Whistleblower says Army abuse not investigated

damning High Court judgment into claims of Army abuse in Iraq has concluded that one of the Royal Military Police's (RMP) most senior figures is "a most unsatisfactory witness". Three High Court judges ruled that RMP Deputy Provost Marshal Colonel Dudley Giles "lacked reliability" when he gave evidence to an inquiry into claims UK soldiers mistreated and murdered prisoners. A whistleblower has told the BBC he was not surprised when he heard the judges' comments. "I believe that I was serving in something that was party to covering up quite serious allegations of torture and murder," said the former Royal Military Policeman of his time in the corps. ...

In 2008 Afghanistan firefight, US weapons failed
Post Date: 2009-10-11 15:39:25 by Horse

WASHINGTON – It was chaos during the early morning assault last year on a remote U.S. outpost in Afghanistan and Staff Sgt. Erich Phillips' M4 carbine had quit firing as militant forces surrounded the base. The machine gun he grabbed after tossing the rifle aside didn't work either. When the battle in the small village of Wanat ended, nine U.S. soldiers lay dead and 27 more were wounded. A detailed study of the attack by a military historian found that weapons failed repeatedly at a "critical moment" during the firefight on July 13, 2008, putting the outnumbered American troops at risk of being overrun by nearly 200 insurgents. Which raises the question: Eight years ...

Operation Juniper Cobra - joint US-Israeli military exercise to begin

U.S., IDF hold joint exercise on response to nuclear attack By Yossi Melman, Haaretz Correspondent Israel and the United States are conducting a joint military exercise whose main goal, according to military officials in both countries, is to hone the allies' abilities to fend off missiles equipped with nuclear, biological or chemical warheads. This year's Juniper Cobras drill, in contrast to those in recent years, will not involve intercepting live missiles due to logistical constraints associated with last summer's Lebanon war and U.S. deployments. The Israel Air Force's Air Defense Artillery Brigade and the U.S. Army Corps' 69th Air Defense Artillery Brigade ...

Did UK Queen Approve Bhutto Hit vs "Rogue" Act? Pakistan Is Commonwealth, Murdoch & Parents are Knights; Fox is Brit PR Branch! The Queen is Commander in Chief of British Military and MI-5. Pakistan is British. Musharaff as President is also Govenor General, Queens Rep. Musharaff's Agenda is Queen's Agenda and I doubt seriously, that the Queen's Agenda is to "favor American best interests" inside ANY British Commonwealth Nation, especially one so critical to UK access to Caspian Sea Pipeline. KABUL (AP) -- Bombs have killed one American and two Polish troops in Afghanistan, military officials said Saturday. Violence in this country has surged in recent months as insurgents grow bolder and the U.S. debates whether to send additional troops. The U.S. service member died Saturday of wounds suffered in a bombing in southern Afghanistan, U.S. officials said. The Polish soldiers were killed when their vehicle hit a roadside bomb in eastern Wardak province on Friday, Poland's Defense Ministry said. Four others were wounded. Also Saturday, the spokesman for the provincial government in Wardak province, Shahidullah Shahid, said Afghan and international forces killed nine Taliban ...

Obama Is Moving Forcefully to Concentrate All Power in Himself

Chuck Baldwin's excellent essay below gives some more details on recent moves by the Obama forces to seize direct control over U.S. police, quasi-private military forces, and to create new forces under control of the Party. Bill Marina and I paid a great deal of detailed attention to Bush's explosive use of the Blackwater, etc., private armies in Iraq, Afghanistan and beyond. There are now a few good books on them. In general, these mercenaries – highly paid, mostly former Special Forces from the U.S., Israel, South Africa, etc. – outnumber the regular military personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan and beyond. The statement that the U.S. forces in Afghanistan are 65,000 is a ...

Warmonger Wins Peace Prize

It took 25 years longer than George Orwell thought for the slogans of 1984 to become reality. "War Is Peace," "Freedom Is Slavery," "Ignorance Is Strength." I would add, "Lie Is Truth." The Nobel Committee has awarded the 2009 Peace Prize to President Obama, the person who started a new war in Pakistan, upped the war in Afghanistan, and continues to threaten Iran with attack unless Iran does what the US government demands and relinquishes its rights as a signatory to the non-proliferation treaty. The Nobel committee chairman, Thorbjørn Jagland said, "Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's ...

