Pat Buchanan May Be Done At MSNBC: Phil Griffin Post Date: 2012-01-08 17:04:34 by X-15

The president of MSNBC criticized Pat Buchanan the network's controversial pundit who has been missing from the air for months during interviews on Saturday and said it is not certain that Buchanan will remain a paid contributor to the network. Buchanan has been absent from MSNBC since late October, just after his latest book was released. The book, "Suicide of a Superpower," contained typically incendiary musings on race and immigration, and Buchanan even appeared on an openly "pro-white" radio show to promote it It's not altogether certain what made "Suicide" so different from Buchanan's other work. After all, he has been a ...
Predators behind Norway's mass herring deaths: experts Post Date: 2012-01-08 08:02:20 by Tatarewicz

Biologists believe that thousands of herring found dead on a beach in northern Norway last week may have been chased there by killer whales or other predators. Residents of Kvennes in Troms County, northern Norway, have flocked to the local beach since the mysterious discovery there on December 28th of an estimated 20 tonnes of silver-tinged herring. Although no one is certain how the herring perished, Ole Kristian Berg, professor of fish ecology at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, said the huge school of fish was likely hunted ashore by larger species. I give a high vote for predators, Berg told The Local. He said the herring, well fed on plankton, tend ...

A new study claims that dogs are able to read our facial expressions and anticipate our desires just like human babies do Crazed doggy parents will eagerly tell you that their dogs are able to understand and communicate, and are surely capable of basic levels of human cognition. Turns out these dog parents may not be so crazy after all. A new study has found that dogs are able to make eye contact and take cues from humans in a manner similar to a 6-month-old infant. Here, a brief guide: What did the study find? Dogs, like human babies, read our facial expressions. They don't just rely on verbal cues to ascertain what humans want. They also use eye contact to anticipate our ...

My dad could have killed someone, Anyone have problems with an elderly driver parent? Post Date: 2012-01-06 15:22:22 by PSUSA2

I just found out that my dad did something dumb. He drove recklessly, and fortunately didn't hurt anyone. This could have ended very badly. Any ideas on how to deal with that? Car sabotage? That's the only thing I can think of. He's probably way too stubborn to give up his license, so maybe it will take some tickets to convince him. I don't know. All I know is I don't want anyone dying due to his actions.

A Dallas teen missing for more than a year has been found living in Colombia. Lorene Turner tells WFAA that her granddaughter Jakadrien Turner ran away from home in the fall of 2010 when she was just 14. Jakadrien made her way to Houston, where she was arrested by police. That's when things took a turn toward the Kafka-esque. Jakadrien gave the police a false name and her new alias just happened to match up with the name of a 22-year-old Colombian citizen who had been in the United States illegally. And to compound Turner's plight further, the Colombian national had a warrant out for her arrest. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) then deported Jakadrien in April 20 ...

A Chicago police officer allegedly turned a $132 speeding ticket into a pick-up opportunity when he later tracked down the female driver and asked her out, saying the least he could do for the money he cost her was to treat her to dinner, according to a lawsuit the woman filed in federal court. Evagelina Paredes filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Chicago, accusing police officer Chris Collins of violating her privacy, according to the Associated Press. She alleges that after she was ticketed on Oct. 22, Collins searched for her address in the motor-vehicle database and left a handwritten note on the windshield of her car, which was parked outside her apartment in the Chicago suburb ...

A senior Iranian lawmaker has said that the United States is seeking to help Taliban militants back into power in Afghanistan. Deputy Chairman of the Majlis (parliament) Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy, Hojjatoleslam Hossein Ebrahimi said on Wednesday that Washington was after toppling Afghan President Hamid Karzai's government. The US pursues its goals in the area of foreign policy with a profit-seeking outlook, he stated, citing the White House's USD-100-million aid package, which is headed for a Taliban liaison office, planned to be set up in Doha, Qatar. The MP said the US had a history of fostering terrorism, accusing Washington of equipping ...

