Released in 1998, it's pre-9/11, and dang if this wasn't prophetic. If you haven't seen it since it came out, I recommend it it again. If you haven't seen it at all, then you're a doofus.

Death of the Keyboard: Laser-Guided Typing

Here's a quick and easy way to decide if you're cut out to be a forensic scientist; flip over your keyboard and shake. If not immediately disgusted by the detritus and DNA that comes sprinkling down, congrats! CSI Milwaukee can use you! And the rest of you? Take heart. Because revolting, bulky and breakable keyboards could soon be a quaint memory when the last vestige of the typewriter is replaced by lasers and sensors. The Celluon Magic Cube is among the first wave of virtual keyboards to hit the market, a device that projects keys of light on to any flat surface, interprets your finger-tapping and sends each p and q to any Bluetooth device. Canada's Harper Tories endorse heroin research project

Days after the Supreme Court of Canada’s rejection of Ottawa’s hard-line approach to heroin addiction, the Harper government is endorsing a research project in Vancouver that administers free heroin to hard-core addicts. The aim of the groundbreaking trial, known as SALOME, is to determine whether a powerful, but legal, opiate, hydromorphone, can wean injection drug users away from addictive drugs as effectively as simply giving them heroin itself. It follows on a controversial clinical trial, which began under the federal Liberals, that did prescribe heroin to addicts in an effort to improve their lives and get them into treatment. The NAOMI experiment found that diehard ...

So, who is the danger to world peace? -- b_w, 22:42:51 10/11/11 Tue Since the 1979 Iranian revolution and the downfall of the US Puppet Ruler the Shah, Iran has been an Islamic state. In that interval of time, 1979 to the present, Iran has not invaded anyone. Not once. People of all religions live in peace in Iran, even Jews, who find life so comfortable in Iran they refused an offer by the government of Israel to emigrate! In the same period of time, the United States, officially a secular nation but predominantly Christian, attacked El Salvador (1980), Libya (1981), Sinai (1982), Lebanon (1982 1983), Egypt (1983), Grenada (1983), Honduras (1983), Chad (1983), Persian Gulf (1984), Libya ...

Has it finally happened? Did scientists find real evidence of the existence of a hairy bipedal creature known as the Siberian Snowman or Siberian Yeti? Researchers are claiming they are 95 percent sure that the fabled Russian version of the Abominable Snowman or Bigfoot lives in the Kemerovo region of Siberia. Last week, a group of international scientists met in Moscow and then set out to the remote mountainous area in search of the elusive creature (depicted below). Depicted is an illustration of a creature reported to inhabit the Kemerovo region of Siberia. Scientists from the U.S., Russia and other countries are planning expeditions to try and find one of these creatures known as ...

A DC airport ticket agent offers some examples of 'why' our country is in trouble: 1. I had a New Hampshire Congresswoman (Carol Shea-Porter) ask for an aisle seat so that her hair wouldn't get messed up by being near the window. (On an airplane!) 2. I got a call from a Kansas Congressman's (Moore) staffer (Howard Bauleke), who wanted to go to Capetown. I started to explain the length of the flight and the passport information, and then he interrupted me with, ''I'm not trying to make you look stupid, but Capetown is in Massachusetts .....'' Without trying to make him look stupid, I calmly explained, ''Cape Cod is in Massachusetts , Capetown is ...

A Saturday morning of shopping turned into an emergency hazmat situation at a Baltimore Walmart where two patrons threw bleach and disinfectant at one another, officials said. Baltimore County Police responded to a call at about 10:48 a.m. Saturday and found two women fighting inside the store. The bleach and disinfectant created toxic fumes, forcing the immediate evacuation of the entire Arbutus store, officials told ABC News affiliate ABC 2. It closed for several hours. Fire, EMS and hazardous materials units were dispatched to the scene, as well as 10 medics. Nineteen people reportedly received treatment, including three Walmart employees. One person was taken to the Wilmer Eye ...

George Harrison: Living in the Material WorldBy John W. Whitehead 10/3/2011 "Sometimes I feel like I'm actually on the wrong planet, and it's great when I'm in my garden, but the minute I go out the gate I think: 'What the hell am I doing here?'"--George HarrisonBy the time he was 21 years old, George Harrison--along with John Lennon, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr--had conquered the pop world. Within a few years, when the so-called "Summer of Love" swept over the world, the Beatles had invaded Western consciousness to a degree unmatched before or since. In June 1967, the Beatles released their legendary Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band ...

Even though it was never a top 25 show, The Twilight Zone was an oasis in television wasteland that captured a generation. However, it almost didn't happen. Its subject matter troubled television executives, and the fact that the episodes often left viewers hanging went against formula.I was barely 13 when I saw the pilot episode, "Where Is Everybody?" Car-free Sunday for smog-struck Milan

The northern Italian city of Milan is banning all traffic from its streets for 10 hours on Sunday in an attempt to reduce smog. The measure, first imposed on a trial basis in 2007, is triggered whenever pollution exceeds the statutory limit for 12 consecutive days. Satellite imagery shows Milan to be one of the most polluted cities in Europe. An estimated 120,000 vehicles will be affected by the move, according to the Corriere della Sera newspaper. The most polluting vehicles have been banned from driving through the city centre since Thursday. But on Sunday, there will be no traffic at all permitted between 0800 and 1800 local time (07:00-17:00 GMT). The ban is imposed when ...

Stinky tofu - a delicacy for some

It's the deep-fried taste, it's the crispy crunch, and it's the stench. It's stinky tofu, the iconic "bizarre food" that you can never forget once you've tried it, or even had a whiff of it. Stinky tofu is made by soaking fresh tofu in a brine of salt and fermented vegetables. It sounds vile, but once you get past the stench, it is actually a healthy snack. Years ago in Hong Kong, stinky tofu was sold by hawkers with their little wooden carts outside subway stations. They would deep-fry the squares of tofu in bubbling oil and serve it piping hot. However, protests from people with sensitive noses, who found the wafting odor offensive, has made it a lot harder ...

Owners baffled by theft of 50-foot-long Pa. bridge NEW CASTLE, Pa. — A 50-foot-long bridge in western Pennsylvania has been stolen, and its owners say they're baffled by the crime and have no idea who took it. New Castle Development spokesman Gary Bruce said Friday that he "couldn't believe it when they told me it was gone." A state police report says the 20-foot-wide span in North Beaver Township went missing between Sept. 27 and Wednesday. The bridge was made out of corrugated steel and valued at about $100,000. Thieves used a blowtorch to cut it apart, presumably to sell it for scrap metal. The bridge was used occasionally as a back entrance to the company ...

A grim Federal Security Services (FSB) report on Prime Minister Putin’s plan to meet China’s leader Hu Jintao in Beijing next week warns that both Russian and Chinese military forces are being placed on their ‘highest alert’ in anticipation of a massive land invasion believed being planned by the United States of both the Middle East and Central Asia. The plans for this “Total Global War” the Americans are preparing to launch were first revealed to China’s Ministry of State Security (MSS) by the former Blackwater mercenary Bryan Underwood who is currently being held by US authorities for spying and which we reported on in our 4 October report titled ...
