Two of Washingtons fleets have been assigned to the Persian Gulf along with NATO warships. Missiles have been spread amongst Washingtons Oil Emirate and Middle Eastern puppet states. US troops have been deployed in Israel and Kuwait. NATO's Secret War on Syria by Stephen Lendman In January, Michel Chossudovsky reported British media confirming UK/CIA/MI6 operatives in Syria training anti-Assad Western-backed insurgents. They're also supplying them with arms, ammunition, and equipment. "These reports confirm unequivocally (they're illegally) interfer(ing) in the affairs of a sovereign state. This is not a popular uprising. The insurrection as well as the killings of civilians were sponsored by the Western powers from the outset." More on this below. Events replicate the Libya model a year earlier. In February 2011, US/UK/French special forces and intelligence operatives actively began helping ...

Syrian rebels in Homs taking up a position as they fight with government forces (file photo) Thu Feb 9, 2012 11:39PM An intelligence report says that British are providing logistic support to armed terrorist groups in the Syrian city of Homs in their bloody battle against civilians and the Syrian army forces. The report published by Debka-file, which is widely believed to have close links to Israeli intelligence sources, revealed that British and Qatari forces supply ammunition and direct tactical support to armed groups in Homs to prepare the ground for a covert Turkish military operation in Syria. According to the report, the presence of British and Qatari forces in Homs was high on ...

Foreign Troops Enter Syria George Washington's picture Submitted by George Washington on 02/08/2012 18:28 -0500 China Iran Turkey Weve repeatedly noted that the U.S. government planned regime change in Syria at least 20 years ago. Indeed, carrying out acts of violence and blaming it on the Syrian government as an excuse for regime change was discussed over 50 years ago by British and American leaders. We noted in December that foreign troops were amassing on the Syrian border. We noted yesterday that an independent report by the Arab League found that rebels were attacking government buildings and innocent civilians with armor-piercing projectiles and other ...
Afghanistan and Iraq wars not worth fighting, say a third of US veterans Post Date: 2012-02-08 16:44:58 by christine

One in three US veterans of the post-9/11 military believes the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were not worth fighting, and a majority think that, after 10 years of combat, America should be focusing less on foreign affairs and more on domestic problems, according to an opinion poll. The findings pose a dilemma for the Obama administration and Congress as they struggle to reduce the huge budget deficit and reconsider defence priorities while trying to bolster public support for the continued presence in Iraq and Afghanistan. Nearly 4,500 US troops have been killed in Iraq and some 1,700 in Afghanistan. Combined war costs since the September 11 terrorist attacks have exceeded $1 trillion. ...
Targeting Syria and Iran Post Date: 2012-02-08 04:09:43 by Stephen Lendman

Targeting Syria and Iran by Stephen Lendman Slowed but not derailed by Russia and China vetoing its Security Council resolution, America's regime change/war plans remain on track. In 1999, Washington circumvented the Security Council, UN Charter, and US Constitution to wage aggressive war against nonbelligerent Serbia/Kosovo. According to former Nuremberg prosecutor Walter Rockler, it "constitute(d) the most brazen international aggression since the Nazis attacked Poland to prevent (nonexistent) 'Polish atrocities' against Germans." "The United States has discarded pretensions to international legality and decency, and embarked on a course of raw imperialism ...
Iran: A Manufactured Threat Post Date: 2012-02-07 05:29:16 by Stephen Lendman

Iran: A Manufactured Threat by Stephen Lendman Iran attacked no other country in over 200 years. It threatens none now. It's neighbors know it. So do Washington and Israel. Nonetheless, saber rattling warnings continue. At issue is making an independent state a client one. It's why Washington orchestrated Syria's insurgency and continues anti-Iranian propaganda. Tehran won't tolerate losing its sovereignty, nor should it. It suffered a generation of repression under Washington's installed Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi after the CIA's first ever coup ousted democratically elected Mohammad Mosaddegh. It also knows how America and Israel reign terror throughout the ...

How Iran could Win a War against Israel and the United States in One Hour Post Date: 2012-02-06 17:30:01 by christine

In less than sixty minutes, the tiny nation of Iran could easily defeat two of the mightiest military powers in the world if they are allowed to engage in a first strike opportunity against both of those nations. This is not some far-fetched idea as U.S. and Israeli military planners are keenly aware of the implications of an Iranian attack which catches both nations off guard. The problem is not one of strategy or ability by either nation. The military units of both nations could easily defeat the Iranians in a nuclear or conventional war. However, Iran is not a conventional nation-state nor is the modern concept applicable to the confrontation which is coming. IF Iran were to attack, it ...
Heading for War on Syria Post Date: 2012-02-06 04:16:33 by Stephen Lendman

Heading for War on Syria by Stephen Lendman Washington's longstanding policy is regime change in Iran and Syria. At issue is replacing independent regimes with client ones and securing unchallenged control of valued Middle East resources. On February 4, Russia and China vetoed a largely one-sided anti-Assad resolution. A previous article called him more victim than villain. Yet he's falsely blamed for months of externally generated violence. In fact, he confronted a Western-backed armed insurgency replicating the Libya model. By so doing he acted responsibly against a heavily armed insurrection. Imagine a similar scenario in America. Local police, National Guard forces, and ...

Russia and China Veto Syria Resolution by Stephen Lendman Shortly before 1PM EST, Reuters headlined, "Russia, China veto UN resolution telling Assad to quit," saying: The diplomatic "setback" came the day after "Syrian opposition (elements) accused Assad's forces of killing hundreds of people (in) Homs, the bloodiest night in the 11 months of upheaval in the pivotal Arab country." Like other pro-Western media, Reuters pointed fingers the wrong way. Throughout the conflict, Assad was blamed for Western-backed externally generated violence. In fact, he's more victim than villain, but don't expect media scoundrels to explain. Shortly before the ...

