There was once a small brick barbeque joint on Divisadero Street in San Francisco known as Da’ Pitt. Its customer base was small, but loyal, comprised mostly of low-income African-American families. Though no one travelled more than walking distance to get there, nor wrote about it on Urbanspoon, it fed its community and it was loved. But the neighborhood gentrified, the community dwindled, and Da’Pitt could no longer serve enough BBQ to pay its rent. Another company, 4505 Meats, took over the space. They put wood tables outside and painted the exterior. They added a vegetarian sandwich, an organic salad, and beers on tap to the menu. They hired young, bearded, and beanied ...

ScienceAlert... A 26-year-old woman went in to have what she assumed to be a brain tumour removed… but surgeons actually pulled out what they believe to be an undeveloped embryonic twin, complete with hair, teeth and bone. Indiana University PhD student Yamini Karanam first went to see doctors when she started getting bad headaches and struggling with reading- and listening- comprehension, and they quickly spotted a rapidly growing pea-sized tumour on her pineal gland. But they've now discovered the mass was actually a 'teratoma' - a mysterious type of tumour that contains its own tissue and even organs. Although scientists still aren't entirely sure what causes ...

Valdosta State University found itself in the center of a controversy after a video shared on social media showed an Air Force veteran, Michelle Manhart, taking an American flag away from demonstrators who had walked on it to protest racism. Posted by Middleton Rural Fire District on Friday, April 17, 2015 Parrots are smart, but nothing quite shows that like this story out of Middleton, Idaho: Firefighters rescuing two parrots from a house fire because one shouted "help!” and "fire!” I called up the Middleton Fire Department, our intrepid saviors of parrots, and talked to Victor Isals, the EMS/community relations officer. "On Friday, April 17, at around 9:23 p.m., we received a notification of a structure on fire,” he told me. "Our first company ...

The family of Joseph Goebbels is suing Random House for royalties from a new biography, which draws extensively on the diaries written by Hitler’s minister of propaganda. The publisher's lawyer insists “no money should go to a war criminal.” Cordula Schacht, whose father was Hitler's minister of economics, is representing Joseph Goebbels' estate in the case against Random House Germany and its imprint Sidler over the biography written by professor of modern German history at Royal Holloway, University of London, Peter Longerich. Longerich used the diaries for his ‘Goebbels’ biography published in Germany in 2010. The same extracts from the diaries are ...

Want... A crested myna in Taichung, central Taiwan, was returned home safe and sound after repeatedly bombarding the thief with one question: "Why did you take me away?" local police said Friday. The species, known for its ability to imitate human voices, was stolen April 14 by a woman who had earlier tried unsuccessfully to buy the bird from its owner. The thief soon realized the bird was not something to be trifled with. The bird, named "Money More More," kept pestering the 56-year-old by saying in Taiwanese: "Why did you take me away?" When the police found her the next day after checking surveillance cameras, the thief did not hesitate to return the ...

Medscape... Crime, like medicine, has its own fee schedule. New York cardiologist Anthony Moschetto, DO, had one when he conspired to harm a fellow cardiologist he practiced with for 20 years, according to state prosecutors: $5000 to have his former colleague beaten to the point of hospitalization and $20,000 to have him killed. "He wanted to put him out of business so he could get his business," said Nassau County Assistant District Attorney Anne Donnelly in a news conference earlier this week. All Dr Moschetto managed to pull off was an unsuccessful attempt on February 25 to burn down the other physician's office in Great Neck, New York, where he once worked, authorities ...

According to this report, SVR electronic intelligence analysts tasked with overseeing their American counterparts this past week indentified a series of mysterious communications between the United States Special Operations Command (SOCOM), located at MacDill Air Force Base (MCF) in Tampa, Florida, their ...

That's just $1.38 per meal for a week. However, Gwyneth only made it just four days. The 42-year-old Iron Man actress blogged about the short-lived experience on GOOP. STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Calling the ruling "another win for transparency," a state judge has ordered the New York City Fire Pension Fund to release the names and pension amounts of its retirees to a fiscal watchdog group. The Empire Center, a conservative organization which posts government salaries and pensions on its website, stated "taxpayers have a right to know" and once the information is provided, it will be available on SeeThroughNY.net, the center's "transparency website." The Uniformed Fire Officers Association Local 854 and the Uniformed Firefighters Association Local 94 last year sued to block release of the pension information, citing the need ...

Minnesota Senate Reaffirms Ban on Eye Contact

sputnik... The Minnesota Senate, perhaps trying to make its chambers more like a first grade classroom, this week reaffirmed a rule that forbids lawmakers from looking at one another, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press. Instead, speakers engaged in a floor debate must gaze at the Senate president, currently Sandy Tappas, who’s certain to be the most popular girl in class. That’s right. Lawmakers, presumably elected to office by constituents, voted to reaffirm a rule that demands “Eyes up front.” That means the rule was already on the books. But unlike one of those outdated laws that survived for years by going unnoticed, this rule will live on precisely because ...

Why did Hitler confiscate this asset?

One asset, which few people even know exists, was arguably the most valuable part of Hitler’s looted inventory… “It’s bigger than gold, it’s bigger than jewelry, it’s bigger than bank accounts,” according to the World Jewish Congress. Today, this asset is once again available throughout the Western world… And again, powerful groups are trying to hoard it—including America’s wealthiest senator and two presidential candidates. This single asset has the power to make you very wealthy over time… and, unlike most investments of its kind, is perfectly accessible to the average person. [Click here to see how it works…] ...

To those that know what Easter is all about. Those that do realize that the original reason for celebrating Easter should be celebrated daily in one's heart. If there is any hope for humanity it is Christ. Without Christ there is no hope. And not to confuse Christ with what passes for the Christian faith in this world which he denounced.
