Why are They Making War on Libya?

Reason Number One: Regime change. This was announced as the real objective the moment French president Nicolas Sarkozy took the extraordinary step of recognizing the rebels in Benghazi as "the only legitimate representative of the Libyan people". This recognition was an extraordinary violation of all diplomatic practice and principles. It meant non-recognition of the existing Libyan government and its institutions, which, contrary to the magical notions surrounding the word "dictator", cannot be reduced to the personality of one strongman. A major European nation, France, swept aside all those institutions to proclaim that an obscure group of rebels in a traditionally ...

At 2:40, he explains that NATO stands for North Atlantic Treaty Organization and Libya is not in that area. Nor is NATO enforcement even mentioned in the UN Resolution. At 1:00 in this video, Rep. Kucinich explains NATO as war at a discount rate, since we pay 25% of NATO's Military budget. At 3:00, he talks about the issues of supporting violent revolutionaries in Libya and how they've been armed: Dennis Kucinich To Say NATO Is Taking Over Is Just Saying The U S In A Different Form Again in this video at 6:48, Rep. Planned Libyan Invasion

Planned Libyan Invasion - by Stephen Lendman In his book, "Winning Modern Wars," General Wesley Clark said Pentagon sources told him two months after 9/11 that war plans were being prepared against Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Iran, Somalia, Sudan and Libya. Months earlier, they were finalized against Afghanistan. Clark added: "And what about the real sources of terrorists - US allies in the region like Egypt, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia? Wasn't it repressive policies of the first, and the corruption and poverty of the second, that were generating many of the angry young men who became terrorists? And what of the radical ideology and direct funding spewing from Saudi ...

NATO bombing of Libyan rebels, Careless accident or targeted killing?

NATO bombing of Libyan rebels, Careless accident or targeted killing? Western military sources have now acknowledged that its precision bombs were the ones which dropped on Libyan anti-Gaddafi forces yesterday which resulted in at least 12 deaths, 7 Mujahideen and 5 civilians – medical staff travelling to the front to help the battle injured. Initially NATO questioned whether its forces were to blame at all, then when video footage of the attacks emerged said it did not know the rebels even had tanks or military vehicles… This despite the rebels having informed western military planners to this fact days previously and that they were going to be moving a group of tanks, ...

Pentagon’s second thoughts on Iraq withdrawal

WASHINGTON — Eight months shy of its deadline for pulling the last American soldier from Iraq and closing the door on an 8-year war, the Pentagon is having second thoughts. Reluctant to say it publicly, officials fear a final pullout in December could create a security vacuum, offering an opportunity for power grabs by antagonists in an unresolved and simmering Arab-Kurd dispute, a weakened but still active al-Qaida or even an adventurous neighbor such as Iran. The U.S. wants to keep perhaps several thousand troops in Iraq, not to engage in combat but to guard against an unraveling of a still-fragile peace. This was made clear during Defense Secretary Robert Gates’ visit ...

Suppressing Truth and Promoting War: A New York Times Tradition

Suppressing Truth and Promoting War: A New York Times Tradition - by Stephen Lendman According to media scholar/critic Robert McChesney, today's corporate journalism is co-opted, corrupted, gutted, and virtually worthless as a source of real news, information and analysis. As a result, a free and open society is at risk because fiction substitutes for fact. News is carefully managed. Dissent is marginalized, and supporting wealth and power interests replace full disclosure and accurate reporting. No wonder imperial wars are called liberating one. Civil liberties are suppressed for our own good, and patriotism means going along with lawless governments. America's under both parties ...

Protect Your Manhood: End the War in Afghanistan

Ladies, would you please excuse us for a moment? I would like to speak frankly with the young men here about an issue of mutual concern. Are we alone? Good. Now, none of us wants to die. But let's be honest with each other. There are things that we fear more than death. You know what I'm talking about. And so, before you enlist in the Army, or if you are already in the Army, before you deploy to Afghanistan -- there are alternatives to deployment -- I think you owe it to yourself and your loved ones to reflect slowly and carefully on a recent study by doctors at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany -- where most wounded troops are sent before returning to the U.S. -- ...

Last week, minutes after President Barack Obama explained to the nation why he took the country to war, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) posted a statement on YouTube first noting Obama’s 2007 claim that “The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation” and then adding: “Unfortunately, President Obama has failed to heed his own advice. He has ignored our constitution and engaged us in a military conflict without congressional debate and approval.” But the day before on This Week, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told ABC News’ ...

General: U.S. may consider troops in Libya

(CBS/AP) WASHINGTON - The United States may consider sending troops into Libya with a possible international ground force that could aid the rebels, according to the general who led the military mission until NATO took over. Army Gen. Carter Ham also told lawmakers Thursday that added American participation would not be ideal, and ground troops could erode the international coalition and make it more difficult to get Arab support for operations in Libya. Ham said the operation was largely stalemated now and was more likely to remain that way since America has transferred control to NATO. Complete coverage: Anger in the Arab World He said NATO has done an effective job in an ...