ScienceDaily (Dec. 27, 2011) The 2007 Cosco Busan disaster, which spilled 54,000 gallons of oil into the San Francisco Bay, had an unexpectedly lethal impact on embryonic fish, devastating a commercially and ecologically important species for nearly two years, reports a new study by the University of California, Davis, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The study, to be published the week of Dec. 26 in the early edition of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, suggests that even small oil spills can have a large impact on marine life, and that common chemical analyses of oil spills may be inadequate. "Our research represents a change in the ...

Botoxic Putin faces either resignation or palace coup The daughter of former Soviet Communist leader Nikita Khrushchev, Nina, professor of international affairs at The New School in the US and senior fellow at the World Policy Institute in New York, published in the magazine New Europe an article entitled "Russia's botoxic president returns", where she in particular points out: "When a tsar is treated with mockery, rather than regarded with awe, it is time for him to consider retirement, or to prepare for a palace coup. Putin, who intends to stage a glorious return to the Kremlin as President in the election scheduled for March next year, should reflect on that choice. ...
Lion King becomes a Dark Knight Post Date: 2012-01-02 20:47:19 by angK

You've seen skilful edits of video content to make fake movie trailers before, starting with the warm family-drama version of The Shining and extending recently to the horror take on Modern Family. But the version that just arrived over the weekend of The Dark Knight Rises - taking the audio from that upcoming Batman film's much-viewed trailer and putting it atop clips from The Lion King - might be a whole other level of accomplishment. Los Angeles editor/director Brad Hansen carefully establishes the similarities not only of the two vengeful orphans Bruce Wayne and Simba, and the scorched-earth agendas of their nemeses Bane and Scar, but also the parallels in the details, like ...
Germans and Danes Split over Undersea Link Post Date: 2012-01-02 07:07:02 by Tatarewicz

Denmark plans to build a 20-kilometer tunnel under the Baltic Sea to Germany in what would be the largest infrastructure project in Europe and one of the world's longest undersea tunnels. Most Danes support the project, but resistance is growing on the German side. Info On a cold winter's day in Lalandia, a holiday resort on the Danish Baltic island of Lolland, two men faced off in a kind of duel. One came from Germany, the other from Denmark. The issue was whether Lolland and Fehmarn -- in other words, Denmark and Germany -- should be linked by a tunnel or a bridge. Or whether everything should remain as it is. It also had to do with two kinds of politics. Hendrick Kerlen, the ...

We've all heard about crazy lawsuits and 2011 was no exception when it came to the filing of frivolous even ridiculous lawsuits. A lawsuit by a kidnapper against his victims for not helping him evade police tops the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Institute for Legal Reforms (ILR) survey of the Top Ten Most Ridiculous Lawsuits of 2011, released today. "While these lawsuits vary from the outrageous to the humorous, abusive litigation is hardly a laughing matter," said ILR President Lisa Rickard. "ILR's annual poll of ridiculous lawsuits helps to remind us that abusive lawsuits affect real people and real businesses, and can have harmful results to ...
Isn't it iconic? The words we use are influenced by fads and fancies Post Date: 2012-01-01 23:01:16 by Tatarewicz

A search of The Sun's electronic library reveals usage climbs and declines In 1985, the word "iconic" did not appear in The Vancouver Sun. Not once. This year it has popped up more than 528 times. Everything we admire (or revile) is now iconic. In 2011 that meant woodland caribou, the Rolls-Royce hood ornament, Science World in Vancouver, the St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols, and numerous actors, wines, gardens and even at least one statue. The Avalon Dairy was merely "neariconic." A search engine that is part of this newspaper's electronic library has the useful feature of dividing articles by year, and it shows the steady climb of the word ...

Scientists propose a fixed schedule, with an additional week 5 or 6 years According to the proposal, holidays will always fall on the same day of the week, all year. The proposed new schedule would have to be accepted by governments around the world An astrophysicist and an economist from the United States are starting to campaign this week for the international adoption of a fixed schedule, in which years are identical, and will include a weekly day of rest and an additional week every five or six years. In this calendar, for example, if Christmas this year fell on a Sunday, it will also fall on the same day of the week in 2012, 2013 and so on. "The idea of a fixed ...
