Restaurants Like, Even Court ‘Lunatic Customers’ Adam Moore once drove 500 miles just to eat a burrito at a Chipotle he'd never been to. Alan Klein is working on a smartphone app to help fellow enthusiasts track down the transient McRib sandwich. And Ben Skelton made an unusual choice for best man in his upcoming wedding: the Chick-fil-A cow. "I've already told my best man that he's going to be my second-string best man," said Skelton, a 28-year-old chaplain's assistant in the Air National Guard. "I just haven't told him that he got beat out by a cow." Call it fanaticism or simply dedication, but these are the type of ...

These guys are trying to pretend otherwise just because they got nothin' else to talk about but feel like talkin' shite to someone. Pathetic really. It's not pathetic, it's planned. How more obvious does it have to be? Rudgear put it best in his exchange with Fibr Dog: I believe money is changing hands. The purpose of LP is obvious: discredit conservatives and libertarians by allowing a hardcore group of statist posters to masquerade as conservative to set up shop in order to discredit discussion by derailing thread after thread with Neocon bullshit and alienating potential newcomers with their antics. The owner knows what shes doing, and more importantly, which side ...

Getting McLuhan's message

Thanks Marshall, I think we've finally got the message... Marshall McLuhan's ideas about media seem more insightful than ever 'A prophet is not without honour", says the Bible, "save in his own country." This was manifestly not true in the case of Marshall McLuhan, the Canadian cultural critic, who was born 100 years ago last Thursday, and was famous not only in his own country, but also abroad. In fact, he's the only public intellectual I can think of who played himself in a Woody Allen movie. Film buffs will recall the wonderful sequence in Annie Hall, where Woody and Diane Keaton are queuing for a movie when a guy behind them starts opining pompously ...

(Reuters) - Customers at an apparent Apple Store in the Chinese city of Kunming berated staff and demanded refunds on Friday after the shop was revealed to be an elaborate fake, sparking a media and Internet frenzy. Long a target of counterfeiters and unauthorized resellers, Apple Inc was alerted to the near flawless fake shop by an American blogger living in the southwestern city, more than 1,000 miles from the nearest genuine Apple stores in Beijing and Shanghai. "When I heard the news I rushed here immediately to get the receipt, I am so upset," a customer surnamed Wang told Reuters, near tears. "With a store this big, it looks so believable who would have thought it ...

Can Urban Agriculture Feed a Hungry World?
Post Date: 2011-07-23 03:53:30 by Tatarewicz

Agricultural researchers believe that building indoor farms in the middle of cities could help solve the world's hunger problem. Experts say that vertical farming could feed up to 10 billion people and make agriculture independent of the weather and the need for land. There's only one snag: The urban farms need huge amounts of energy. One day, Choi Kyu Hong might find himself in a vegetable garden on the 65th floor of a skyscraper. But, so far, his dream of picking fresh vegetables some 200 meters (655 feet) up has only been realized in hundreds of architectural designs. In real life, the agricultural scientist remains far below such dizzying heights, conducting his work in a ...

The group was using sonar to plumb the depths of the waters, hoping to find shipwrecks that might contain treasures they could sell. The Ocean Explorer team isn't sure what to make of this strange discovery that some are calling a crashed UFO, but they've released more information about it. Here you can see Peter Lindberg, from the Swedish Ocean Explorer team that ...

On Wednesday, in the trial for a Philadelphia family’s inheritance of 1933 double eagle gold coins, the jury reached a verdict. Joan Langbord, 81, and her two sons lost their case to maintain ownership of the 10 gold coins. The double eagle coins, minted in 1933, were $20 coins that were recalled by the U.S. Treasury that same year when Franklin Delano Roosevelt took the country off the gold standard. At the time, all 445,500 coins were to be melted down, and they should have been gone by 1937, with the exception of two coins saved for the Smithsonian. Joan Langbord’s father, jeweler Israel Switt, came into possession of a number of these coins, illegally, according to the ...

Of 1,009 Canadians surveyed, one-third said they would give up their phone to keep online and television services. One-fifth of Canadians polled in a new survey said they would turn down a million dollars in order to keep their Internet access - a possible sign that our reliance on the World Wide Web is slowly catching up to the television and phone, telecom experts say. Should people build their own houses?

The government wants to double the number of people building their own homes. But is it wise to encourage the population to take up DIY housebuilding? Programmes like Grand Designs tap into the desire to build your dream home. Now the government - keen to raise the stubbornly low housebuilding rate - wants to start "a self build revolution". Housing Minister Grant Shapps will later this week launch an action plan to double the number of self-build homes within a decade. In reality, few Britons follow the Grand Designs model. The show's creator Kevin McCloud argues that Britons buy houses like baked beans - as generic products from a developer's catalogue - rather than ...

Now, the 32-year-old father is sitting in his farmhouse in rural Manitoba, frustrated by a system that has left him caring for a young family with a whopping speeding ticket and a suspended license. Weber plans to appeal the license suspension at a hearing with Manitoba Public Insurance next week - but first, he hopes to be publicly heard. On March 21, Weber and his wife Genevieve, 29, were on their way back to their spacious hobby farm outside Portage la Prairie, Man., after a day spent shopping in Winnipeg. Stir-crazy kids are allowed and encouraged to bounce off the walls at a new, indoor trampoline park that opens today in North Austin. Adults, too. Jumpoline Park, carved out of a former Albertson's at 13801 Burnet Road near MoPac Boulevard (Loop 1), features a specially made trampoline that spans almost 10,000 square feet — half the facility's size. "Our goal is to help kids get healthier," said Jumpoline Park President and CEO John Roh. "This is so much better than spending the entire day in front of a computer." Roh said research shows an hour on a trampoline can burn 400 to 600 calories, making the park an option for gym-weary adults, as well. ...
