It’s Red Joke vs. Blue Joke in ‘The Hunt’

We asked the director to break down the jokes in the controversial new movie out this Friday In the new movie “The Hunt,” the blood runs red and blue. The action thriller, a bombastic satire about liberal “elites” making a sport of trying to kill a dozen conservative “deplorables,” attempts to expose how red-state and blue-state Americans have demonized each other. It also calls itself a farce, with violence so extreme it borders on cartoon—like when a character is not only skewered by spikes but blown in half, too. “What if the craziest conspiracy theories that you would think about another group of people were true?” asks director Craig ...

Americans Shouldn’t Have to Drive, but the Law Insists on It

The automobile took over because the legal system helped squeeze out the alternatives. In a country where the laws compel the use of cars, Americans are condemned to lose friends and relatives to traffic violence. My childhood neighbor was a varsity student-athlete, the president of the junior class, and the most popular girl in school. One day in September 1995, a car crash took her life. She had been driving home on the freeway when her car went across the median and collided with one going the opposite direction, killing both drivers. A third vehicle was said to have struck her car moments before, causing her to lose control. The police put out a call for information, apparently ...

Flat Trigger Vs. Curved Trigger March 2, 2020 During the Vietnam War, U.S. Marine Corps snipers were known for their lethal accuracy. One such sniper was Carlos Norman Hathcock II, who had an incredible kill record of 93. While fighting in Vietnam, Hathcock gained such a level of notoriety that the North Vietnamese put a $30,000 bounty on his head. This was a surprisingly high number as bounties on U.S. snipers ranged usually from $10 – $2000. Hathcock loved to accentuate his character and kept a white feather tied to a band in his bush hat. For this, the Vietnamese called Hathcock, “Du kích Lông Trắng”, which in English means White Feather Sniper. ...

I need to rent a car or something for a gal that's going to visit her sister's dying husband. She wanted to drive from Ft. Wayne, IN, to Tampa, FL, but at 72, she shouldn't. Me and her son that can't be there for her bought airplane tics, but apparently with the kids & spring break going on, you can't rent a sensible car for anything at a decent rate. If anybody's down there, buying a car and turning it back in at a reasonable loss isn't out of the question. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Her son, Jon was here at my joint for 10+hrs figuring out how to get the flight for her, but daymn, it shouldn't cost $60+/day for a compact. Help me ...

150 Years Ago, a Philosopher Showed Why It’s Pointless to Start Arguments on the Internet

Don’t feed the trolls. Wildly inaccurate facts and spurious arguments are unavoidable features of social media. Yet no matter how infuriatingly wrong someone is, or just how much counter-evidence you have at your disposal, starting arguments on the internet rarely gets anyone to change their mind. Nearly a century-and-a-half ago, British philosopher John Stuart Mill explained, in a few clear sentences, why certain arguments simply won’t go anywhere. As historian Robert Saunders notes, Mill’s analysis neatly applies to heated and futile internet debates. You just feel like you just got put in the wrong body.” With the support of his parents, Mimi and Joe Lemay, Jacob socially transitioned when he was just 5 years old. The couple said the journey was not initially easy, and they struggled as Jacob pulled away from them. “It was almost like he was a thousand miles away from us and retreating,” Mimi Lemay said of Jacob’s pre-transition years. “It wasn't ...

Although no one wants to admit it, people across all demographics are spending less time in the sack. For couples who live together, married couples, and older people in general, the decline in how much sex they have is even more staggering, per a 2019 study of British adults and teens.
