Obama's Obscene Remarks in Iraq
Post Date: 2009-04-09 06:25:06 by Ada

It is hard to know where to begin on Obama's remarks in Iraq yesterday during a visit described unnecessarily by our press as a "surprise" since that is the only sort of visit a US President can make to Iraq. What is more appalling? The casual obscenity of a US President calling upon a nation that the US has been beating, brutalizing, and raping (that is when not using like a pawn in geo political games) for decades to "take responsibility for itself" or the fact that he has absolutely no idea of how much like a criminal sociopath he sounds when making such remarks? It isn't Obama's fault. He is, after all, a product of the imperial Beltway and thus has ...

Iraqi shoe thrower sentence reduced

Iraqi journalist Muntadher al-Zaidi, who threw his shoes at President Bush (but missed) in protest of American killings in Iraq, has had his sentence for assault reduced from three years to one. An appeals court considered al-Zaidi's young age, absence of a criminal record and the protest motive. POSTER COMMENT: al-Zaidi should appeal to Obama for a pardon and if the President can swing it he'd be assured of not having a shoe thrown at him on any visit to Iraq. Click for Full Text!

Progressive’ Warmongers

As President Barack Obama launches a military effort that promises to dwarf the Bush administration’s Iraqi adventure in scope and intensity, the "progressive" community is rallying around their commander in chief as obediently and reflexively as the neocon-dominated GOP did when we invaded Iraq. As John Stauber points out over at the Center for Media and Democracy Web site, the takeover of the antiwar movement by the Obamaites is nearly complete. He cites MoveOn.org as a prime but not sole example: "MoveOn built its list by organizing vigils and ads for peace and by then supporting Obama for president; today it operates as a full-time cheerleader supporting ...

Draft Resistance Five minutes, seven points. Every 18-year-old should know.

1. Life Ownership: The most important reason why you should not register for the draft is because you own your body. You own your life. With the draft, the government says that they own your life and they will do whatever they want with your body for as long as they want when they decide the time is right. So don't register! 2. Slippery Slope: Another reason you should not register for the draft is because registration brings us one step closer to conscription (the draft). When you register with Selective Service you are not registering to win a new car, nor registering to win a free vacation. You are giving Selective Service your vital statistics so they can prepare the coming ...

FY2010 Defense Budget recommendation highlights: "We will end production of the F-22 fighter at 187 – representing 183 planes plus four recommended for inclusion in the FY 2009 supplemental." "To replace the Air Force’s aging tanker fleet, we will maintain the KC-X aerial re-fueling tanker schedule and funding, with the intent to solicit bids this summer." "With regard to air lift, we will complete production of the C-17 airlifter program this fiscal year. Our analysis concludes that we have enough C-17s with the 205 already in the force and currently in production." "I will recommend increasing the buy of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter from ...

Russia slams as farce Canada's statement on Tu-160 flight

MOSCOW, February 27 (RIA Novosti) - A Russian government source expressed astonishment on Friday over a statement made by Canada's defense minister over a flight by a Russian strategic bomber near the Canadian border. Peter Mackay said two Canadian fighters forced the Russian Tu-160 Blackjack to make a U-turn on February 18 as it neared Canadian airspace less then 24 hours before U.S. President Barack Obama was due to visit Ottawa. The Canadian minister said the move was "a strong coincidence." "The Canadian defense minister's statements concerning the flights of our long-haul aircraft are totally unclear... This was a routine flight. The countries adjacent to the ...

"Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities." - attributed to Voltaire The propaganda war on the American public appears to have entered a new phase. In a March 30 post at his Foreign Policy blog, Thomas E. Ricks wrote, "I thought some of the surge-era deals in Iraq would unravel but I didn’t think that would begin happening this quickly. It’s only March 2009, and already Awakening fighters are fighting U.S. soldiers in the streets of Baghdad." Ricks cited a number of recent confrontations between members of the Sunni Awakening movement and Nouri al-Maliki’s government and got all giddy about how he "wouldn’t be ...

Obama: 'US not at war with Islam' Obama said Turkey and the US must seek common ground to address regional challenges [Reuters] During his first visit to a Muslim nation, Barack Obama, the US president, has said the US "is not and will never be at war with Islam''. In an address to the Turkish parliament in Ankara on Monday, he called for a greater partnership with the Muslim world. Obama described Turkey as an important US ally in the fight against terrorism, the war in Afghanistan and the Middle East peace process. The comments came shortly after private talks between him and Abdullah Gul, the Turkish president. In what was the first address given to the Turkish ...

Top Ten Ways the US is Turning Afghanistan into Iraq

1. Exaggerating the threat. An Afghan army foot patrol was attacked by guerrillas in Helmand Province on Wednesday, according to AP. US and Afghan soldiers responded, engaging in a firefight. Then the US military called in an air strike on the Taliban, killing 20 of them. On Tuesday, a similar airstrike had taken out 30 guerrillas. It is this sort of thing that makes me wonder why the Taliban (or whoever these guys in Helmand were) are considered such a big threat that the full might of NATO is needed to deal with them. They have no air force, no artillery, no tanks. They are just small bands, apparently operating in platoons, who, whenever they mass in large enough numbers to stand and ...

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich told “Fox News Sunday” that he would have disabled the long-range missile before North Korea launched it, saying too many people “do not appreciate the scale of the threat that is evolving on the planet.” “One morning, just like 9/11, there’s going to be a disaster,” Gingrich said. “I have yet to see the United Nations do anything effective with either Iran or North Korea.” - Snip Poster Comment:This comment should serve as a reminder why Gingrich & company have been relegated to political obscurity.

