For the last few months, massive holes have been mysteriously appearing in parts of Russia. Now, some scientists have an interesting theory that would connect famous ship disappearances in the famed "Bermuda Triangle" to the Siberian mystery holes. A study released by Science in Siberia, a weekly journal from the Siberian branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, suggested a possible tie between the two faraway incidents, according to the Siberian Times. Scientists suspect the Siberian craters were created by underground methane deposits that were trapped beneath the surface, exploding upward when permafrost melted that was trapping it. According to the Science in Siberia ...

RT... When an aircraft taking off with a lot of fuel on board and maximum speed hits something metal on its way, sparks alongside heat and pressure are inevitable, and this is catastrophic for any plane, Head of Aviation at Australia's CQ University Ron Bishop told RT. RT: What are the usual measures to control airport staff and an airport’s readiness for a flight? Ron Bishop: You see, what they do, is they screen employees very well, they also do drug testing to make sure they are not on any kinds of drugs, they make sure that they do a background check to ensure that none of this is habitual, that they are not used to doing this. Although this is quite concerning because if ...

Preparing for a real-life gunfight isn't the same as training at the range. The mental stress you'll experience when your life is on the line is a survival aspect you can't ignore - but one that few gun-owners know how to add to their training. You see, in a real gunfight, you're not only going to have to shoot to stop your attacker, but you're also going to have to think of other things like... * What's your best escape route? * Is your family in a safe location? * Should I move to another location for better cover? * Are there other attackers in your home? * How many rounds do I have left? Juggling all of these mental decisions at the same time as ...

“I’m Gonna Blow Your Damn Head Off!” (Should You Draw?) by Peyton Quinn Man Pointing Gun jeff-andersonNothing like a little testosterone to get the party started, right? The number of fights (even deaths) that happen as a result of injured pride and heavy threats has to fall into the “insanely common” column and I’m sure you’ve seen your share of brawls break out after harsh words are exchanged, haven’t you? Threats like “I’m gonna kick your ass!” and “I’m going to blow your head off!” could be enough to get your trigger finger itchy if you have a big beefy bully spitting those words in your face. Poster Comment:A reminder to think before you do something this stupid. I know someone who was riding with her brother and her brother thought he could make it to an exit which was to his right and one which he should have passed up and went on to the next one and came back. Instead he cut in front of a tractor trailer, probably thinking he could beat it, and he didn't. As a result he almost killed his sister, took most of her right arm off iirc. No appointment, no excuse is evenly remotely a justification for doing something this dumb while driving. Some things can’t be undone.

He stands accused by the Russian authorities of embezzling some 14 billion rubles, more than €400,000 million at the time, when he was finance minister for the Moscow region between 2005 and 2008. Medscape... NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Motorcycle injuries requiring a trip to the hospital have increased in recent years among older male riders, while injury rates for women and younger men haven't changed, according to a new study from Canada. The spike in injuries among men over 45 suggests that more male Baby Boomers are taking to two wheels as a leisure activity, and they may need training and other injury prevention strategies, say the researchers. "We were surprised by the extent of the increase in injuries among older men motorcycle riders," said Mariana Brussoni of the British Columbia Injury Research and Prevention Unit, who led the study published in the BC ...

Pravda...Some parents may give very unusual names to their newborn babies. In Russia, the choice of names for babies can be very unusual too, for example, Dawn (Rassvet), Moon (Luna), or Oceana. Yet, the choice of parents from the city of Perm shocked the whole country. They called their baby boy Lucifer. Twenty-four-year-old mother explained her choice by the fact that she and her husband were "Satanists". "I wanted to name him Lucian, but my husband wanted another name - Lucifer. My labor was very complicated, and I promised that if the baby survived, we'd call him Lucifer. All went well, so I kept my promise," the boy's mother, Natalia Menshikova told PRM.ru ...

ScienceAlert: Telepathy might sound like science fiction, but scientists have already achieved direct brain-to-brain communication between humans...and they've managed to read the minds of cats too. Telepathy may be best known in science fiction, but over the past 20 years, scientists have made huge breakthroughs in achieving "mind links" in real life, as the latest episode of BrainCraft explains. And, naturally, it all started with cats. In the late 1990s, scientists connected electrodes to the visual areas of cats' brains while they watched a film. This allowed them to "hack" into their thoughts, and replay the movie through the eyes of the cats. Put simply, ...

Three hunters ran into a bear who seemed unafraid of people in the forests of Russia’s Khanty-Mansiisk autonomous region. After being shot by one of the men in the thigh, the bear left. But in the morning the unlucky hunter found his car ripped apart by the revengeful animal, he believes. Whoever it was, the car was left scratched with smashed windscreen and broken lights, while the front and rear seats were torn almost to pieces. Poster Comment:Maybe it was bigfoot, not a bear.

Does the Age of Online Education Herald the Death of Academics?

Epoch Times... In the mid-1980s as a further education lecturer I was mocked by some more traditional colleagues for using “lantern slides”, their term for the then newfangled technology of the overhead projector, or OHP. These Luddites strutted the corridors with coffee-tinted sheaves of notes stuffed untidily under their arms. They would sweep into the classroom, fling their pencil-written papyri on the lectern and, without so much as a glance at their students, commence reading out loud. They seemed to think that their exegesis of the sacred texts of economics and business studies was blessed with a natural authority. The students concurred. Even when I projected my plastic ...

RT... It seems that scientists have finally offered some concrete evidence that life after death really does exist, as the largest-ever study into the issue showed that patients could recall intricate details despite being officially declared clinically dead. Researchers based at the UK’s University of Southampton, who were involved in the AWARE (“AWAreness during REsuscitation”) study published in the journalResuscitation, claim that almost 40 percent of people who survived clinical death described some kind of “awareness” during the time before their hearts were restarted. The study, led by Dr. Sam Parnia, from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, ...
