A new congressional research in the United States has revealed that almost half of all US troops' fatalities in the Afghan war have occurred during President Barack Obama's tenure. According to a report published by the Congressional Research Service in mid-November, nearly half of all American troops killed in Afghanistan were killed between 2010 and 2011. In addition, two-thirds of all US troops injured in the Afghan war were wounded during the same period. The report indicated that since the Afghan war started a decade ago under former US President George W. Bush, 1,723 American soldiers have died, and 14,837 others have been injured, http://Antiwar.com reported. Out of the ...

US: Edging closer towards war with Iran? The biggest problem for the US is not Iran getting a nuclear weapon and testing it, but getting it and not using it. MJ Rosenberg Last Modified: 04 Dec 2011 12:25 Suddenly the struggle to stop Iran is not about saving Israel from nuclear annihilation. After a decade of scare-mongering about the second coming of Nazi Germany, the Iran hawks are admitting that they have other reasons for wanting to take out Iran, and saving Israeli lives may not be one of them. Suddenly the neo-conservatives have discovered the concept of truth-telling, although, no doubt, the shift will be ephemeral. The shift in the rationale for war was kicked off this week when ...

Teen arrested trying to apply for job by knocking on armored car window Charleston, S.C., teen Kieon Sharp, 18, tried taking the direct approach to landing a new job. Instead, it landed him in jail, on suspicion of armed robbery. Sharp was hoping to find a job with Brinks security. He had already applied for a job with the company but decided he wanted more information about the day-to-day details of driving one of the company's armed trucks. And what better way to gather information than going straight to the source? So he went up to a driver inside one of the company's vehicles and knocked on the window. The driver mistakenly thought Sharp was holding a gun and called the ...

Law enforcement agencies are adding sound cannons — officially known as Long Range Acoustical Devices — to their arsenals of nonlethal weapons.

Sound has long been used as a weapon. The Germans put sirens on Stuka dive bombers in World War II to amplify the terror to unlucky souls below. Jamaican maroons — fugitive slaves — used the abeng horn to unnerve British colonial soldiers. The U.S. Army blasted rock music to torment former Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega. And according to the Bible, Joshua brought down the walls of Jericho by having his priests blow rams' horns. Now, the power of loud noise is being harnessed by police departments. A device known as the sound cannon is joining Tasers, rubber bullets and pepper spray in law enforcement's expanding arsenal of nonlethal weapons. It's officially ...

War on drugs revealed as total hoax - US military admits to guarding, assisting lucrative opium trade in Afghanistan

NaturalNews) Afghanistan is, by far, the largest grower and exporter of opium in the world today, cultivating a 92 percent market share of the global opium trade. But what may shock many is the fact that the US military has been specifically tasked with guarding Afghan poppy fields, from which opium is derived, in order to protect this multibillion dollar industry that enriches Wall Street, the CIA, MI6, and various other groups that profit big time from this illicit drug trade scheme. Prior to the tragic events of September 11, 2001, Afghanistan was hardly even a world player in growing poppy, which is used to produce both illegal heroin and pharmaceutical-grade morphine. In fact, the ...

Block expansion of presidential power to make war and imprison

Today and tomorrow, the U.S. Senate is likely to consider a Defense Authorization Act that wastes $682.5 billion on war preparations and on wars including Afghanistan, where we killed six more children on Thanksgiving.

The same bill adds dangerous new provisions that authorize presidents to launch numerous wars without Congressional declaration and to indefinitely imprison U.S. citizens without charge. Tell your senators to reform or defeat this bill. Senator Mark Udall of Colorado will introduce an amendment stripping out the expanded war and imprisonment powers. Senator Jeff Merkley of Oregon has introduced an amendment that would ask President ...

Target Syria

Target Syria - by Stephen Lendman Washington's Greater Middle East project involves waring against the region one country at a time to replace independent regimes with client ones. Softer targets were attacked first. Tougher ones remain, notably Iran and Syria. Subduing them may involve turning the entire region into an uncontrollable cauldron, not least because China and Russia have interests to defend. Russia maintains a strategic naval base at Tartus, Syria, its only Mediterranean location. It considers it vital protection for its Black Sea Fleet. It's being modernized to accommodate heavy warships after 2012. Russia came to stay. Three Russian warships now patrol Syrian ...

Susan Lindauer: Bush, Cheney, Israel, 911 And The Jewish Question. The Jewish question is whether or not Jewish people can choose to defend America if Israel has been the nation attacking the US and the world since 911. Susan Lindauer was a CIA asset who was asked to work as a back channel to Iraq and to Libya. She also worked for the DIA. She was active in the anti-sanctions movement. Two million Iraqis died from those sanctions prior to the war. She was under indictment and a gag order thanks to the Patriot Act. She was convicted under the Patriot Act in 2008 and held for a year to keep her under wraps during the elections. She was never paid for the work she did. The only evidence ...

