THE FOURTH TURNING ACCELERATING
Post Date: 2014-06-17 16:03:36 by Lorie Meacham

(Jim Quinn) “In retrospect, the spark might seem as ominous as a financial crash, as ordinary as a national election, or as trivial as a Tea Party. The catalyst will unfold according to a basic Crisis dynamic that underlies all of these scenarios: An initial spark will trigger a chain reaction of unyielding responses and further emergencies. The core elements of these scenarios (debt, civic decay, global disorder) will matter more than the details, which the catalyst will juxtapose and connect in some unknowable way. If foreign societies are also entering a Fourth Turning, this could accelerate the chain reaction. At home and abroad, these events will reflect the tearing of the civic ...

Vets Say: No Military Intervention In Iraq

Tell President Obama to Do the Right Thing, DO NOT Intervene in Iraq Veterans For Peace calls on President Obama and Congress to stay out of Iraq. Stop providing arms to the government of Iraq. Do not conduct bombing missions of any sort in Iraq, including drone strikes and do not put troops on the ground. It is clear that after decades of war, adding more weapons and violence to the war torn country is not in the best interest of the Iraqi or American people. U.S. intervention will not stop the violence, it will only add new fuel to an already raging fire. What can you do to help in this moment of crisis?OWFI Join with Iraq Veterans Against the War in supporting the Organization of ...

The veterans who helped commit a crime against humanity with an aggressive US war against Iraq, who helped in the murder by sanctions, bombs, depleted uranium, bullets of more than a million people and the destruction of an ancient society, who fought for Exxon and McDonald-Douglas and the empire, are feeling that their “sacrifices” were not, after all, worth it. Folks. as Ron Paul’s favorite antiwar song points out, the politicians and the generals and the munitions manufacturers can’t do it alone. They need the soldiers, and if young men refuse to fight wars of aggression, there wouldn’t be any more of them.

PressTV... The stories were wrong. No Iranian forces had marched into Iraq. While American drones fly overhead and American aircraft carriers stream into the Persian Gulf, Al Qaeda forces - really American backed Takfiris sick of being pounded by the Syrian army - are moving on Baghdad. American newspapers are already calling it a “color revolution” while President Obama is denying military aid until he receives assurances of “reforms.” Were America not totally complicit here as in Ukraine and Syria and, if carefully examined, staging Boko Haram attacks in Nigeria, in car bombings in Nairobi, a small part of a very large list, Washington’s rhetoric might be ...

“You may not know where places like Baghdad, Aleppo, Tehran or Fallujah are: But if you don’t think what happens there matters to you - you’re wrong! And I don’t care if you live in Beaumont, Texas, New York City or Anaconda Montana: You need to be afraid. Because of his feckless foreign policy (CEO) Obama, is a man with no foreign policy experience, who doesn’t learn a thing from his foreign policy blunders, a man who prefers to surround himself with political operatives: Our nation once the world’s super power, has been minimized on the world’s stage and is neither respected nor feared. KIEV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukraine's interior minister says that three tanks have crossed into Ukrainian territory from Russia and were attacked by his country's forces. The Interfax news agency quoted Arsen Avakov as saying that a "column" with armored vehicles crossed from Russia through border control points controlled by pro-Russian separatists near the Dyakove village in eastern Ukraine. He said vehicles including automobiles and armored personnel carriers crossed the border. He said that three tanks went to the town of Snizhne about 40 kilometers (24.86 miles) from Dyakove. One remained there while two others left in the direction of the town of Horlivka and ...

BEIRUT, Lebanon—Iran deployed Revolutionary Guard forces to fight in Iraq, helping government troops there wrest back control of most of the city of Tikrit from militants, Iranian security sources said. Two battalions of the Quds Forces, the overseas branch of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps that has long operated in Iraq, came to the aid of the besieged, Shiite-dominated government of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, they said. Combined Iraqi-Iranian forces retook control of 85% of Tikrit, the birthplace of former dictator Saddam Hussein, according to Iraqi and Iranian security sources. They were helping guard the capital Baghdad and the two Shiite holy cities of Najaf and ...

Iraq Gives Obama Green Light To Commence “Kinetic Support” Against Al Qaeda

It appears that the best diversion from Obama’s latest bevy of scandals, including the VA snafu and the Bergdahl fiasco, will be yet another war, one which Iraq just gave the green light for. As the WSJ reported moments ago, Iraq has privately signaled to the Obama administration that it would allow the U.S. to conduct airstrikes with drones or manned aircraft against al Qaeda militant targets on Iraqi territory, senior U.S. officials said Wednesday. More: The Obama administration is considering a number of options, including the possibility of providing “kinetic support” for the Iraqi military fighting al Qaeda rebels who seized two major cities north of Baghdad this week, ...

A senior Iranian diplomat says the Islamic Republic of Iran will support Iraq in its fight against terrorism. “We will strongly support Iraq in fighting terrorism,” Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said on Wednesday. On Tuesday, militants from the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) took control of Nineveh Province, including its capital Mosul. Iraqi forces are continuing their battle against the militants in parts of Nineveh and other provinces, having managed to push the militants back in some areas. “I am certain that Iraqi military forces will powerfully annihilate terrorism and Takfiris,” ...

