of the Mission that Killed Osama Bin Laden" was written by a Navy SEAL under the pseudonym Mark Owen with co-author Kevin Maurer and is to be released next month on the anniversary of the September 11 attacks. It was not vetted by government agencies to ensure that no secrets were revealed. "The book was vetted by a former special operations ...