News Americas US: Taliban has grown fourfold Extra US troops are needed for combat and to train Afghan army units, McChrystal has said [AFP] Taliban-led forces fighting US and Nato troops in Afghanistan have increased nearly fourfold since 2006, according to a US intelligence estimate presented to the US president. The report says that the number of Taliban fighters has grown to 25,000, from 7,000 four years ago, the officials said on Friday as Barack Obama convened a fifth cabinet-level meeting on his country's military strategy in Afghanistan. The US president is considering whether to agree to a request by the senior commander of US and Nato forces in Afghanistan for up to 40,000 ...

The above photo was submitted by an active duty Oath Keeper in Mosul Iraq, sporting an Oath Keepers tab. As his other tab and patch make clear, he is also a “Three Percenter.” (see below) The photo was also posted over at the Sipsey Street Irregulars blog with this message: Just thought the WRSA [Western Rifle Shooters Association] and the Sipsey Street boys might like to see what we are wearing while over here in Iraq. We . . . know what the deal is, and when the time comes (which it will), we know where we stand and continue to make preparations for it. Keep up the good work! Regards from Mosul, K7C All I can say to that is Hooah! Thank you for your service, K7C, and for ...

Blair Slammed As 'War Criminal' At Iraq Memorial

Father of killed British soldier refuses to shake Blair's hands for having 'blood on it'. LONDON - Former British prime minister Tony Blair was told he had "blood on his hands" by the father of a dead soldier Friday, after a memorial for the fallen of the Iraq war in London. The ex-premier joined Queen Elizabeth II, Iraq's President Jalal Talabani, current Prime Minister Gordon Brown as well as soldiers and families at a service paying tribute to the 179 British troops who died as a result of invading Iraq. The snub came at a reception held after the memorial in St. Paul's Cathedral, where the archbishop of Canterbury criticised policymakers for failing to ...

BOMB IRAN NOW BECAUSE...UH, WHAT'S THE REASON?

Yesterday morning on FAUX News Network, the morning stooges were gleefully talking about how our military could drop this big old "bunker buster" bomb on selected targets in Iran. We all know how well that has worked in the past. Well, what the heck, they're just collateral damage. Greta Van Susteren (FAUX) seems to be unable to find any new guests because she constantly has war monger, John Bolton, as her guest. Bolton's sole purpose in life seems to be that we must "bomb Iran now." Of course, that useful fool has a powerful ally named John McCain. Remember when Sen. McCain gave his famous, "Bomb, bomb, bomb, Iran" jingle? Yeah, real funny. How easy ...

Apache Pilots Shocked by Size of Attack on Afghan Outpost

The pilot of an Apache gunship who flew to the rescue of U.S. soldiers nearly overrun at a remote outpost in Afghanistan last weekend told ABC News today that he had "never seen that large of a force" attacking coalition troops in Afghanistan. By the time Chief Warrant Officer 3 Ross Lewallen and Chief Warrant Officer 2 Chad Bardwell arrived over the embattled outpost, dubbed Camp Keating, parts were in flames and dozens of insurgents could be seen on the camp's perimeter. When the battle was over and the fire extinguished, many who survived had nothing left "except the clothes off their backs and the weapons in their hands," one soldier told ABC News. The pilots ...

Just Say No to McChrystal

President Barack Obama’s war council is meeting to consider Gen. Stanley McChrystal’s proposal to increase troop levels in Afghanistan by 10,000 to 40,000 troops. Nobody seems to be pondering why we have troops in Afghanistan at all. President Obama has reportedly taken the option of withdrawing all our troops from Afghanistan off the table. Republican John McCain, who the Pentagon wishes had won the 2008 election, is shouting about the perils of taking "half measures" and wants Obama to give McChrystal everything he asks for. Blue Dog Democrat Ike Skelton has cautioned Obama against taking a "half-ass it and hope" approach. The best measure we can take, ...

Dark Omens for the US in Afghanistan

Now officially in its ninth year since the invasion of Afghanistan, the U.S. should have little reason to recount, in Chalmers Johnson’s words, the Sorrows of Empire. By now everyone on the planet knows by heart the tragic tale. The U.S. invaded Afghanistan without a clear understanding of its goals and after eight years remains as torn as ever over defining them. It was hoped that the incoming Obama administration and its new AfPak strategy would finally end the drift toward quagmire, but that hope is fading fast. Last week, AfPak architect Bruce Riedel revealed in the Financial Times that “Pretty much six months has since gone by without a rigorous implementation of what was ...