Washington D.C., November 25, 2011 – President Ronald Reagan was briefed in advance about every weapons shipment in the Iran arms-for-hostages deals in 1985-86, and Vice President George H. W. Bush chaired a committee that recommended the mining of the harbors of Nicaragua in 1983, according to previously secret Independent Counsel assessments of "criminal liability" on the part of the two former leaders posted today by the National Security Archive. Twenty-Five years after the advent of the "Iran-Contra affair," the two comprehensive "Memoranda on Criminal Liability of Former President Reagan and of President Bush" provide a roadmap of historical, though ...

Public Relations Campaign for Military Intervention in Syria Begins

France’s foreign minister, Alain Juppé, has raised the prospect of Syrian intervention. After a meeting in Paris with Burhan Ghalioun of the Syrian national council, Juppé said “humanitarian corridors or humanitarian zones” should be established to protect civilians from the alleged abuses of the al-Assad regime. The effort mirrors an earlier one in Libya. In February, the Libyan League, the National Endowment for Democracy (established to do the dirty work of the CIA abroad) and various NGOs petitioned the United Nations to suspend Libya from the UN Human Rights Council. The effort was based on unsubstantiated reports of human rights abuses made by Soliman ...

19 true things generals can't say in public about the Afghan war

As a public service, Best Defense is offering this primer for generals on their way to Afghanistan. Here is a list of 19 things that many insiders and veterans of Afghanistan agree to be true about the war there, but that generals can't say in public. So, general, read this now and believe it later-but keep your lip zipped. Maybe even keep a printout in your wallet and review before interviews. My list of things to remember I can't say Pakistan is now an enemy of the United States. We don't know why we are here, what we are fighting for, or how to know if we are winning. The strategy is to fight, talk, and build. But we're withdrawing the fighters, the Taliban won't ...

Heading for War on Syria?

Heading for War on Syria? - by Stephen Lendman Libya's model is being replicated in Syria. So far, it's short of war. For how long is uncertain. Expect it if current tactics fail. More on that below. At issue is regime change, establishing another client state, and isolating Iran ahead of similar tactics there. It's part of America's Middle East project to redraw the region according to US/Israeli geopolitical aims. Washington's dirty hands lie behind what's happening. Partners include Israel, Britain, France, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Lebanon's March 8 Alliance, Jordan, and other despotic Arab League states. Obama, the peace candidate, wages wars like a ...

A War Crimes Tribunal in Malaysia has found former US President George W. Bush and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair guilty of war crimes for their roles in the Iraq war, Press TV reports. The five-panel Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Tribunal decided that Bush and Blair committed genocide and crimes against humanity by leading the invasion of Iraq in 2003, a Press TV correspondent reported on Tuesday. In 2003, the US and Britain invaded Iraq in blatant violation of international law and under the pretext of finding weapons of mass destruction allegedly stockpiled by former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein. The Malaysian tribunal judges ruled that the decision to wage war against Iraq by ...

Pentagon successfully tests hypersonic flying bomb WASHINGTON — The Pentagon on Thursday held a successful test flight of a flying bomb that travels faster than the speed of sound and will give military planners the ability to strike targets anywhere in the world in less than a hour. Launched by rocket from Hawaii at 1130 GMT, the "Advanced Hypersonic Weapon," or AHW, glided through the upper atmosphere over the Pacific "at hypersonic speed" before hitting its target on the Kwajalein atoll in the Marshall Islands, a Pentagon statement said. Kwajalein is about 2,500 miles (4,000 kilometers) southwest of Hawaii. The Pentagon did not say what top speeds were reached ...

Targeting Iran and Syria
Post Date: 2011-11-16 04:20:26 by Stephen Lendman

Targeting Iran and Syria - by Stephen Lendman America, key NATO partners, and Israel target both countries. Israel wants regional rivals removed. Washington and key NATO partners want independent regimes ousted, replaced with subservient ones. At issue is establishing regional dominance. New targets can then confronted politically, economically, and/or belligerently. Fabricated IAEA Iranian documents escalated tensions. Rhetorical saber rattling followed. Stiffer sanctions are threatened and perhaps war. Syria's been targeted for months. Libya's insurgency was replicated. Street battles rage daily. Violence engulfs the country. Assad's government is unfairly blamed. ...

On October 10, a Times editorial headlined, "Enabling Mr. Assad," saying: "There is a lot of shame to go around after the United Nations Security Council failed last week ...
