The End of Marriage

The End of Marriage by Charles Martel on January 8, 2010 The marriage rate is declining in the USA and other Western countries. You knew that. But what exactly does that mean? Men and women are still marrying. Marriage will continue, won’t it? Let’s take a look at the data for the USA. The National Marriage Project at the University of Virginia publishes an annual report titled The State Of Our Unions which includes data on US marriage rates since 1960. From 1970 through 2008, the US marriage rate has declined from 76.5 to 37.4 marriages per 1,000 unmarried women — see the chart below: Charts at URL source. It’s immediately obvious that the decline of marriage can ...

It is always a good idea to pay attention to new words or phrases that seem to have no connection with any previous word or phrase, and which are not self-evident. Such a phrase these days is "quantitative easing." When we hear a phrase like this, we should think through the implications of what this phrase probably means. The new phrase may be a euphemism. A euphemism is a substitute phrase for a practice that is considered questionable or even wrong. The new phrase is substituted in order to tone down the contrast between what people regard as right and what they regard as wrong. We used to have a phrase for such a concealed practice, but it fell out of favor over 70 years ...

Marriage Sinks to New Low, Recession Blamed… [Full Thread]

Marriage Sinks to New Low, Recession Blamed… by W.F. Price on September 28, 2010 Recently released Census Bureau figures reveal that in 2009 the proportion of married Americans fell lower than ever, dropping 5% in the last 9 years alone. Compared to 57% in 2000, today only 52% of all adults are married. The institution of marriage is crumbling under a combined feminist and federal assault, which has legislated it into something that is roughly the opposite of what it used to be. Pointing to the recession as the primary reason for the death of marriage is entirely off the mark. The decline of marriage has been ongoing since at least the early 1970s, when no-fault divorce created an ...

Most journalists would get fired over something like this. Last week, Hannity featured a clip of President Obama explaining why he will allow the Bush tax cuts to expire, just as the prior administration had ...

Fear and Favor By PAUL KRUGMAN Published: October 3, 2010 True, there have been some changes in the plot. In the original, Kane tried to buy high political office for himself. In the new version, he just puts politicians on his payroll. I mean that literally. As Politico recently pointed out, every major contender for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination who isn’t currently holding office and isn’t named Mitt Romney is now a paid contributor to Fox News. Now, media moguls have often promoted the careers and campaigns of politicians they believe will serve their interests. But directly cutting checks to political favorites takes it to a whole new level of blatancy. ...

Getting To Know WFB: Joe Sobran’s Last Testament

“Getting To Know WFB: Joe Sobran’s Last Testament Peter Brimelow writes: Earlier this year, a mutual friend let me know that Joe Sobran, although ill, offline and phoneless in an assisted living facility, had rallied to the point where he wanted to express a more considered view of William F. Buckley than he had offered in his emotional obituary, which had apparently contradicted so completely the critique that he had developed since his firing from National Review in 1993. I was delighted to offer a venue, but I noted that VDARE.COM’s focus on immigration would require him to offer his views on Buckley’s adoption and then abandonment of the cause of immigration ...

The President Finally Stands Up to the World’s Tormentors—Will All Hell Now Break Loose? Barack Obama was from the start a creation and puppet of the Jews. Now, he is making war against his creators. He’s had enough and isn’t going to take it any longer. Sparks are flying in our nation’s capital. The Jews are angry and they intend to smash this runaway President and his “smart-aleck” black wife, Michelle. The gloves are off and they're plotting some very, very sinister “payback.” Might it all end with President Obama being assassinated by Israel’s ruthless Mossad? The Battle Lines Are Drawn Already, the battle lines are drawn. It ...

Fear is a Magnetic Force and often Appears as Anger. Dog Poet Transmitting……. I’ve been watching Alan Grayson for awhile. He’s a congressman from Central Florida. He’s been a truthful and relentless gadfly against the vampire establishment of Zionist Jewish bankers and general, corporate malfeasance. Though he hasn’t named these miscreants as to their claimed and fraudulent native origins, he has certainly gone after the machinery of human oppression on a regular basis. He’s pretty much alone out there when it comes to honesty in a politician and stands out as a glaring anomaly in terms of right and wrong and those who don’t know the difference, ...

Another Question for everyone.About the USA. What was back then when this thing first started with a British insurrection known as the American Revolution and what it has become today and what it is capable of and what we as free fair and honest citizens be inclined to expect of our government in terms of liberty, rights, and mutually agreed upon foul or what is unacceptable to any free and fair government . What is our government capable of? It has sentenced innocent men to die in its "criminal Justice" system and in pointless wars for resources that were not needed at that cost given the alternatives that were always available in the form of water and wind... The least among us ...