Pirates hit navy ship 'in error' (French Navy ship)

A group of Somali pirates has been captured after attacking a French navy ship by mistake, apparently thinking it was a harmless cargo vessel. French military spokesman Admiral Christophe Prazuck said the pirates attacked in skiffs late at night some 500km (310 miles) off the Somali coast. But the command and supply ship, the Somme, repelled the attack and chased the pirates, capturing five of them. Dozens of international warships fight piracy in Somalia's lawless waters. A French defence ministry photo shows the pirates surrendering The country has had no effective central government since 1991, leading to a complete breakdown of law and order, and pirates operate off the coast ...

The War-Losing Losses of the U.S. in Afpak Are Rarely Noted in the U.S. Media

The death of 8 US soldiers in the mountains of Eastern Afghanistan a few days ago has received saturation coverage in the US Media, mostly intended obviously to increase the grim resolve to continue the war in perpetuity, which is what the U.S. commander McChrystal is really, secretly proposing in his Plan to win the war against the rising tsunami of guerilla forces fighting the US. The Media people see this as a human interest story and the public responds to the stories that way, as a grim personal loss for the families, communities, the growing threat of the Taliban, and so on. I watched the three big network tv-news programs last night to see if they ever mentioned the war-losing ...

Fire McChrystal and Get Out of Afghanistan

Although the politicians, media, and public believe few things are more important than preventing another al-Qaeda attack on America, defending the founding principles of the republic would seem to be one of them. The conventional wisdom is that the war in Afghanistan is a "war of necessity" that cannot be lost if the war against al-Qaeda is to be won. This proposition is only now being questioned because the fraud-plagued Afghan election makes a legitimate government almost impossible and because the war in Afghanistan has turned into an eight-year quagmire that is getting worse by the day. Not only is the conventional wisdom wrong, but Gen. Stanley McChrystal should be fired, ...

The Gaza War's Effect on Women

The Gaza War's Effect on Women - by Stephen Lendman The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights' (PCHR) new report, titled "Through Women's Eyes," highlights "the Gender-Specific Impact and Consequences of Operation Cast Lead" and the ongoing siege, including 12 case study examples "through the victims' words." Several are discussed below. In patriarchal Palestinian society, women traditionally are caregivers while men typically head households and are the main breadwinners. As a result, when widows are thrust into this role, they're often victimized by cultural, social and economic discrimination and marginalization. In Gaza today, it's ...

McChrystal’s Ultimatum

Gen. Stanley McChrystal’s latest insubordination was an act of sheer petulance. We already know via unnamed reliable sources that McChrystal has threatened to resign if he doesn’t get the next wave of escalation in Afghanistan he wants. The sanctioned leak of his report on Afghanistan to Bob Woodward of the Washington Post and McChrystal’s 60 Minutes infomercial made it clear to everyone who hadn’t already noticed that he and his allies in the long-war mafia were waging information warfare against President Barack Obama, a campaign that has led to a call from the right-wing fringe for a military coup to solve "the Obama problem." McChrystal upped the ante with ...

The Generals' War By Patrick J. Buchanan The Pentagon's pre-emptive strike came with the leak of Gen. Stanley McChrystal's confidential review of the Afghan war to Bob Woodward of The Washington Post. McChrystal's painting of the military picture was grim. "Failure to gain the initiative and reverse insurgent momentum in the near-term (next 12 months)—while Afghan security capacity matures—risks an outcome where defeating the insurgency is no longer possible." If I don't get the troops to reverse the Taliban gains, said McChrystal, we face "mission failure." A Saigon ending to the Afghan war. Word was quickly out that McChrystal wanted ...

PATRIOT Act Fight Needs More Patriots

The Democrats want to change the name of the PATRIOT Act to the JUSTICE Act. That’s the easy part – exchanging one Orwellian branding for another – much like earlier this year, when the new Obama administration insisted the government wasn’t waging a Global War on Terrorism, but an "Overseas Contingency Operation." Save for the name, there hasn’t been one major transformation in the way the federal government is executing the Long War (the recent helicopter gunship execution of a suspected al-Qaeda terrorist in Somalia in September was completely in step with the old GWOT). And seeing how key Democrats are slowly caving on some of the most promising ...