City of Brotherly Love Event Promotes War and Hate by Stephen Lendman On February 2, notorious hatemonger Alan Dershowitz keynoted a Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia (JFGP)/Hillel of Greater Philadelphia "Evening of Unity & Community Solidarity" with Israel. Inviting him was disgraceful. He's a shameless bigot, a longstanding Islamophobe, a perverter of fundamental US and international law, an advocate of war, torture targeted assassinations, and collective punishment, as well as a committed Zionist and apologist for Israel's worst crimes. Distinguished Law Professor Francis Boyle once wrote: He's "a self-incriminated war criminal who publicly ...

The United States is planning to increase the number of its Army Special Forces in Afghanistan, despite an earlier announcement by Washington and NATO that they would hand over security to Afghan forces in 2014, a report says. The report published in the New York Times cited Pentagon officials, whose names it did not reveal, as saying that the elite commando teams within the US Special Operations Forces will remain in the Asian country. The plan may even demand the deployment of more elite forces to Afghanistan. According to the plan, American forces would not patrol Afghan towns and villages vulnerable to militant attacks and local Afghan forces would instead assume such security ...

FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) A 49-year-old brigadier general died Friday in Afghanistan of apparent natural causes, becoming the highest-ranking U.S. soldier to die there, the military said Saturday. Fort Hood announced Brig. Gen. Terence Hildner's death in a statement posted on its website. Hildner had commanded the 13th Expeditionary Sustainment Command at Fort Hood since August 2010. He left for Afghanistan in December to support the NATO mission there. Pentagon spokeswoman Tara Rigler confirmed Hildner was the highest-ranking officer to die in Afghanistan. A Department of Defense list posted online of deaths in Afghanistan did not include any other generals. The Army said ...
Deep Peacemaking Post Date: 2012-02-04 18:43:56 by Hogeye Bill

Deep Peacemaking "War" is organized mass murder, usually a violent conflict between governments. I use "peace" to mean the absence of war. I will not discuss other meanings of peace, such as tranquil feelings or resolving conflicts unrelated to war. Here peacemaking means anti-war activism. The distinction I wish to make by using the terms "deep" and "shallow" is this: Shallow peacemaking is a reaction to a current war. It seeks to end a war already being fought. It is reactive rather than proactive. In contrast, deep peacemaking seeks to prevent the next war. The concept may be best exemplified by the Omni goal of "a culture of peace." ...

Security Council Showdown on Syria by Stephen Lendman Slowly things are coming to a head. America, Israel, rogue NATO partners, and regional despot allies are itching for a fight with Syria. Russia and China stand firmly opposed. On February 3, Reuters headlined, "UN council to vote on Syria resolution Saturday," saying: Britain's UN mission said the "UN Security Council is set to meet 9:00 a.m. Saturday. Plan is to vote on Syria resolution." Reuters said "(o)ther missions confirmed the announcement." On February 3, Deputy Foreign Minister Gannady Gatilov said resolution revisions were "not enough for us to be able to support...." Qatar ...

Say No to War by Stephen Lendman Wolfgang Borchert: German, author, playwright, poet. His experience under Hitler and Wehrmacht service changed his life. Never a Nazi supporter, he deplored compulsory Hitler Youth time. Finally he got out. In 1940, the Gestapo arrested, then released him. His Wehrmacht conscription suspended his young theatrical career. Sent to the Eastern front, he saw war firsthand at its worst. It included numerous casualties, vast destruction, starvation, and painful deaths. When an infected cut caused hepatitis, he was accused of avoiding military service by self-mutilation. As a result, he was arrested, placed in isolation, convicted of making "statements ...

Notably, Russia and China aren't included. Nonetheless, Russian UN ambassador Vitaly Churkin said: "We have the text which we shall send to our capital cities and will wait for the result." He added that doing so "does not predetermine its fate in any way." More on its text below. On February 3, Itar-Tass headlined, "UN Security Council agrees on Syria resolution," saying: On February 2, tentative agreement was reached. Key ...
U..S. tries to ease confusion over Afghan plans Post Date: 2012-02-03 02:41:58 by Tatarewicz

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - U.S. forces will cede the lead role in combat operations in Afghanistan next year, but will keep fighting alongside Afghan troops, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said on Thursday, as the Obama administration struggled to clear up confusion over its Afghan exit strategy. Panetta surprised allies on Wednesday by suggesting the U.S. combat mission in Afghanistan would end in 2013, the first time Washington had floated such a deadline. On Thursday, Panetta emphasized to reporters that U.S. troops in Afghanistan would remain "combat-ready" as the United States winds down its longest war. But he said the troops would largely shift to a train-and-assist role as ...

How the Swiss Opted Out of War Post Date: 2012-02-02 15:18:28 by X-15

Switzerland has not been in a foreign war of any kind since 1815. This would be astounding, even miraculous, for any nation. But Switzerland borders Germany. And France. And Italy. And Austria. And Liechtenstein. Now the Vaduz regime has rarely lashed out in blitzkrieg in a desperate bid to reign über alles, but all of Switzerlands other neighbors have spent their histories invading other countries. In addition to the encircling foreign marauders, Switzerland itself is composed of four different language groups (German, French, Italian, and Romansh) that get along as well as, well, Germans and French. The Swiss finalized their no-wars policy of armed neutrality in 1815. Their ...
