Scientists of a Swiss institute say they have evidence that former Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat may have been poisoned with polonium. According to the findings of laboratory research conducted at the Institut de Radiophysique in Lausanne, Switzerland, Arafat was poisoned by polonium, a rare, highly radioactive element, al-Jazeera reported on Tuesday. “I can confirm that we measured an unexplained, elevated amount of unsupported polonium-210 in the belongings of Mr. Arafat that contained stains of biological fluids,” said Dr. Francois Bochud, the director of the institute. Bochud stated that the tests focused on biological samples taken from his belongings, which were given ...

Can't remember your phone number? Lose the GUM: Experts say chewing on chicle keeps memories from sticking in the brain

Chewing gum can be annoying to people around you and it leaves a sticky mess behind, but now researchers say it can also hamper your memory. According to experts from Cardiff University in the UK, people who chewed gum had a harder time recalling lists of letters and numbers than those who avoided the habit. Researchers believe that the motion involved in chewing impedes the brain's ability to memorize serial lists. Just like tapping your finger or foot may distract you from accomplishing the same task, continual movements like chomping on a piece of gum can also interfere with your short-term memory. Researchers say people who chewed gum had a harder time recalling lists of letters ...

Sheikh Ghayyats: Assad's Regime And Israel Conspire To Help Each Other JAKARTA - Sheikh Ghayyats Abdul Baqi explained that, for a long time, there has been an evil conspiracy played by the Assad family regime of Syria and the Zionist Israel to secure Israel and destroy the Muslims, thus it not surprising that Bashar Assad is so cruel towards the Muslims. “In the past, Hafez Assad had banned the Muslims of Syria from fighting against Israel,” Sheikh Ghayyats said in a press conference entitled “Syria Calls You”, in the Da'wah Islamiyah Council of Indonesia, Kramat Raya, Jakarta (17/6). Moreover, the father of the current Syrian President or Bashar Assad ...

All vehicles travelling on French roads must carry a chemical or electronic breathalyzer test beginning Sunday, under new rules aimed at reducing alcohol-induced accidents. "Alcohol has been the main cause of mortality on roads since 2006," according to road security authorities. About a third of fatalities on French roads is due to drunk driving, a rate that far surpasses the 17 percent recorded in Britain or 10 percent in Germany. According to a survey published Sunday, just over half of respondents -- 57 percent -- said they have yet to equip their vehicles with breathalyzer tests. Those who fail to do so risk a fine of 11 euros ($14) from November 1, 2012, when the ...

Brazilian prisoners will be able to shave 48 days off their sentence each year by reading. In a move to promote literacy among inmates, the Brazilian government has announced that prisoners will be able to shorten their sentence by reading. The South American country has launched a program entitled ‘Redemption Through Reading’ in its four crowded federal prisons that allows prisoners to cut 48 days off their sentence each year by reading up to twelve books. Eligible inmates to take part in the program will be chosen by a special panel and then given a chance to select from works of literature, philosophy, science, or the classics. According to Brazilian officials, each ...

Streaming Consciousness & Telepathy: In the first half of Friday's program, author and "time traveling" clairvoyant, Louise Hauck, discussed the nature of time and telepathy, as well as how we can use our natural psychic abilities to navigate the 'past' and 'future,' and even contact those who have passed on from this realm. "There is no before or after outside of this dimension," Hauck said. The past exists only in so far as we hold certain perceptions of it, she added. Hauck detailed how she can merge with a client's consciousness to view strategic past scenes that may be impacting the present and glimpse probable future moments. According ...

A little boy got on the bus, sat next to a man reading a book, and noticed he had his collar on backwards. The little boy asked why he wore his collar backwards. The man, who was a priest, said, 'I am a Father..' The little boy replied, 'My Daddy doesn't wear his collar like that.' The priest looked up from his book and answered, ''I am the Father of many.' The boy said, ''My Dad has 4 boys, 4 girls and two grandchildren and he doesn't wear his collar that way!' The priest, getting impatient, said. 'I am the Father of hundreds', and went back to reading his book. The little boy sat quietly thinking for a while, then leaned over ...

Don't Seek Education, Seek Knowledge

Don't Seek Education, Seek Knowledge Many words make me cringe.  “We” and “our”, when not specifically pertaining to the people you directly know or associate with on a personal level, top the list.  Probably third is “education”. The word, just like so many, has been twisted, turned and co-opted over time.  Just like the word “liberal” used to mean someone almost of anarchist leanings, but now signifies almost the exact opposite: a leftist statist. Or how the word “anarchism” has also been skewed through propaganda to connote the opposite of what it is. Education can mean one of many things depending on who you ...

Playing music while you sleep can help improve your ability to play the same tune, new Northwestern University research suggests. The research supports existing evidence that memories can be reactivated during sleep, and storage of them strengthened in the process. "Our results extend prior research by showing that external stimulation during sleep can influence a complex skill," says psychology professor Ken A Paller. Participants were taught to play two artificially generated musical tunes with well-timed key presses. Then while the participants took a 90-minute nap, the researchers presented one of the tunes that had been practised, but not the other. Using EEG to record ...

June 22, 2012 Coast Insider Audio Velikovsky & the Dogon: Making his C2C debut on Thursday's show, author/researcher Laird Scranton discussed the controversial assertions of Velikovsky, as well as the cosmology and scientific knowledge of the Dogon tribe in West Africa. According to Velikovsky, a large body smacked into Jupiter and as a result of that impact, Venus was ejected as a brilliant comet; it then impacted Mars directly, and proceeded on to have close passes with Earth, before it moved into its current orbit. This suggests that because Earth is similar to Venus, it may have been formed the same way, Scranton said. In ancient times, Venus was reportedly so bright it could ...

THE US government has given no indication it wants to extradite WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange over the release of secret diplomatic cables,Australian Foreign Minister Bob Carr said. Senator Carr said he has received no hint from two discussions with American officials that they have a plan to extradite him to the US. "There is not the remotest evidence that is the case," he told ABC Television today. Mr Assange has been at Ecuador's embassy in London for nearly a week as the South American nation considers his political asylum application. The asylum bid is a last-ditch effort to avoid extradition to Sweden to face sex-crime allegations he says are baseless. The ...

Its stones are thought to have symbolized the ancestors of different groups of earliest farming communities in Britain, with some stones coming from southern England and others from west Wales. The teams, from the universities of Sheffield, Manchester, Southampton, Bournemouth and University College London, all working on the Stonehenge ...
