In an attempt to prove their claim, Desi demonstrated that an HP MediaSmart computer’s facial-tracking software could not follow the movements of his face, but it could do so just fine for his white friend Wanda. “As soon as White Wanda appears, the camera moves,” Desi says in the video. “Black Desi gets in there — nope! No face recognition anymore, ...

Black Education Walter E. Williams Tuesday, December 22, 2009 Detroit's (predominantly black) public schools are the worst in the nation and it takes some doing to be worse than Washington, D.C. Only 3 percent of Detroit's fourth-graders scored proficient on the most recent National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP) test, sometimes called "The Nation's Report Card." Twenty-eight percent scored basic and 69 percent below basic. "Below basic" is the NAEP category when students are unable to demonstrate even partial mastery of knowledge and skills fundamental for proficient work at their grade level. It's the same story for Detroit's ...

To: is_is Well, we criss-crossed the country three times this year, once by air and twice by caravan putting on protests, rallies and conventions. Had lots of help paying the bills but still ended up borrowing 13G and running up our credit cards (mine, Amy’s, John’s and Chris’) to the hilt. Have no idea how we’re going to pay the bills, the debt, and still get to DC again in April and October next year. But we gotta go. It’s too important not to. Doubt I’ll be hiring any employees anytime soon. 235 posted on December 20, 2009 6:19:39 PM MST by Jim Robinson Poster Comment:Guess the grift-a-thon is on again. By ALICE PARK Alice Park – Sat Dec 19, 12:40 am ET Most people regard watching television as a passive activity. You sit, you watch. Occasionally, you change the channel. But a new study reveals that even this passive diversion may lead to actively damaging effects, particularly when it comes to issues of race. In a series of intricately designed experiments, psychologists at Tufts University demonstrate that subtle racial biases are often expressed by characters on popular television shows, and that viewers not only pick up these attitudes but allow them to shape their own outlooks on race. The most insidious part of this cultural traffic, the researchers ...

I suppose this won't go down well with some here, but I think it's best to come out and say it before the rumors & speculation take hold since after they do, it'll be impossible to erase any inaccuracies. (I've already experienced that). TOS2 has been upgraded to the latest version of Pinguinite software, and yes, I did the work. I did it for 3 reasons: 1) It was a decent paying gig; 2) It's what I do for a living; 3) Free speech isn't such a bad idea after all. (Goldi's, whether or not she allows it for others who post there. Fact is, forums offer free speech only for the owners, no exceptions. Everyone else only posts at the owner's whims). I was ...

My Grown Up Christmas List Music by David Foster Lyrics by Linda Thompson Do you remember me I sat upon your knee I wrote to you With childhood fantasies Well, I'm all grown up now Can you still help somehow I'm not a child But my heart still can dream So here's my lifelong wish My grown-up Christmas list Not for myself But for a world in need No more lives torn apart That wars would never start And time would heal all hearts Every man would have a friend That right would always win And love would never end This is my grown-up Christmas list What is this illusion called The innocence of youth Maybe only in their blind belief Can we ever find the truth There'd be no ...

SAO PAULO -- Surgeons successfully removed the four most life-threatening needles from the lung and heart area of a Brazilian toddler, and are evaluating when to extract dozens more allegedly stuck deep into the boy by his stepfather. Police say 30-year-old bricklayer Roberto Carlos Magalhaes confessed to pushing the metal sewing needles into the 2-year-old child because his lover told him to while in trances. The rituals were performed over a month supposedly to keep the couple together. Late Friday, the child was in stable condition after nearly five hours of surgery to remove the four needles, which were up to 2 inches (5 centimeters), said Susy Moreno, a spokeswoman for the hospital ...

LAS VEGAS -- A Las Vegas teacher has been told to stay home while district officials investigate a claim that she denied in class the Holocaust happened, a newspaper reported Friday. Clark County schools spokesman Michael Rodriguez said Northwest Career and Technical Academy teacher Lori Sublette was assigned to remain home, and appropriate action would follow an investigation. Student Katie Piranio told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that Sublette said during a Nov. 25 class that history books were inaccurate and Nazis in World War II lacked the technology to kill millions of Jews. Sublette did not immediately return a message left by The Associated Press seeking comment. The ...

In A Voyage To The Houyhnhnms Gulliver was describing law as a profession and those who practice it to his "Master." This is an excerpt from that dissertation. I assured his Honour that Law was a Science wherein I had not much conversed, further than by employing Advocates, in vain, upon some Injustices that had been done me. However, I would give him all the Satisfaction I was able. I said there was a Society of Men among us, bred up from their Youth in the Art of proving by Words multiplied for the Purpose, that White is Black, and Black is White, according as they are paid. To this Society all the rest of the People are Slaves. For Example, If my Neighbour hath a mind to my ...

Of course it isn't. Then why is it bailing out Banks that belong to the Federal Reserve? It is just 'sucking the money' out of the US citizens.

Millions of Americans go to the box office during the Christmas holiday season. This year, it is expected herds will go see James Cameron's Avatar and Clint Eastwood's Invictus. Not me. I haven't been the movie theater since I saw Pirates of the Carribean (3) back in 2007. Very disappointing as was installment number two. You see, as I wrote many years ago in a column: I don't like what Hollywood sells and so I don't put money in their pocket because I don't 'need' what they call entertainment. Also, as a personal preference, I don't like all these electronic movies where the art of acting has been lost. Yes, I loved the first three Star Wars. Yes, the ...

It is near the Christmas break of the school year. The students have turned in all their work and there is really nothing more to do. All the children are restless and the teacher decides to have an early dismissal. Teacher: "Whoever answers the questions I ask, first and correctly can leave early today." Little Johnny says to himself "Good, I want to get outta here. I'm smart and will answer the question." Teacher: "Who said 'Four Score and Seven Years Ago'?" Before Johnny can open his mouth, Susie says, "Abraham Lincoln." Teacher: "That's right Susie, you can go home." Johnny is mad that Susie answered the ...

Mel Gibson will direct and Leonardo DiCaprio will star in an untitled period drama about Viking culture. William Monahan is writing the script. Graham King will produce with Gibson and Tim Headington in a co-production of King’s GK Films and Gibson’s Icon Prods. Shooting is expected to begin in fall 2010, meaning that if everything falls into place, it would be the next directing effort for Gibson. There is no distributor at the moment, but Gibson and King often make their films outside the studio system and secure distribution later. The principals confirmed the project but would not divulge many details. DiCaprio, who has long been fascinated by Viking culture, will play one ...