Lost within the “humanitarian” rationale that President Obama and his liberal cohorts have provided for the U.S. Empire’s war on Libya is one of the principal benefits of the Libyan War, at least from the standpoint of U.S. officials: the indefinite continuation of the U.S. government’s anti-terrorist powers that have accompanied its decade-long “war on terrorism.” Such powers include the search and seizure provisions of the Patriot Act, the enemy- combatant doctrine, indefinite detention, kangaroo military tribunals, Gitmo, secret overseas prison camps, kidnapping, rendition, torture, denial of due process, and body groping and porn-scanning at the airports. ...

Libya - The DC/NATO Agenda - And The Next Great War

Libya - The DC/NATO Agenda And The Next Great War KINGSTON, NY, 4 April 2011 — In the 1930s the US, Great Britain, and the Netherlands set a course for World War II in the Pacific by conspiring against Japan. The three governments seized Japan’s bank accounts in their countries that Japan used to pay for imports and cut Japan off from oil, rubber, tin, iron and other vital materials. Was Pearl Harbor, Japan’s response? Now Washington and its NATO puppets are employing the same strategy against China. Protests in Tunisia, Egypt, Bahrain, and Yemen arose from the people protesting against Washington’s tyrannical puppet governments. However, the protests against ...

Merciless Green Austerity System On The Agenda For The UN's 2012 Earth Summit Share | Print Version March 30, 2011 By Michael Vail(Chief Editor of BLN) www.vantagepointradio.com mike@vantagepointradio.com The United Nations flag with the grid over the globe is an important clue for those who monitor world affairs. They are tightening their grip on the earth and laying out their control grid piece by piece. The previous Earth Summit in 1993 produced an insidious action plan entitled Agenda 21. This plan was carried out and allowed the United Nations to acquire and control resources from around the globe and coerce local, state and federal governments to do their bidding for the sake of ...

Monday, April 4, 2011 Codex Alimentarius Revised General Standards Allow for Higher Levels of Food Irradiation Updated excerpt from Codex Alimentarius -- The End of Health Freedom Brandon Turbeville Activist Post Although the questionable means by which the General Standards For Irradiated Food was ratified are enough cause for concern in and of themselves, the revision of Codex’s position presents an even bigger danger to the food supply than the original version. This revised policy seems to be part of an ongoing disregard by federal agencies who are charged with protecting the public. Just recently, the EPA proposed modifications to their Protective Action Guides for radiation ...

Remember Libya: One of History's Terror Bombing Victims - by Stephen Lendman Like Cast Lead against Gaza, Odyssey Dawn is criminal imperial war, willfully attacking non-combatants and civilian targets, including vital infrastructure, hospitals, non-military airports and buildings, ports, power generating facilities, and other sites unrelated to military necessity. These and more besides so-called rebels killing hundreds on the ground, targeting anyone thought to be pro-Gaddafi, including African guest workers there for employment, not political allegiance. In his article titled, "Libya and Obama's Defense of the 'Rebel Uprising,' " James Petras said: Libyans ...

Two Nato soldiers have been shot dead by a man wearing an Afghan border police uniform in Afghanistan's Faryab province, officials say. Nato is investigating the incident but said the gunman had fled the checkpoint where the shooting happened. But another account says that the shots were fired from a nearby house and a police officer ran away at that point. Nato is due begin transferring power to local Afghan forces in July. If the attacker in this incident is proven to be a member of the security forces, this would be just the latest in a string of attacks by Afghan security personnel on foreign forces. The deadliest recent attack was last November when an Afghan policeman killed ...

Obama's Terror War on Libya

Obama's Terror War on Libya - by Stephen Lendman Since WW II, America's gone to war as much to wage as win them because so many profiteers benefit. The prospect of peace, in fact, terrifies government, military officials, and corporate predators, so new enemies are invented when old ones are vanquished, are no longer of interest, or conflicts end for other reasons. Wars are solely for wealth and power, never humanitarian intervention to liberate oppressed people or promote democracy. They're notions, in fact, US leaders won't tolerate, notably Obama, doubling down on Bush, waging his Iraq and Afghan wars, fighting two others in Pakistan and Libya, another allied with ...

Campbell spoke to reporters at Fort Campbell on the Tennessee-Kentucky state line during a video conference from his headquarters in Bagram on Thursday and said that 117 members of the 101st have died in Afghanistan since last March. All six soldiers were from the 1st Brigade Combat Team. The latest deaths came during ongoing combat to clear insurgents from eastern Afghanistan. Campbell said he couldn't discuss details because the operation was ongoing but called it a joint mission ...

America's Permanent War Agenda: Military Keynesianism on Steroids - by Stephen Lendman Previous articles discussed America's culture of violence at home and abroad. Its entire history, in fact, is blood-drenched, glorifying conflicts in the name of peace, waging them every year in US history against one or more domestic and/or foreign adversaries. Moreover, since WW II, America's had a permanent war agenda for unchallengeable global dominance throughout decades without enemies since Japan surrendered on August 15, 1945. The Pentagon calls it a "long war." Obama is the latest warrior president following Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Jackson, Lincoln, T. Roosevelt, ...