Iraq Wants America Back

It seems like only yesterday that Iraq’s prime minister, Nouri al-Maliki, was celebrating as the last American soldiers left Iraq. Now, with an al Qaeda offshoot threatening to take Baghdad, Maliki’s government is quietly asking at least some troops—specifically airmen and drone pilots—to return. While Iraq’s government is not requesting a surge in U.S. ground forces like the one President Bush ordered in 2007, Maliki’s government has been asking for the U.S. to conduct targeted air strikes and the intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance work to find those targets. Last Tuesday, the Iraqi city of Mosul was taken over by the “Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant”, also known as the ISIS. Formerly affiliated with Al Qaeda, The ISIS began in the early years of the American invasion of Iraq, and was responsible for some of the first insurgent attacks against Coalition forces. Now over a decade later, and only 3 years after the United States removed its forces from the country, the second largest city in Iraq has been taken by the insurgency. This isn’t the first city to be overrun by the ISIS either. The cities of Sulayman Beg, and the oft contested Fallujah were previously taken, and the cities of Baiji, Ramadi, and Kirkuk have been ...

White and red flags, representing Iraqi and American deaths, sit in the grass quadrangle of The Valley Library on the Corvallis, Oregon, campus of Oregon State University. As part of the traveling Iraq Body Count exhibit from 2008 to 2009 (not related to Iraq Body Count project), the flags aim to "raise awareness of the human cost of the Iraq War." (May 2008) Casualties of the conflict in Iraq since 2003 (beginning with the 2003 invasion of Iraq, and continuing with the ensuing occupation and insurgency) have come in many forms, and the accuracy of the information available on different types of Iraq War casualties varies greatly. The tables below summarize reports on Iraqi ...

Indiana Sheriff: We Need Military Equipment Because USA Is A War Zone

Who are the police at war with? An Indiana sheriff has defended the large scale transference of military equipment into the hands of law enforcement nationwide, declaring that cops need gear previously used in Iraq and Afghanistan because America is now a battlefield. Recently there have been a spate of reports documenting the trend of the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security outfitting America’s local police departments with military equipment such as bomb proof vehicles, body armour, and machine guns. An article in the New York Times this week, notes that “police departments have received tens of thousands of machine guns; nearly 200,000 ammunition ...

Insurgents seize Iraqi city of Mosul as troops flee

BEIRUT — Insurgents seized control early Tuesday of most of the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, including the provincial government headquarters, offering a powerful demonstration of the mounting threat posed by extremists to Iraq’s teetering stability. Fighters with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), an al-Qaeda offshoot, overran the entire western bank of the city overnight after Iraqi soldiers and police apparently fled their posts, in some instances discarding their uniforms as they sought to escape the advance of the militants. Iraq’s speaker of parliament, Osama Nujaifi, said the city that ranks as the capital of northern Iraq is now entirely in insurgent ...

As usual, the biggest story in America is suppression of news. There has never been a time when the media has taken such an aggressive position, not even after 9/11. It’s more than Ukraine or Syria. The US has not only outraged Russia and China but other nations that were once afraid of the US are now ready to hit back. The simplest way to go after the US is to release classified intelligence showing the US as an aggressor nation or worse, a dupe, violent, dangerous and uncaring. We forget what it was like, the carefully orchestrated orgy of hate after the nuclear demolition of the WTC and the missile attack on the Pentagon. This is one of many shameful moments in American history, ...

President Obama made a surprise visit over Memorial Day weekend to Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan. Following a performance by country music star Brad Paisley, the President addressed about 3,000 troops in a hangar on the base. Video of the event, as well as a transcript of the president’s remarks, are up on the White House website. After a few jokes, the president personally thanked the troops: To all of you, I’m here on a single mission, and that is to thank you for your extraordinary service. I thank you as your Commander-in-Chief because you inspire me. Your willingness to serve, to step forward at a time of war, and say “send me,” is the reason the United States stays ...

Hillary Clinton: My Iraq war vote was 'wrong'

Former US senator and secretary of state Hillary Clinton has described her vote authorizing the war in Iraq as “wrong” amid speculation she might run for president in 2016. Her comment about the 2002 Senate vote as a senator is published in her new book, “Hard Choices,” due to be released June 10, CBS News reported. "[M]any Senators came to wish they had voted against the resolution. I was one of them. As the war dragged on, with every letter I sent to a family in New York who had lost a son or daughter, a father or mother, my mistake become (sic) more painful," Clinton wrote. "I thought I had acted in good faith and made the best decision I could ...

SGT. BERGDAHL AND THE FOG OF WAR

by June 4, 2014 The “fog of war” is a reference to the moral chaos on the battlefield as well as the rampant confusion. Individuals kill others for no other reason than that they are ordered to. Things deemed unambiguously bad in civilian life are authorized and even lauded in war. The killing and maiming of acknowledged innocents — in particular children and the elderly — is excused as “collateral damage.” No wonder that some individuals thrust into this morass sometimes act differently from how soldiers behave in romantic war movies. The hell of war is internal as well as external. We might remember this as the story of Sgt. Bowe Robert Bergdahl unfolds. ...

LUHANSK, Ukraine (AP) — Pro-Russian insurgents captured three government bases in eastern Ukraine in a series of humiliating defeats for the beleaguered armed forces on Wednesday, as the president-elect promised new initiatives to help end the mutiny in the country's industrial heartland. Petro Poroshenko, speaking in Warsaw after meeting with President Barack Obama and other Western leaders, rejected a call from Ukraine's interim authorities to introduce martial law in the restive east, saying he would seek to pacify the region with an offer of amnesty and a promise of early regional elections. Poroshenko's overture, expected to be detailed in his inaugural address on ...