WASHINGTON – The Obama administration plans to seek as much as $3 billion over the next five years to train and equip Pakistan's military, and is considering sending 10,000 more troops to battle the Taliban in Afghanistan, defense officials said Wednesday. The money would include $500 million in an additional war budget request for the coming year that will go to Congress this month, The Associated Press has learned. In outlining the spending program publicly for the first time, defense officials told the Senate Armed Services Committee it is critical to train and equip the Pakistanis so they have the skills and will to fight. The $3 billion for Pakistan would complement a plan ...

Not One Terrorist Plot Foiled by Torture of Abu Zubaida

Former President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney have long claimed that "a great many" terrorist plots had been foiled by Bush administration's torture policies (they called them “aggressive interrogation" techniques). But a March 29 Washington Post story reveals that the torture of Abu Zubaida, touted by the ex-president as an intelligence treasure-trove, failed to foil a single terror plot and turned up scores of false leads. President Bush took peculiar note of Abu Zubaida in a September 6, 2006 speech on terrorism: Within months of September 11, 2001, we captured a man named Abu Zubaidah. We believed that Zubaidah was a senior terrorist leader ...

US Used by Afghan Drug Clan to Take Out Rival

A "high-ranking" member of al-Qaida was seized during a recent US mission in Afghanistan which left five people dead. But the Americans were set up: The tip-off as to his location came from a drug clan who wanted to get rid of a rival. A secret mission by elite American Delta Force commandos in northern Afghanistan has triggered resentment among German forces, SPIEGEL has learned. The American forces were tricked by a drug clan into taking out a rival as part of an operation to seize an al-Qaida member. Now German soldiers are paying the price for the operation's civilian casualties. The raid took place on March 21 in Kunduz province, where German forces are helping with ...

Obama's Domino Theory

The president sounds like he's channeling Cheney or McCain -- or a Cold War hawk afraid of international communism -- when he talks about the war in Afghanistan. President Obama announces a new comprehensive strategy for Afghanistan and Pakistan Friday. Behind him, from left, are policy advisor Bruce Riedel, Joint Chiefs Chairman Adm. Michael Mullen, National Security Advisor James Jones, and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. March 30, 2009 | President Barack Obama may or may not be doing the right thing in Afghanistan, but the rationale he gave for it on Friday is almost certainly wrong. Obama has presented us with a 21st century version of the domino theory. The U.S. is ...

US won't hunt militants over Pakistan border: Obama

President Barack Obama ruled out sending US troops on a hot pursuit of extremists across the Afghan border into Pakistan -- but demanded Islamabad hold up its end of the anti-terror struggle. Referring to US missile strikes on militants, Obama said in a television interview: "If we have a high-value target within our sights, after consulting with Pakistan, we're going after them." But asked on CBS program "Face the Nation" if he would order US troops on the ground into militant safe havens inside Pakistan, Obama stressed: "No. "Our plan does not change the recognition of Pakistan as a sovereign government," he said. "We need to work with them ...

The Corruption that is Torture

No doubt can any longer exist that the United States has engaged in torture. Recently released chunks of a report by the International Commission of the Red Cross (ICRC) make it distressingly clear that our government has not only systematically tortured, but lied about it through barefaced denials: "We do not torture." As journalist Mark Danner, who leaked the report, points out: "The ICRC is the guardian of the Geneva Conventions, and when it uses those words"—words like torture or cruel and degrading—"they have the force of law." A strong prima facie case exists that war crimes of the worst order have been committed. These crimes cannot be ...

Who Was the Mastermind?

On December 14, 2001, the federal government released a videotape allegedly showing Osama bin Laden smiling and boasting about the September 11th attack. The fact that a man takes credit for a deed and basks in the glory does not mean he did it. ...all the reliable evidence I have seen indicates the attackers have no such military organization and no such mastermind. Was bin Laden somehow involved in the attack? I am sure beyond a reasonable doubt that he was. Was he the "terrorist mastermind" behind the attack? Unlikely. Sources: More US troops for Afghan warBy ANNE GEARAN and PAMELA HESS WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama plans to dispatch additional U.S. troops plus hundreds of civilian advisers in hopes of turning around a faltering war in Afghanistan and will recommend increasing aid to neighboring Pakistan so long as leaders there confront militancy, people familiar with the forthcoming plan said Thursday. Obama plans to lay out his revamped strategy for Afghanistan and Pakistan on Friday. Several sources told The Associated Press it includes 20 recommendations for countering a persistent insurgency that spans the two countries' border. White House press secretary Robert Gibbs would not ...

No ban on ‘global war on terror’: US officials AFP Thursday, March 26, 2009 President Barack Obama’s administration denied Wednesday dropping the punchy but controversial phrase “global war on terror” for the less snappy formulation “overseas contingency operation.” There is no administration-wide edict from the White House Office of Management and Budget mandating the name change, as claimed in a Washington Post report, officials said. “I sometimes am amused by things that I read in the press. I am not aware of any communication that I’ve had on that topic,” OMB director Peter Orszag told reporters. (ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW) According ...

U.S. missiles hit northwest Pakistan Alamgir Bitani Reuters Thursday, March 26, 2009 Missiles believed to have been fired by a U.S. drone aircraft killed four people in Pakistan’s North Waziristan region on Thursday, hours after a similar strike killed seven in neighbouring South Waziristan. The drone attacks coincided with the U.S. State Department posting $5 million rewards for information leading to the arrest or location of two al Qaeda allies based in Waziristan. Two missiles struck a house near the town of Mir Ali in North Waziristan early on Thursday, killing four people, according to Pakistani intelligence officials in the area. Hours earlier, missiles killed seven ...
