CN testing natural gas trains on Fort McMurray line Post Date: 2012-10-03 04:54:38 by Tatarewicz

CN is testing locomotives in northern Alberta fueled primarily by natural gas instead of diesel. CN says it's exploring the use of natural gas as an alternative to diesel to lower fuel costs and reduce carbon dioxide emissions. "Natural gas has a lower carbon content compared with diesel fuel, so that locomotives using natural gas - if the railway technology employing this form of energy ultimately proves viable - would produce significantly fewer carbon dioxide emissions," said Keith Creel, executive vice-president and chief operating officer, in a press release Thursday. The company retrofitted diesel engines in two 3,000-horsepower locomotives to hybrid engines burning ...
Thousands of Bombs Dumped in Gulf of Mexico Pose Huge Threat to Oil Rigs Post Date: 2012-10-03 01:34:05 by Tatarewicz

After World War II the US government dumped millions of kilograms of unexploded bombs into the Gulf of Mexico. This is no secret; many governments dumped their unexploded ordnance into oceans and lakes from 1946 up until the 1970s when it was made illegal under international treaty. Now that technology has advanced enough for oil companies to drill deep sea wells in the Gulf of Mexico, those forgotten payloads have become a real hazard. The US designated certain areas around its coast for the safe dumping of explosives, nerve gas, and mustard gas. The problem is that the records of where these munitions were dumped are incomplete, and many experts believe that a lot of cargo was dumped ...

Pesticide use ramping up as GMO crop technology backfires: study Post Date: 2012-10-02 04:45:01 by Tatarewicz

Oct. 1, 2012 (Reuters) U.S. farmers are using more hazardous pesticides to fight weeds and insects due largely to heavy adoption of genetically modified crop technologies that are sparking a rise of "superweeds" and hard-to-kill insects, according to a newly released study. Genetically engineered crops have led to an increase in overall pesticide use, by 404 million pounds from the time they were introduced in 1996 through 2011, according to the report by Charles Benbrook, a research professor at the Center for Sustaining Agriculture and Natural Resources at Washington State University. Of that total, herbicide use increased over the 16-year period by 527 million pounds ...

Posted at LP, thought it might be appreciated here. Over there, the usual crap stains devolved the thread.. The Hobbit will be coming out. Three movies, am going to copy and paste a fantastic post about this. Am unsure of origin of this, but worth reading, here goes..... 1 - 09-24-2012, 10:24 AM Everything Peter Jackson added to The Hobbit with PROOF! Potentially very spoilerish, but it sounds amazing Quote: Now that it has been officially confirmed that Peter Jackson will be making a trilogy out of The Hobbit, everyone is asking one basic question. How is that possible? The Hobbit just isn't as big as Lord of the Rings. But Jackson has sworn up and down that there's ...

BOSTON (Reuters) - The Harvard-educated son of disgraced Chinese political leader Bo Xilai defended his father against charges of taking bribes and having improper sexual relationships, saying he believed in his father's good character. "Personally, it is hard for me to believe the allegations that were announced against my father, because they contradict everything I have come to know about him throughout my life," Bo Guagua said in a statement posted on the microblog site Tumblr. "Although the policies my father enacted are open to debate, the father I know is upright in his beliefs and devoted to duty," he added. Bo confirmed the statement, posted on ...

Assange, an intelligence asset of Israel, as Zbigniew Brzezinski pointed out on December 2, 2010 on National Public Radio in an interview with Judy Woodruff, one tasked with supplying a platform for Israeli intelligence to insert carefully crafted pointed intelligence wrapped in Wikileaks. The aftermath of the last world altering months may mean life or death, war or peace for millions, perhaps the entire world. Real conflict in Syria, the attempts by others to expand regional conflicts, tribal feuds and ethnic rivalries into war of aggression is becoming openly recognized, perhaps for the first time in history. Since the days of Machiavelli, war through deception ...

Psychiatric Drugs: In the first half of Tuesday's show, author and psychiatrist, Dr. Peter Breggin, discussed the harmful long term effects of psychiatric drugs. The original drug safety studies only last for short periods, but people are told to go on these drugs for months and years, he said. When you stay on these kind of medications for a long time, we're finding a shortened lifespan, particularly from anti-psychotics, which may cut 20 years from a person's life, he detailed. Further, scans and MRIs have revealed that people on long-term psychiatric drugs have brain shrinkage. While the drugs may offer some short term relief for patients, "if you're looking at ...

Oklahoma Open Carry Law Embraced By Many In Tulsa Post Date: 2012-09-23 00:01:19 by X-15

TULSA, Oklahoma - It's official: Oklahoma will be an open carry state starting in November. Governor Mary Fallin signed Senate Bill 1733 into a law Tuesday afternoon, making it legal for Oklahomans to get a handgun license and carry their guns unconcealed. But the bill has triggered a lot of mixed feelings. Oklahoma is now the 44th state to allow "open carry." Although it seems kind of cut and dry, there are some special requirements to be able to carry your gun freely. Stephen Brewer has a concealed handgun license. He says it's good that Oklahomans will now have the option to carry openly, but he'd rather stick to the traditional approach and keep his gun hidden. ...

I started out at Ted Nugent's website/forum (TNUSA) in the late 90's, it was a happening place back then. Next, I migrated over to LibertyPost.org when somebody at TNUSA recommended it and the moderation at TNUSA got pretty heavy-handed. After Goldi banned me during one of her Ron Paul purges (how Leninist is THAT?) back in 2007 I came here and quit being a Neocon-Patriotard :)

School District Bans Father-Daughter Dances After Single Mom Complains Post Date: 2012-09-20 14:33:13 by X-15

In an effort to comply with state laws about gender discrimination, a Rhode Island school district has banned father-daughter dances and mother-son baseball games after a single mom complained that her daughter wasn't able to attend a dance. The mother filed a complaint with the Rhode Island branch of the American Civil Liberties Union last May, saying that her child felt excluded from the dance because she did not have a father figure to take her. The dance was a longstanding event run by a parent-teacher organization. "I think when schools tell girls 'You love dances' and boys 'You love baseball games,' I think that is going too far," Rhode Island ACLU ...
5 Things To Always Buy Used Post Date: 2012-09-20 03:18:20 by Tatarewicz

Other than a new smell and the satisfaction of being the only owner, buying something new doesnt make sense for some things. Buying used items can save you a significant amount of money, which can make up for the fact that you don't get the joy of opening a virgin product. If you can live without the smell of a new car or a new book and don't mind not having the original tags to cut off new clothes, you can easily spend half as much while getting quality merchandise. Here are some things you should always buy used: 1. Furniture. For the amount of damage that furniture takes from everyday use, you'd think it would be difficult to find good used furniture. Consignment ...

The German government has barred American pastor Terry Jones from entering the country amid rising protests against an anti-Islam film made in the United States. A spokesman for the German Interior Ministry said on Sunday that pastor Jones visit would be contrary to the "interest in maintaining public order." It comes after a German far-right, Pro Deutschland, invited the extremist pastor to the country in order to attend a Berlin screening of the anti-Islam movie produced by an Israeli-American in the US. The radical Florida pastor rose to prominence after he burnt copies of the Holy Quran in public, sparking massive demonstrations in several countries. Meanwhile, ...