Are you an optimist or a pessimist? Posted By Stephen M. Walt Monday, September 20, 2010 - 7:45 AM Share I had dinner a couple of weeks ago with a group of Harvard colleagues (and a visiting speaker), and we got into an interesting discussion about America's future as a world power. Nobody at the table questioned whether the United States was going to remain a very powerful and influential state for many years/decades to come. Instead, the main issues were whether it would retain its current position of primacy, whether China might one day supplant it as the dominant global power, and whether U.S. standards of living would be significantly compromised in the future. One participant (a ...

In an email to the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF), the whistleblower stated that he is part of an "underground group" of about 100 cadets who cannot rely on proper channels to confront evangelical pressure. Matt Taibbi Sep 28, 2010 7:01 AM EDT This is an article from the October 15, 2010 issue of Rolling Stone. It's taken three trips to Kentucky, but I'm finally getting my Tea Party epiphany exactly where you'd expect: at a Sarah Palin rally. The red-hot mama of American exceptionalism has flown in to speak at something called the National Quartet Convention in Louisville, a gospel-music hoedown in a giant convention center filled with thousands of elderly white Southerners. Palin — who earlier this morning held a closed-door fundraiser for Rand Paul, the Tea Party champion running for the U.S. Senate — is railing against a GOP establishment that has just seen Tea ...

Matt Taibbi is one of my favorite political writers, and he’s perfect for scrutinizing the Tea Party movement — he’s a gonzo swashbuckler who specializes in exposing the inanities of American culture, so plopping him down in the midst of the teabaggers is like opening the henhouse door for a wolf. Scanning the thousands of hopped-up faces in the crowd, I am immediately struck by two things. One is that there isn’t a single black person ...

So this evening my neighbor's kids were banging against my fence. They were banging against so hard, that they busted loose some of the boards that were put in place the last time the little morons were banging up against it. When I told the kids to knock it off, one of the little morons asked me "Who the F are you?" I told him that I was the F-in guy who owns the F-in Fence. The mother then comes over all idiotic and starts screaming about all manner of crap. Then proceeds to make threats against me and my wife. Death Threats. It's been over an hour and a half. Good thing that this woman didn't fucking shoot me. I'd be dead right now.

Mr. Beck, the Fabian Society that you occasionally refer to has as its symbol a wolf in sheep's clothing. While you infer that this Fabian Society organization is evil, nothing in the way of a symbology could better describe you, your organization Mercury (god of traders and THIEVES), and the message you deliver each and every day. I've listened to your "programming" ever since the elites found your drunken ass in a gutter, gave you an industrial strength deep cleaning, started writing goody two shoes books for you and sat your bug-eyed fat-ass behind a microphone complete with a script calling for race wars in America and genocide in the Middle-East. Earlier this year, after Comedy Central altered an episode of "South Park" that had prompted threats because of the way it depicted Islam's prophet Muhammad, Seattle cartoonist Molly Norris proposed an "Everybody Draw Muhammad Day." The idea was, as she put it, to stand up for the 1st Amendment and "water down the pool of targets" for extremists. The proposal got Norris targeted for assassination by radical Yemeni American cleric Anwar Awlaki, who has been linked to the attempted Christmas Day bombing of a Northwest Airlines flight and also to several of the 9/11 hijackers. This month, after warnings from the FBI, Norris went into hiding. The Seattle ...

For most of the life of America, and when it grew fastest, government spent just a few hundred dollars per person. Today, the federal government alone spends $10,000. Politicians talk about cuts, but the cuts rarely happen. The political class always needs more. I see the pressure. All day, Congress listens to people who say they need and deserve help. The cost of any one program per taxpayer is small, but the benefits are concentrated on well-organized interest groups. It's tough for a weak politician to say no. But maybe things are changing. Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), believes that "more and more people in America are beginning to wake up to the fact that this thing is coming ...

What a blown opportunity! Glenn Beck gathered thousands of people at the Lincoln Memorial on Saturday to urge a restoration of American honor — but not once did he mention the most egregious assault on America’s honor: militarism. It would have been a perfect time to call for dismantling the American empire, ending the bloody occupations and covert wars in Muslim lands, and terminating the gross violations of the rights of Americans and foreigners alike. Under the guise of the “war on terror” those things have stained this country’s reputation — perhaps beyond repair. Yet judging by the speeches at Beck’s rally, you would never know they were happening. ...
