Avatar Review: We Have the Technology. Now What? It’s an intriguing paradox--the success of a film as technologically elaborate and ambitious as James Cameron’s Avatar will come down to a simple question: Will audiences marvel at the movie’s groundbreaking production methods enough to forgive Cameron's curious choice to frame everything on a script that is, almost above all else, obsessed with the evils of technology in the wrong hands? Not only did Cameron wait more than a decade to make his more than $300 million passion project, but he spurred the invention of the cutting edge equipment to make his creation possible. The construction of a new dual-lens 3-D shooting ...

Christmas Books

Christmas Books Thomas Sowell Tuesday, December 15, 2009 One way to reduce the wear and tear of Christmas shopping at the mall is to give books as presents. Books can be bought on the Internet, and they can be matched to the person who receives them without having to know that person's measurements. Dick Morris' new book -- "Catastrophe"-- is an education in itself, on politics, on economics and on foreign policy. It is a strong antidote to the pious rhetoric and spin that come out of Washington and the media. Partly this is because Dick Morris was once a Beltway insider-- an adviser to President Bill Clinton-- who knows first-hand the ugly realities behind the pretty ...

December 14, 2009 Letters to the EditorThe Denver Post101 W. Colfax AvenueDenver, CO 80202 Editor: I commend Tiger Woods on his decision to step aside from golf indefinitely to deal with his personal issues. Even though he has made numerous bad decisions, we should applaud this one. A lot of politicians could learn from Tiger. Sports and politics are two places where adultery is out of control. Regardless of party, politicians have been notorious for their involvement in sex scandals.  Let every elected and aspiring public official who is or has been involved in adultery do what Tiger Woods has done: just walk away. Resign from office or withdraw from the race! If ...

The 'Princess' and Walt DisneyDisney Studio has a long and complex history on racial issues By Neal Gabler Special to Tribune Newspapers December 7, 2009 Even before it opens later this week, Disney's new animated feature, "The Princess and the Frog," is already considered something of a cultural and animation landmark. After centering cartoons on a Middle Easterner ("Aladdin"), a Native American (" Pocahontas"), an Asian ("Mulan") and a Hawaiian ("Lilo & Stitch"), Disney animation has entered the post-racial era. The new film features a black protagonist alongside a green one. It has been a long time coming, but it is ...

One day, Boudreaux was sitting on his porch and a truck drove up to Boudreaux's house and a man stepped out. The man introduced himself to Boudreaux, told Boudreaux that he was from Texas, and that he was getting some information about land in the area. The Texan said, "Mr. Boudreaux, how much land do you have here where you live?" Boudreaux said, "Mais, I have about two acres." The Texan said, "That's not much land. Back in Texas where I'm from, it takes me just about all day to drive my truck down my driveway to my house." Boudreaux thinks about what the Texan said for a while and then responds, "Yeah, I used to have a truck like ...

Why we can't let Tiger Woods off the hook for alleged affairs with a 'sex addiction' defense [Full Thread]

In Britain's News of the World - whose editors and readers have such an insatiable appetite for sex scandals that the tabloid is fondly called "Screws of the World" - an addictions manager at North London's Priory Clinic says declaratively of a beleaguered Tiger Woods, "I see him as ill, not bad." Here it comes. Amid all the sordid details of Tiger's numerous "transgressions," we should now prepare ourselves for a forthcoming announcement by a very somber-looking Woods spokesman, or perhaps even by the golfer himself, that Tiger is, in fact, a sex addict. We can stop questioning his character, for this - we're being told - is a medical ...

Poll: Congressmen Less Trustworthy Than Car Salesmen Jillian Rayfield | December 9, 2009, 12:25PM A new Gallup poll finds that a majority of Americans think that the ethical standards of America's congressional representatives are "low/very low" -- meaning they're viewed as being more dishonest than car salesmen. The poll finds that 55% of respondents believe members of Congress have low ethical standards. This marks a big increase from 2008, when only 46% believed so, and also more than doubles the 21% from November 2000. At the same time, only 9% of respondents describe the honesty of Congressional representatives as high or very high. Senators themselves did ...

Thomas The Tank Engine branded 'right-wing, conservative and demeaning to women' By David Wilkes Last updated at 6:22 PM on 09th December 2009 Generations of children have grown up enjoying the adventures of Thomas the Tank Engine. It is probably pretty safe to say that few of them, however, have ever pondered the socio-political sub-text of the charming stories. If they had, they would have discovered the cheeky little train and his friends live in a world blighted by a 'conservative political ideology' and a rigid class system that stifles self-expression, according to startling new academic research. Thomas The Tank Engine: Demeaning to women Thomas The Tank ...

Tensions at S. Phila. High Longstanding, Students Say By Kristen A. Graham, Peter Mucha and Robert Moran INQUIRER STAFF WRITERS Fifty Asian students who fear for their safety today boycotted South Philadelphia High, where after dismissal others said racial tensions have long been a fact of life there. "It's been going on for years," senior Danni Glenn said. "Now it's getting bigger and bigger." The Asian students - who will stay out of school for a week to study, investigate a series of attacks that happened last week, and meet with community leaders - hope for resolution, but Glenn isn't optimistic. She said whatever the school or other authorities have ...

Notice they say Spraying Twice - Once very fast - they say "Spraying" then they say "people will get sick as Hell - Helicopters will Spray your asses with Viruses" and then they show a helicopter spraying. They say - "your ears will bleed" in the beginning - at the very end, they say "you will literally be Underground". I find these things of interest, considering, part of the PTB "moral codes" are to tell the people in advance what will be happening to them, in one way or another. If you look back in history - we have always been forewarned about what is going to happen. It is from my understanding part of the PTB rules "The people ...
